Great build, Tony, fond memories of a visit to the flicks, in the 60s .usually 2 films ,A and B, the usherette with her torch showing you to your seat ,and halfway through ,the same girl with her ice cream stand, and Kiora Orange juice . Posh cinemas had a doorman to open the doors for you in red coat and top hat ,happy days
Hi Colin. love your comment. i forgot about the Kiora orange juice, oh and those small tubs of ice cream. what a treat it was to go the flicks. thanks again my friend. cheer's for now Tony.
Morning Tony, its amazing isn't it, when you think, "I'll just knock up a few buildings won't take long" now your into a major building program. Not that I'm complaining, I enjoy following your progress and watching the scene build. The Odeon was a big part of my young life, Saturday morning pictures was a must, 6d to get in and we had singing, then a cartoon, followed by a serial, and the main feature film. I remember watching Tarzan films, loads of cowboy, and war films. And yes the building looked exactly like that. We never called it a cinema to us it was going to the Pictures. Great build Tony love the detail and extra relive you bring to the models it really helps bring them to life. Great tips on how to achieve columns an the rounded parts. Fantastic looking building, Casablanca is a great choice, Ingrid Bergman was beautiful we were all in love with her. Speak soon Tony thanks for your best wishes for Anne, we are slowly getting there now. Take care both, love from Devon, Eddy and Anne xx
good morning Eddy. Those were the days. i think i have gone to the pictures more now than i have ever done as a kid. Back in the 80s was when i have the money to go more often. funny i proposed to Mrs T after a movie had just finished. Tarzan of Greystoke, i think it was called. blimey that was 38 years ago. where has the time gone. i am glad that Anne is on the mend. take care and look after yourselves. best wish's Tony & Laura. P.s Thank you for the trip down memory.
It's a mad mad world!!!! TNE the place to come for planning execution and design... Simply the best... It's also the the best modelling work on RU-vid.. in my opinion!!!
Another brilliant kit, but the modifications snd personal touches are what make it stand out. In this case, there are also the little nuances to make it a relief and fitting it- takes a ood eye and foresight there. Cheers to another cool addition!
hello Anthony. i have been watching your daily advent calendars, they are so cool. i think i may have said this before. no one is doing these in OO. or well its there loss. its great to hear from you, and thank you kindly for commenting. all the best Tony.
Good morning Roy. thank you for commenting. it was a tricky kit to do, and to make look right, as well as keeping to the limits of the build, thanks again my friend. And very happy new year to you and your family. all the best Tony.
We used to go to the ABC Saturday club in my home town Warrington this was in the 60's :-). In the 80's it became Mr Smiths and was on T.V with Pete Waterman hosting. Like these kits the cinema looks great the whole back drop is looking great.
Hi Stephen, so many of these picture houses have now gone. most were turned into bingo halls. the new complex's dont have the style or panache as the older buildings. many thanks for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
Yes most have gone The Old ABC cinema eventually burned down after Mr Smiths closed. Every time I go back home to Warrington to visit family it breaks my heart to see the town these days. We live in France these days @@TONYNORTHEASTERN
Hi Tony 👍 the Odeon looks great my friend. Thanks for the tip on painting the window frames from the inside. I’ve always struggled with that. Keep safe and well my friend Andy
Hey there Tony. I’m late to the party again. Great looking building and a fine job you did building it too, mara. I’m disappointed that Royal Mail have not delivered your parcel yet. Hopefully it will arrive on Monday. Best, Jason.
Hello Jason Mate. your never late. you always arrive on time, Your time. lol. Not to worry about the parcel it will get here when it wants to get here. its always good to Here from you. take care my friend. cheer's for now Tony.
This one was a bit more of a challenge. hence why we had a long video. 30mins was cut just to try and keep it short. thanks again for commenting. cheer's Tony.
Hi Tony, another great conversion and your problem solving is amazing. Love the art deco feel of the curved walls and the scribing of the columns adds that extra tough. Looking forward to when you 'play it again' Cheers, Dave.
