Same type of loader they used in Enniscorthy for loading the ballast trains. I used to love hearing the ballast being loaded we'd head down to see who was driving, if it was one of the nice lads you'd spend the day with them in the cab.

The 121's always had that distinctive thunk thunk thunk when idling that the others didn't have you'd know them a mile away.

128 and 129 together, nice, you have to love that GM sound. It must have used an awful amount of diesel with all that stopping at the crossing gates.

Brilliant footage!! Thanks so much for sharing this, always great to see anything of the North Meath line, this is a treasure trove. Shame that other than the gypsum this line was a bit useless seeing as it didn't really serve any population bases (a nice mile-long walk up the hill to Kingscourt town from the station). Wasn't it meant to go on to Clones or something? Anyone know anything about the experiment running timber from here in 1994, there's a great video of it here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-naWq9zUYCZA.html

That's right, supposed to have been a main line route between Dublin-Belfast via Navan, Carrickmacross, Armagh, only the Dublin-Navan section was built to main line standard, with the Kingscourt section less so.

Is the line still in use?

Unfortunately the gypsum traffic ceased in October 2001 and the last ever train (weed sprayer) ran the following year. Navan-Drogeda remains at present for Tara Mines traffic. Video of last Kingscourt train: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y6R46dujSZ4.html
