I have not seen many Friedkin films, but I love Sorcerer. I found it by way of being a fan of Tangerine Dream, especially their 1970s output. The soundtrack sleeve has the menacing truck on the rope bridge in a storm. I had no idea what the movie was about, but that cover along with the title Sorcerer, and the brooding music painted a wild picture. I had to get over that finally watching the film years later, but I still liked the film. When I found it was a remake of the French film, The Wages Of Fear, I had to pick that one up too. Both are great, but Sorcerer really makes you feel the humidity and sweat like it comes out of the screen.
Yes, I completely agree with your thoughts on Sorcerer. It is a true masterpiece and one of my top favorites. For Friedkin, I love The French Connection, The Exorcist, and To Live And Die In LA which are all excellent in my humble opinion. There is a documentary also called Friedkin Uncut (streaming on Amazon) which is very good too. Thanks for commenting and hope you have a great rest of the week.
Hi Dave. With Kino Lorber Blu-Ray releases being region locked, I only pick up their 4K releases (that aren’t already released in the U.K.) but fortunately we have a good number of UK boutique labels here, including Indicator and Arrow as you mentioned. I’m also a big William Friedkin fan. To Live and Die in L.A. is superb and I have that Arrow release with great extras (and a nice booklet). I’d recommend 1978s The Brink’s Job with your man Peter Falk as well as the great Warren Oates. Thanks for recommending ‘Sorcerer’ as I’ve not seen that one. Regards to you both.
Thanks for your comment. The Brink’s Job is on my list especially since Peter Falk is in the film. Let me know what you think of Sorcerer. It’s very dark but I think it’s brilliant and a top favorite for me.
I did this sale too-my first KL order in a few years. Got Le Professional, FX/FX2, Hardcore (which I haven’t seen but heard a lot about), and Bend of the River on blu ray and The Italian Job on 4K.
Fun trivia: the sisters in Bend are played by Julie Adams and Lori Nelson, who respectively played the leading ladies in the first two Creature from the Black Lagoon movies.
Good pickups! I plan on picking up To Live and Die in LA in 4K at some point. I watched it for the first time earlier this year I loved it! Kino is releasing Bad Lieutenant in May and Brokeback Mountain in June so a couple more to add to the collection soon!
Picked up ‘To Live and Die in LA’ on 4K when it was released. 1st time watch - loved it!!. Watched it with the commentary, which is also great, as Friedkin expressed how much he hates censorship in every way. Interesting because I listened to it around the same time as Disney edited ‘The French Connection’
@@CinemaDaveMedia Most of the film I did get were older, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney, and Reefer Madness. Plus Loving Vincent which is a newer one. All pretty good.
Yes, I love Convoy and I have that KL blu. I still haven't listened to the commentary on that one, which should be really interesting based on the craziness behind the scenes.
