Beautiful country. Wonderful expedition. Some hairy spots. Lots of trail erosion. Enjoyed the video. I love the outdoors. I've been a licensed outdoor guide (NY & TN) for over 30 years (work trees on the side) specializing in Fly Fishing and Upland Bird Hunting (Adventure Guide Service). I've had many adventures hiking & guiding in the Adirondack Mts. Fly Fishing mountain streams for brookies. I liked the short shot of the ptarmigan running the rocks. You have a love of the outdoors....👍.

Nearly 7,000 ft. Reg ...with lots of gear. Out of breath just watching! Hope you had enough water overnight on the summit. Sketchy decent too, with lots of loose gravel. 😳 Smart to camp rather than even a partial decend in darkness. Thanks for taking us along! 👍

Holy moly... single walking up that high got scary as the sun went down. Absolutely beautiful trees/rocks and sky. And the flowing water is a wonderful sound. The only thing missing in this video is bare feet in the water or on the ice. But to make it to the summit by sundown, no time for lollygagging...👍 A truly glorious experience. Descending that tiny trail looks like a rough hike. Thanks for bringing fear, awe and wonderment to my tiny phone screen in the safety of my shack in the hollow. 💚

Many people who do something for a living will avoid similar environment when on free time. It's a pretty clear sign that you're in the right kind of job when free time means going back to places that look a lot like the office. In the Rockies, at this time of year it's not uncommon to find bears well above the treeline, looking for moth larvae. I've seen grizzlies twice, far above the treeline. I wonder if the same thing happens with black bears on the island. Cool to see a ptarmigan. I loved climbing alone.
@Recoates

Thats interesting about the Grizzlies Dave. I had a black bear trying to get in our tent at 1am a couple years ago. Wasn't nice, and I haven't quite got over it yet

Reg, very cool vid of a very fun looking hike. You are quite the nature hound between the treework and hiking in the woods and mountains. Does it amaze you that so much logging has occurred on Vancouver Isle yet there are still awesome, huge spots like this spot? The Isle must be truly giant.
@Recoates
@Recoates 2 года назад
This area in view is mostly provincial park....one of the oldest in the country I believe. Thats why its in tact. Im more amazed in the fact that the remaining old growth rainforest ecosystems that still exist on the island continues to be systematically eradicated, by order of the government and its corporate allies. All the while promoting and celebrating their combatting climate change by creating more 'cycle lanes'....and banning plastic bags etc ! The level of government and media hypocrisy here is like nowhere else ive ever lived. At least in the mountains, and the backcountry you generally meet good people, who appreciate whats real.

@@Recoates Wow, great reply Reg. I wish it wasn't so spot on. I see a faller on YT posting weekly about mostly massive old growth he's falling regularly somewhere in BC. It's hard to believe that is going on in 2022, short term gain for long term troubles

Stunning scenery but no place to camp. More a place to uncomfortably bivvi. Some of my best times in the fells, have been bivviing on rocky outcrops, so I could climb to the fading light or start before sunrise. Thank you for sharing some of your trip. Summiting always takes longer than imagined but getting down safely, can often take longer. 40LBs - needs a bit of slimming down me thinks. But it’s your pack, you take what you need.
@Recoates
@Recoates 2 года назад
It definitely needs slimming down. The tent was redundant for starters. But I had initially planned to camp around half way, then summit the next morning. But that plan changed

@@Recoates Nice no wonder the heavier breathing... takes some doing with all that gear on👍. I guess you have to appreciate the guys in grand tours riding at over 2000m🥵.... not that your keen on cyclists😂 buy yeah wouldn't mind a spin round the alps or even Canada mountain climbs for the stunning scenery👌. Best I've got is the Cat n fiddle/peak😂
@Recoates
@Recoates 2 года назад
@@Dolmar-Rick carrying the weight is a massive handicap.....both up and down for different reasons. Id have probably saved 2 hours without it on the way up. But then Id have had to try and rush down before night time. Its not a place you want to get lost in the dark. I keep making the same mistake....packing extra gear that I just dont need. I have to plan better from now on.

Five-hour hike, no campsite in view, damn bloodsucking mosquitos everywhere, steep climbing, geez... Louise, you need a good topographical map of the area, and a good compass, then you would know exactly what is what and where it is.
@Recoates
@Recoates 2 года назад
Maybe I should have explained the objectives. I picked that mountain because it was steep, demanding and isolated. I didn't need a map or compass because I had read up on it beforehand and could see which way to go. And I certainly didn't want to be in a campsite surrounded by other campers. As it turned out I had the summit all to myself for 12 hours. It couldn't have worked out better. EDIT: probably took me more like 7-8 hours each way.
