Hi, guys! Just found the podcast and wanted to congratulate you for all the good theories. Regarding Caudicus talking about the Chandrian and Lackless so lightly, it's probably because he is just part of the 'human' Amyr so the fake ones...They have nothing to do with Selitos Amyr, whose purpose was to fight the Chandrian and probably the descendants of Jax (The original Luck Less?)

Thanks! Possibly, but I’d find it hard to believe that Selitos would allow humans to go around claiming to be Amyr and having no influence over it. Lorren seems more along what a member of a super secret society would be acting like.

I always assumed Baron Jakis was behind Caudicus. Trying to thin the number of royals in front of him while preventing an heir.

It’s possible and certainly something their family would do, but it seems like a step down for Caudicus. The Maer has so much power and money and holds him in high esteem, so the reward would have to be very high for him to turn on Alveron. Roderic has plenty to offer, and so do groups like the Amyr, but I’m not sure what that family could supply. It’s a possibility though. Just would take a very clever bit of writing to make it make sense for him to take such a crazy risk given how far back they are from becoming king.

Just before kvoth arrives at the Myers court, members of the royal family are attacked by pirates associated with the Pakistan family, and its stated in the second book that they were much closer to the throne. I believe that's good foreshadowing. Plus the amateur hour nature of Claudius, it fits with the mo of when they sent a hitman after kvoth in imray.

Yeah I’d agree they’d do it, and I certainly think they are trying to move up the ranks. I’m just not sure what would be in it for Caudicus. They have nothing to offer that the Maer couldn’t easily outbid. Whereas the Amyr or Roderic could offer things that Alveron couldn’t match. Still, it’s possible they are to blame even if the why doesn’t make sense from Caudicus’ side of the equation yet. A big problem with that theory though is they caught Caudicus and if he was hired by that family Alveron would have no reason to keep that a secret. He could expose them and have them eliminated without any comeuppance. So it’d take a good bit of writing to make it work. Possible, Iniust don’t see it at this moment.

Maybe Caudicus is working for Braden/Cinder? Not sure why exactly but he is also nearby.. perhaps that’s why the blue flame is present as well

Cadicus is a tool been used either by the amyr cuz he has the resources to find them n that's what kvothe wants , u remember stick by the maer n he will lead u to their door so he needs to be silenced n he was a fan boy of them also 2. Roderic doesn't want him near the throne n doing anything to end him 3. One of the chapters cadicus said he as met with ambrose dad also n since he wants to be the one also on the throne y cant he end the maer also , just like the surthern family been killed at sea

If the Amyr didn't want a Lackless heir, why wouldn't they just go after Meluan? We're told that she has two dozen suitors, so are the Amyr going to whack them all? And why only now? I don't buy that it would be because of the poem or a Lackless heir. But we know Alveron looked into the Amyr in his youth, so it's possible there's a different connection there. It could even have been Meluan who arranged it, in order to make Alveron desperate. She wasn't getting any younger, and if Alveron had been healthy, he could have stayed single for another 20 years. Kvothe even says "Everyone sees you as the worlds first bachelor", so he clearly had a reputation for staying single. So maybe Meluan decided to light a fire under his ass, being careful to not kill him. But that also wouldn't explain what motivated Caudicus to do the deed. On that point I think you're right; it would have to be either Roderick or the Amyr. Those are the only factions we know are stronger than Alveron. This was a fun episode!

I don’t think Meluan would work as Alveron was about to die had Kvothe not intervened. He nearly died, anyways. Plus, they caught Caudicus and seemingly know why he did it after torturing him, so that rules her out. Amyr, Roderic, or Chandrian seem to be the most likely suspects given the nature of the story left to tell.

@@kingkillerpodcast8559 Hey man, even if Caudicus spilled the beans, Alveron still needs an heir. He might be like "Yeah you tried to kill me, but bear me sons and we're square". He's a practical man! It was mostly just for fun, just because it was a theory I came up with it on the spot haha.

Don't candles turn blue when Chandrian are around? Could Caudicus really be a Chandrian and Kvothe dismissed it as a parlor trick?

Blue flame is the sign of Cyphus. They each have individual signs, so he’d be the only one who would cause a flame to turn blue. But we also don’t know how adept they are at concealing their signs. Seems like they’d have to be up to a point as otherwise they’d not be able to pass in human society which we know they do.

You think maybe the maer hired the bandits do steal the tax to create civil war while also getting the money to fund his army?
@kingkillerpodcast8559
@kingkillerpodcast8559 2 месяца назад
If he hadn’t sent a competent team out to find them, I’d consider it. He’s certainly shrewd enough to do something like that, but he sent out legit pros to hunt them down which doesn’t make sense if they are working for you. Plus it’s causing friction with his vassals as they are getting squeezed on taxes they already paid. I’m not sure how eager they’d be to join his war after he just robbed them to pay for it. He could’ve just went to them with promises of land upon plunder and said that the money they’d typically pay in taxes would go to the war cost. That way his vassals are in it, willingly are paying into it, don’t feel cheated and tricked, and the whole charade wouldn’t be needed.

@@kingkillerpodcast8559 I like the way you look at it. It’s so hard to say with how little we know of the politics of the outside world

Yeah, and Rothfuss can write nearly anything in book 3 that completely shifts how we view any particular scene. It’s hard to predict a lot of the scenes where we’re speculating about characters, such as Roderic, that we haven’t met yet.

What do you think of that man Kvothe meets when he is going to recover his book from Loren? I think he was also a red headed man who was of the Ruh
@kingkillerpodcast8559
@kingkillerpodcast8559 2 месяца назад
He’s not of the Ruh, he just knows their customs. Possibly spent time with the Ruh or something along those lines. He’s also Cealdish but it doesn’t mention his hair color. Cealdish are typically associated with being darker skinned so it’s unlikely he has red hair. Probably would’ve been mentioned if he did. I think he likely is an indication that Lorren is pruning libraries around the world of pertinent information. He’d be a pretty powerful guy to just be sent collecting rare books for the University. So I think he’s likely trying to eliminate knowledge of something. I’d put my money on that being the Amyr.
