It’s a great technique I stumbled on by accident. I’d always hated how off I sounded at first trying to hit, for instance, that first croon by Usher in “U Got it Bad”. In my frustration, I eventually realized that it’s easier to hit high notes accurately by kinda laddering up it beforehand with lower notes. Priming as you say.
Thats a lack of confidence. But these guys are self taught and that is huge, but, being tutored has its benefits and confidence in where that note can be found mentally and physically comes from training. If you do like that kind of thing however, check out gillian welch live. She checks every song with a funny weird hum a second before she starts like its her ocd or something.
They nailed this one. As great as they are as songwriters and in the studio. It's a rare show that is done well. Many fits, many walkoffs, drunk nights, etc.
I was at the end of the road gig in Dublin 1984, and 40 years on im going to Belfast in 2 weeks time for what will probably the last quo live gigs ever seen, I've been on the quo train all my life, i honestly can't count the amount of gigs I've been to altogether, but to hear the best rock music ever played by whatever line up will be sadly missed