Hi Tony, for some reason I missed the poll but never mind I would have chosen Casablanca. Going to the pictures was an institution when I was a little boy. With only two television channels (BBC and ITV) - that's assuming your tv set could pick up both of them - and neither of them were on the air for 24 hours Thursday nights were the nights we all looked forward to. Dad got paid on Thursdays so it was off to the 'pictures' that night. We had an Odeon, a Gaumont, a Black Prince, Majestic and the one we went to, the ABC. Ingrid Bergman was the woman star in Casablanca. If you are looking for gap filler buildings where detail is not too important you might try Wordsworth Model Railways. The buildings are all free to download and some of their latest models are quite good considering they are free. I'm sure with your skills you'd soon be able to turn them into something good. Thanks Tony.
Hi Alfie. i have checked the website for Wordsworth Models. i may take you up on that idea. I do remember only having two channels. and having to put 10p into the TV. to keep it going. Granada Tv rentals i think it was. boy haven't times changed. Casablanca did win, so no need to worry on that account. thanks again for commenting, its always great to hear from you. cheer's for now Tony.
Good morning Tony I can still remember our local odeon looking just like the kit but it got pulled down in the early 70s. I've been thinking my friend you once said you had a space where you were thinking of putting a dairy you could build a sub bus garage.
Good morning Steve my friend. its a shame our Odeon was the same, that got pulled down and a Asda built on its very foundations. as for the bus garage there is plans to build either that or a fire station. but that will have to wait a while, as you i am racing to get Jarrow road out of the way. so i can move onto Little Haven. the next big thing. take care my friend. and the bus was a lovely gesture we will speak soon. all the best Tony
Hi Tony, I do love when you make your own buildings but I must say, this is a fantastic looking kit! 😎 Just showed what you have done with it to Clair and, like me, it reminded us of those lovely old cinemas that were perhaps past their best but oozed character in a sharp contrast to today’s fairly formulaic and homogeneous boxes which in comparison are, shall we say, a bit soulless. I don’t know if it is because there isn’t such a big deal about going these days because it is so easy to watch films in other ways now, but the atmosphere is definitely not what I remember it being even 20 or 25 years ago🤷🏻♂️ I really like the embellishments you have made too, and the corner stones always improve the stature of a building, like a well framed picture! You might say the kit has ‘Tonyfied’ which is a good thing! 😎 Have a great weekend mate…mayo take the missus to the pictures? 😜👍🍻🍀
Hi Tim, interesting comment. Cinemas did look iconic back in the day. not like the cinema complex's that we have now. the old ones were full of character and lushly fitted out. thanks again for commenting. all the best Tony.
"Of all of the gin joints of the world, she would have to come in to mine." Great built, Tony. It seems that you and Kingsway, " could be the start of a most wonderful relationship." An interesting note that before they were to release the movie, General Eisenhower & US Army landed at Casabanca. They decided against changing the movie. Bill from California
Hi Bill, interesting comment. i am glad that they didn't change the movie, as its a classic. thanks again for commenting. have a great weekend. cheer's Tony
Hi James. if i had the space i would have built like the instructions that is for sure, but as always with some tweaks of my own. thanks again for commenting my friend. cheer's for now Tony.
`Play it again Sam`, well done Tony another enjoyable and interesting build. Great approach on adapting the kit to fit your needs, down the edges I thought you might fit drain pipes to hide the slight mis-alignment but the pillars look spot on. Many thanks for sharing looking forward to your next build. Stay safe regards Barry..👍👍😄😄😄😄
Hi Tony, another lovely kit, you’ve done an excellent job in adapting it to fit the space you have. I was gutted to find that Kingsway don’t really do N Gauge models anymore although there are a few I can download, one of which I have and will have a go at soon. I do find it so absorbing watching people build kits and I’ll look forward to watching your next one. Cheers mate, John
Hi John. i thought they did N gauge as well as OO. I am sure there are others out there making kits for N gauge. Pub building next, so i might see you down there. until then all the best Tony.
Hi Tony, well that turned out much better than I expected given an almost white building. The S curving of the walls looks brilliant, so different; you just had enough depth to pull it off, so well done. Just shows what you can do when your back is quite literally up against the wall with little room to maneuver! A great advert for Kingsway Models too. All the best Stephen
Hi Stephen. it was a bit touch and go on whether the curing of the walls was going to work. i think i was lucky with this modification. thanks again for commenting my friend. Cheer's Tony.
