I collect physical media and talk about films and TV. I love boutique labels like Criterion, Indicator, Kino Lorber, Warner Archive, Arrow, Radiance, Imprint and others. My videos are about my movie and TV collection, film study and review, unboxing new releases, collection tours, livestreams and much more.
Haven’t watched the whole video yet but did someone mention Mel Gibson’s ‘Payback’ from ‘99? Remake of ‘Point Blank’ with Lee Marvin. Really liked Point Blank but I feel Payback is the better movie
Sorry I missed the show again! I've been busy getting ready to go visit my daughter & family over the next 2 weeks! I forgot until it was over!😢 I will watch the livesteam before we leave for Calgary!
Hello Dave and Jessi! Watched this video after the livestream, love the idea of “Starter Movies” that really hooked you into a particular director’s work. My first and favorite Fellini movie is La Dolce Vita. I’ve watched it several times and have gotten more insight from it each viewing. The plot is terribly meandering but the atmosphere is always intriguing, the characters eccentric and the Nino Rota score is mesmerizing! Love what it has to say about modernism in the Eternal City (Rome) and where the paths of decadence have led society.
Hello and thanks for watching and commenting. We did add "starter movies" to our list of topics so will definitely cover at some point (might even do a video or two on the topic). It's funny how we sometimes to connect to a film/director/actor and then want to watch all the films. My first Aki Kaurismäki was Le Havre (2011) which is later in the filmography but now I'm all in on the director's work and am watching as many Kaurismäki films as I can.
Very glad you picked Sunset Blvd. I want more Wilder (he's my favorite director) in the collection but I especially want a Criterion release of Stalag 17. The Kino 4k is a great disc and I'm glad I have it. If Criterion were to do some new extras, we'd have the best disc ever
Nice. In June, I took advantage of my library getting a stack of blu-rays on sale for 2 for $5 and picked up I think 10 (about half of them upgrades from DVD for me). But my favorite pickup was the giallo film "The Case of the Bloody Iris" from brand-new boutique label Celluloid Dreams.
Wow, great that you picked up some films. I will checkout the Celluloid Dreams label. I'm all over the map with what I'm watching lately but plan to get back to more Aki Kaurismäki films.
Oh that's great, love Shiva Baby. Sounds like I need to subscribe to MUBI also. I still want to get back to the UK someday. Is there a good time to visit?
@@CinemaDaveMedia I think anytime is fine - Spring and summer sees the Uk at its nicest weather wise- we don't get harsh winters now, the last few winters have been mild.
@@letstalkcriterion Thanks for the recommendation. Years ago, I was there in June (business trip) but have always wanted to go back. I stayed in Swindon for a week and did have one day to tour London.
Great question. To clarify, I'm often inspired to be more creative, to make art (music, writing, etc), to learn, and to live my life more fully. Thanks for commenting.
The Barnes and Noble near me has literally never had a movie section! I've lived here for 8 years and had never seen one without movies until this location. Personally breaks my heart as a film buff...
Very enjoyable and relaxing video Dave. I hope that you had a great birthday and well done for grabbing those Criterions on your wishlist. I am ready for The B&N Criterion sale. I just hope my credit card is as well. 😂😂 All the best...
Happy birthday Dave! Loving these vlogs, love the "slice of life" format you've given them. Working my way through the Tales of the Four Seasons box set as well, I've watched the Winter and Spring films so far and they're both amazing. The Summer film is on my list for sometime this week or next, would love your thoughts on those when you get around to them!
Thanks very much and appreciate the feedback and kind words. Good to know you are enjoying the Tales of the Four Seasons set which was at the top of my list to pickup. Will definitely share more thoughts on the set after I watch.
Happy birthday! I have to thank you for recommending In A Lonely Place. I saw it this weekend and loved it! I'll definitely be adding it to my criterion collection soon. Thanks as always for the videos. Keep up the good work. So far I have picked up Rushmore and Take Out.
Happy Birthday. I didn't realize that the sale started before the first, so today I went to the local B&N that has a bit more movies and got all 4Ks: Don't Look Now, Walkabout, Le Cercle Rouge, The Trial and the Hong Kong double feature of Heroic Trio and Executioners.
Thanks very much. Wow, you picked up so many great films. I love the Barnes and Noble sales because there is more time to add a few more films to my collection.
@@CinemaDaveMedia Absolutely. Not every one, but the huge majority of my Criterion collection have come from the 50% off sales. I saw Peeping Tom on BD there too and was very tempted, but I'd kind of prefer to spend the extra money and get the 4K. I will probably make at least one more order either online or at another B&N I meet a friend at.
That was a fun one and glad to see Jessie picking out the best supermarket trolley - I do the same thing, lol. If you’re going to add Tremors to your collection, make sure to pick up the Arrow 4K. It really is a fantastic master which showed off the location beautifully. There’s also some really nice extras. Tremors 2 is also a great release on Arrow in 4K, not quite as good as the first one but still a great addition. Sorry I couldn’t make it to the live stream, hope you had a good one. (I’ll watch the upload later this week). Best wishes to you both.
Thanks and no worries at all about the livestream. Hope you can join us next time. I definitely need to pickup Tremors (that Arrow 4K looks good). Best wishes and hope you have a good week.
They screened Tremors in 35mm at Exhumed Films 24 hr horrorthon this past October. Since I previously only really seen it on cable before, I was shocked at all the swearing, lol. Also, the dad from Family Ties is Michael Gross and that little girl on the pogo stick is the same girl from Jurassic Park
Wow, cool that there was a screening of Tremors in 35mm. First time watch for me and I loved it. Michael Gross was really good in the film. Are any of the sequels good? Didn't look like it but might watch.
@@CinemaDaveMedia at least Tremors 2, but anything after that may test your capacity for Jamie Kennedy or Jon Heder. The 4th installment is an 1880s prequel! And they all feature Steven Keaton, so there's that
The Invisible Man Returns is great, and its early Vincent Price. The original Invisble Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. Hopefully i can go on a trip to Barnes and Noble, its about an hour away from where I live, but i need that Fear and Loathing 4K for sure.
Yes, loving The Invisible Man and other early horror films on the Universal Monsters channel these days. Hope you enjoy the Barnes and Noble Criterion sale.
I absolutely love Being There! Targets is great as well with how casual they portray the shooter. I would highly recommend The Red Shoes (1948). It is one of my all time favorite movies.
I just wanted to add that I watched "Ratatouille" on Disney+! I wish I had that on physical media! It's funny that I just decided to watch it this last week & your topic was Food in Film!
By the way, I live in the Pacific Northwest in British Columbia Canada, so the rain isn't surprising! LOL! Anyway I'm watching your livestream right now!😂
Hello i present these questions here to be answered on your next Livestream as you requested. Please Thanks 1 what was your first movie theater u went to? 2 what are your eight favorite Al Pacino movies? Thanks
I recently watched the movie May December on Netflix. I recommend the movie if you haven’t seen it yet. Natalie Portman is really good as well as Julianne Moore.
Absolutely love Criterion Collection and what they stand for with preservation of movies. So so SOOOOOO so much that would be lost to time if these boutique labels didn't provide these movies. I've been spread thin with different hobbies to put my money, let alone ALL these different boutique labels with o mny obscure, cult classics etc etc. However, I thankfully can get into the sale this year! Here are the ones I'm getting AND separately, ones I recommend! Ordered: Beasts of No Nation Deep Cover Triangle of Sadness Don't Look Now The Grand Budapest Ones I recommend: Beasts of No Nation Seven Samurai The Irishman Until the End or Time The Color of Pomegranates Naked Lunch House
