After your previous demo I bought the Fryette power station and could not be happier. It excels at everything it does and quickly became a central piece of gear to me. Now it will soon be my time on Kingsley waitlist and I can‘t wait. Thanks for the nice demo and your great work!

Just a stellar demo by an amazing builder and player! I hear differences in these two amp platforms but they are minimal at best. Being a tube amp cork sniffer myself, my mind leans to the Freyette but i cant discount how fantastic the Duncan sounds! To me, this is a toss up. Love the tube power section and flexibility of the Freyette but the Duncan sounds killer and is stereo! Just love this demo!!!! Thank you so much!

awesome demo, playing and sound. Great pedals en great poweramps too. It would be great if you make a clean tube poweramp with enough clean headroom for your pedals and other preamppedals. A Kingsley poweramp in a pedal or (a complete tube amp in a pedal...preamp and poweramp as a small amp you can put on a board. But enough clean headroom for humbuckers is important . Pedal amps are hip these days (bluguitar hotone etc) but a copmplete tube pre and poweramp in a pedal or a snall unit you can put on a cab...does it excist? Around 50 watt? Or swichable wattage? And it would be great that you cab replace the tubes yourself when day are going to sound bad (after hours of use like in a normal tube amp, without the hassle of rebiasing. So that everyone cab change the tubes themselves. A lot of ideas...I can't make it myself , otherwise I did. But I know you can;) And I know it would be a very good quality unit.

This is mental. Some of the best tone i've ever heard. Who needs 'regular' amps anymore? What have you done, man?! Please increase your production capacity so i don't have to wait, and let me know what pickups are in that guitar (who knew i 'needed' a 335?), so i have no excuses when i fail to sound/play as brilliantly.

Well, you've just made my week. I feel truly honored to actually be communicating with you! Thank you, ever so much, for the information. I've just been playing some of your other videos, and my god - it's rare when something comes along and just changes your mindset. I had never had any interest in a 335, and now i 'need' one. Your blues/rock tone? Wasn't my thing before, but now i feel compelled to dedicate myself toward that style of playing in sound.... I'm not going to get there, i know. I've been mostly messing around with parts of van halen songs for 30 years-off and on. I'm newly inspired in a different direction. Thank you. Your playing is simply beautiful....

Ha! Nooooo. I'm not THAT ambitious. I'll just be satisfied to be able to fumble through a few similar riffs now and then, but with those glorious tones. I'm now digesting as many of your videos as possible, to figure out how to get into 'the ballpark.' Hey - watching the ThatPedalShow video (again), and i know you've studied at the highest levels, but do you have a recommendation for a 'home course' for the type of playing you do? I know there aren't any shortcuts. I've had guitars for a long time and never took things seriously as i was also messing around with synthesizers and such. But, now i'm obsessed with learning 'blues/classic rock soloing' and i've got intimidation and a 35 year old mental block re: lead/scales/theory to deal with.

The juggler OD sounds so good. Thinking of picking one up. Realistically with my current setup I'd be running it into either a Roland JC 77 or a Fender Custom 68 vibrolux. Any thoughts on whether running the juggler pre amp in front of a typical amp would be a bad idea?

So a light has just flicked on in my brain. I have the Page and the Harlot and I have been running the Harlot into the Page. Whilst it sounds great, it’s a bit edgy for me. I have arranged my pedals for higher gain stuff first and have been using the page for a tone shaper/treble boost. I’m going to break that setup and put the Harlot after the Page and use the page as a boost for the harlot. It can still sit after everything else and still act as a boost for them because it does it so well. I can then lock those two in for rhythm and lead setups.

They both sound great, but would you have a preference over which one feels better? The gear that's coming out these days from modellers, solid state power amps etc, is amazing, and they sound really, really good. So for me, the decision to choose one product over another, doesn't come down so much to the tones I can coax from the product, but rather a case of which product feels better under my fingers. It atleast is starting to get a big say in the matter

The powerstage does have a preamp and there seems to be no way to access the power amp stage only. Am I wrong about that? Simon which do you prefer? Which seems to be the most transparent for use with your pedals. Of course I realize that the power station does have features the powerstage does not but just comparing for this use case which do you prefer?

