Kings Canyon 10’22 - North Lake to South Lake Loop

This was an 8 day 7 night backpack trip into the beautiful Kings Canyon NP from North Lake to South Lake with some off trailing thru Humphreys Basin with my buddies Gregg & John. Highlights were Piute Pass, Humphreys Basin, French Canyon, Evolution Basin, Muir Pass, Ducy Basin, Bishops Pass and all the high alpine lakes! What a great route with beautiful scenery and lots of fishing/catching! Yew!

Good route. It's very similar to what I have been kicking around in my head. There are a few lakes I would probably try to include in this route ;)

French Canyon is one of my favorite areas in the Sierra. I camped in the meadow under pilot knob a few years back during full moon and the night view was spectacular.

French Canyon was a highlight! Hell most of Humphreys basin was a highlight. We are gonna do some more off trail just to the north of French Canyon. Beautiful area…

I did this loop two months ago. There was still some snow in some higher elevations, and of course the bridge was still out over the San Juaquin River (south portion). Great scenario and I met lots of friendly thru hikers, plus the rangers checking the permit were friendly and professional.

Glad you had a great trip! We were also in the Sierra about the same time doing what we are calling the SEKI Traverse. Love both the Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP’s. Lots of snow, downfall and route finding both on and off trail… A lot more Rangers these days due to the high volume of Backpackers. Our general experience with them is very positive. Sadly there are assholes in the back country that complain about the rangers. Just follow the rules and all is good!

Every time I think I've just watched a video with the best scenery ever, along comes one that totally blows me away! This trip was amazing, the scenery was breathtaking, my favourite scenes are the rocky paths, beautiful cream coloured rocks, small fir trees, rivers, waterfalls, wonderful lakes, and a bonus this time, the Aspens in that beautiful deep yellow shade, honestly I have just watched this twice and loved every single second. Thank you!