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN Hi Tony, your comment made me think you are a bit like the SAS, but of railway modelling, should have the motto "Who dares wins" ... and you did! All the best Stephen
Hi Tony. I have always wanted to do this kit, but I don't have the space in my town scene for it, but I was nice to see it being built for yourself. Thanks. Regards Alan :o)
Hi Alan, it can be modified to reduce the width and even the depth as you have seen. but we all have our space limits. maybe a paper back might do the trick. Take care my friend. cheer's Tony
Nice build Tony. When it got to fitting the front wall I was sitting here saying to myself, curve the walls Tony!! Though and behold you did exactly that and what an impressive cinema you’ve built.
You and me both! Paul. it was a bit of tricky situation with fitting the front facia. but in the end it work out a treat. only just mind. take care. have a great weekend. Tony
Very nice work Tony! I have to say I'm not sure about these Kingsway kits. I think this particular building looks flat as there's no relief to the stonework proper. With the other larger one I believe you scribed the corners and fitted cornices etc. Then painted it all. This adds depth and indeed - realism. You might look into having some buildings laser cut to your specifications, as kits for you to assemble I mean. Cheers, Joachim
Hi Joachim, i agree with you. but at the end of the day these kits will be rarely seen. as you will see once we come to the end of this series. but yes better details low relief may have to be Scratch built when we eventually get round to doing Newhasle. thanks again for your thoughts and comments. cheer's for now Tony.
Thanks Tony, a really good video. Adapting kits takes a lot of careful thought. I'm quite keen to try it. The conversion to curved side " panels" adds to that art deco design. All the best.
Good evening Peter. I like your thoughts, but it is true a lot thought has to be taken when adapting kits for how you want them to look. thanks again for commenting. and good luck with your conversions. cheer's for now Tony.
Another excellent video, Sir Tony. Sorry but I voted for Casablanca too. You know its makes sense, I'm sure you'll eventually agree. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life.😂 The cinema looks excellent and your modifications made it look even better. I look forward to the pub and surely a chippy near the pub n pictures is a must. Thank you for sharing. Here's Looking at You kid.
Hi Tony, lounging on the sofa as I watch you build the cinema and what a terrific looking building it is. I am surprised at the results of your poll, I would have thought all those young people leaving London to head to sunnier climes would provide some escapism from the drizzly South Shield’s beach. I for one really enjoyed that film. Is that 2mm card you are using for the construction? As I told you I have some photos of the Woolworth Store which I plan on using for my scratch build attempt. What would be great is if you could give me a couple of dimensions of those main doors: height and width plus the set back and angle from the front (angle) if you know what I mean. I am contemplating using Plastikard sheets for the construction but have not made a decision yet. Of course there was. an Odeon Cinema near us and friends and I skipped school to go watch Lawrence of Arabia! Epic. Great build stony and those columns look so authentic. Cheers Charlie
Hello Charlie, Scratch building a full department store should be fun. will you be posting videos up, as i would love to see how you tackle the building. thanks again for commenting. cheer's for now Tony.
Will Kingsway Cinema be showing any independent films, such as '' The Girl on the train? '', based on a Northern Kitchen Sink Dram, written around the Mid 1960's, set in the cont
Set in the backdrop of the Swinging Sixties, about a young woman, who falls pregnant and has to escape from the hypocrisy of a Provincial Northern Industrial Scared Town, on a cold and rainy winter afternoon, and down to the bright light of London, on the Diesel Express? The film has recently been reviewed by Kirtsy Lang on News Night Arts, on BBC2, Review. It has also received positive claims discussed from a post-feminist perspective, in the Guardian. Hopefully, it will subsequently also be accessible on BBC I Player, and highlight the misogyny still experienced by woman in society, despite the social and legal reforms since it was origionally made
To be honest i haven't, but i will check out their website. thank you for the tip, i will definitely follow up on your idea. thanks again for commenting cheer's for now Tony.
Man in the white suite!!! Alex Guinness. great film!!! he Man in the White Suit is perhaps the most cynical, and certainly the most complex, of the Ealing comedies. It was Alexander Mackendrick's second film as director, following the surprise success of Whisky Galore! (1949), and the first of two films with Alec Guinness. Guinness plays Sidney Stratton, mild-mannered but single-minded inventor, whose discovery - an unbreakable, dirt-repelling fabric - threatens an entire industry with ruin. It is arguably the best of Guinness's string of fine performances for the studio.
Good morning James. interesting as i have not seen any of those movies, i do like Alex Guinness, especially his role in the Lady Killers with peter sellers. brilliant film. thanks again for commenting. all the best Tony.