Thank you for this demonstration. I have been looking into both of these power amps for quite some time. I understand that there is some bias when describing tone, but can you weigh in on some of the characteristics of each you hear in the room? Are there any trade-offs, in your opinion, going with one or the other? What is your personal preference sonically with these devices? Thanks again.
@PPIMV
@PPIMV 6 лет назад
The Seymour Duncan Power Stage starts off with a darker response. It has the 3-band EQ which is nice...but it can't get the open, airy presence of the Fryette. On the other hand, with a single greenback I would have liked to have been able to actually roll the presence back a bit on the Fryette (I mostly ran the presence at zero). The SD does sound good and with a nice tube preamp you still get a great foundation tone for adding pedals. However, I am of course a bit biased towards tube amps - especially as they are turned up a bit. For tone I would still take the Fryette - it just feels more "alive". Of course the SD has other advantages, like lots of power, small size, stereo operation etc (won't get in to the dummy load function of the Fryette).I will also mention that I have gigged with the SD and was quite happy...

not sure if people have been modding their PS2s, but in theory you could. You could try a conjunctive filter or a Zobel filter on the output perhaps....or reduce negative feedback and add a cut control...many option...

Keep watching this demo in anticipation of the arrival my Constable, Crucible and Harlot w/Gain Mode Switch. In the interim I've been enjoying the clean platform of a Juggler along with a Page. Simon- curious where the Juggler Clean and OD channel mode switches are set? I don't think you mention it in the video and I can't quite make it out in the video. Any guidance is appreciated.
@PPIMV
@PPIMV 6 лет назад
Hi Matt...The mode switches were probably both in mode 1, as the Juggler was going into a power amp rather than the front of an amp. Mode 1 gives the brightest response from both clean and OD channels. Sometimes I set the OD mode to 2 for a little extra mid fatness for OD.

Another wonderfully helpful video; thanks Simon. In the previous 2014 Constable demo you placed the Constable in front of the Page. Curious why you did not do the same in this video, although I may have answered my own question. Looking forward to receiving my Constable. Any updates on the 1-watt amp?
@PPIMV
@PPIMV 6 лет назад
If the Constable is being used as a preamp to drive a power amp (as it is here) , then the Page will not work very well after it - the Page will tend to sound dark. In the earlier video you are referring to, when I run the Constable into the Page, the output then goes into the front of an amp, which adds the top end we expect to hear....the Page sort of acts as a stand in for the power amp and allows you to then run into the front of an amp. On the other hand, the Page DS will work after the Constable into a power amp, as the Page DS is designed primarily as a post preamp drive pedal (it is an exception in this regard - all of my other drive pedals are designed to go before the preamp...as are pretty much all drive pedals in general). I'll have to explain more about this in a future video... The 1W has been on the back burner as I have been so busy...however, it is coming in a few months (about all I can say for now)...

It's a pine 2 x 12 w/ 25W reissue greenbacks...it's actually an old '60s Fender cab (Showman maybe?) that was so beat up that pretty much all the tolex had come off. I sanded it down a bit and replaced the baffle (that was not original anyway when I got it) and it is a good sounding open back 2 x 12.

@paulmapp8306
@paulmapp8306 3 года назад
@@duanewilson3941 not really. The Fryette has low and high resonance peaks which is a result of the output transformer interacting with the speaker. The Semour being Solid State doesnt have an output transformer so doesnt have those interactions. This is why the Fryette has more sparkle and a little more depth. Its not really because its amplifying with valves, just that vales use that OP transformer THATS the difference. for those interested, this is what makes the Seymore a better amp for MODELLERS - particularly the Axe-FX as they model that OP transformer interaction. Using the Fryette means you get it twice, once modelled and once real (making it overly thumpy and brittle sounding) unless you disable it (which you can do) - but then you cant go to direct to desk realistically as you dont have those modelled interactions with the cab ir. HOWEVER for more traditional pre-amps, and these pedals (or indeed modellers that dont model the OP transformer characteristics) that DONT have OP transformer modelling (as there just Pres) then the Fryette is the more natural/better option and Makes you cab come alive. Each has its place.
