I think you are ignoring the whole idea that Weinstein was a huge power in Hollywood and Lea was powerless. Her physical attractiveness was her only commodity, as you say, but only something that could be traded for the mere Possibility of getting what she wanted. It is not so much a power as you say, but a kind of desperate edge, fighting among other beautiful actresses for a foothold. And what Lea wanted was a career (and in America, a career is everything: stability, self-esteem, a future, a purpose, an identity, it is sold as a solution to all kinds of problems by rampant capitalism from infancy.) She maybe did have some of the elements of sexual psychology going on as your girlfriend suggests, but surely that was not the majority share of her motivation. Turning him down could mean the end of her career, flat-out, forever. Following him up was at least a chance. She probably did not have this "image" of sex pull her up, but the fear of what she "knows" will happen if she refuses him. This is why Weinstein's behavior is so repugnant -- that he used his position to make or break the careers of so many young women for rape, that he was an immoral gatekeeper. But I do agree with her notes on the bestial image and the shame of having to deal with that when confronted with a baby in reality.

Ik vind het zeker een hele interessante gedachte dat vrouwen ook deels aanranding opzoeken, alleen in het artikel zou juist wel aan Lea Seydoux's verwachtingen worden voldaan zijn, hij greep haar namelijk vast en zij moest hem van zich af duwen en weg gaan om niet verder aangerand te worden. Ook vraag ik mij af wat Kate bedoelt met "zo'n vrouw" die naar een kamer gaat en er weer uit gaat. Ik denk dat dit zeker iets kan zijn wat speelt, maar vind het vreemd om dit idee zo stellig aan "zulke vrouwen" te verbinden. Ik ken uit eigen ervaring namelijk deels het gevoel van het opzoeken, maar ook heel goed het gevoel van het echt niet willen, maar niet weg durven. Bijvoorbeeld wanneer je je mentaal of fysiek niet sterk voelt en iemand je helpt en dan daar meer verwachtingen bij blijkt te hebben. Dan geeft de situatie je een gevoel van schuld dat je meer rekening had moeten houden met het effect dat je lichaam heeft ipv. schuld omdat je ergens blij bent met het effect dat je lichaam heeft. En voel je je dus juist los van je lichaam staan ipv meer verbonden met je lichaam.

Godverdomme dit is mega boeiend. En stoer om hier oprecht, en als gevolg origineel, over te durven nadenken.

Fantastische satire. Buitengewoon goed over nagedacht en erg intelligent provocatief. Goed verdiept in belachelijke argumenten en die vervolgens zeer interessant verkocht op een sympathieke manier. Slim ook om dat als vrouw te doen. Hopelijk komt uiteindelijk de bijsluiter naar boven en wordt dit goed gelezen en van context voorzien. Zo niet heb ík het namelijk verkeerd gelezen en is dit een niet alleen domme, maar schadelijke video. Ik kan mee in het idee van "own your attractivness" en "own your body", maar überhaubt de man die de vrouw consumeert? Een vrouwenlichaam is geen bakje fruityoghurt. Daarnaast, machtsverhoudingen zijn vaak niet zo zwart-wit en jonge meisjes (en jongens) in deze situatie zijn zich zeer zeker niet altijd bewust van de situatie waar ze zich in bevinden. Als jij als adolescent aan een carrière wil bouwen en ambitieus bent, dan denk je, mijn carrière is klaar als ik nu weiger. Dat is ook zo. Dat heeft niets te maken met je lichaam, seksualiteit of vrouwelijkheid als wapen inzetten, maar van chantage. "Ja, maar je hebt daar toch zelf een keuze in?" Misschien, maar als je moet kiezen tussen een keer seks of een massage of dertig jaar carrière wegspoelen, lijkt de duistere kant van de "transactie" zo erg nog niet. Dat legitimeert hem echter niet.

Ik vind het mooi en kunstzinnig verwoord. Maar ze gaat denk ik teveel in op de seksuele verlangens en vervolgens compleet voorbij aan de hele concrete machtsverhoudingen in de situatie. Waarbij seks met Harvey een bijna geformaliseerde poort is naar een betere carrière die 'er bij hoort'. Dat het dan vervolgens ook nog een sulletje is kan het dan inderdaad nog viezer maken ja.

this is an extremely disappointing episode. this half baked attempt at sexuality psychoanalysis only ends up drawing out your internalised misogyny. + i find it so embarrassing when people attempt to deconstruct something as convoluted, varied, and unique as human sexuality, especially when its complicated by authority and fame as such is lea seydoux's case.

Vergeet hier even niet dat niemand weet wat er echt is gebeurd, ook is hij niet veroordeeld. Er zijn alleen maar aantijgingen.

these nuances are both wilfully and ignorantly suppressed with popular rhetoric portraying women as delicates to be protected. But they are of course powerful and best served by understanding that - not being brainwashed by saviours who would disarm and disabuse them. refreshing to hear this voice of honesty, self-reflection & emotional intelligence. more power to Kate.

het perspectief is interessant. de vrouw en het format, ontzettend saai. de stelling is. sex en prostitutie en de vrouwelijke beleving van sex zijn 1 en hetzelfde ding. tenminste dat haal ik er uit. niet policor inderdaad. de fluff om het wel "policor acceptabel" te maken faalt en maakt de boodschap week en slap.

this is so wise and understanding these dynamics between the sexes that are painfull must come to an end.im sure harvy had childhood trauma no exscuse.we all are starting to heal and un cover the lies and pain of society.

I know this is pretty old, but I only just stumbled upon this and hope someone is still willing react. I find Kate's reasoning interesting in it's novelty and I do think that the reasoning she highlights might play a minor role in some of the feelings experienced by the victims, but I do think it's only a small part and that the majority of the victim's feelings are likely to stem from something else. As a social scientist what leads me to believe that her "hypothesis" that it's disappointment stemming from an "unsuccessful" or "incomplete" situation (aka, not real rape, but a pathetic blubbering guy that turns our to be less powerful in some aspects than you believed), is that victims of a real rape (what in her line of thinking would constitute a more complete situation) often feel very similar to the women she discusses. If it's some kind of subconscious disappointment in your attraction not being able to lead to real rape, why would a true rape victim (that obviously does have that "confirmation of her attraction") feel the same way? I hope someone can try to explain this to me.

loco xdxdxd, Het verhaal wordt een beetje uit zijn context gerukt. Dit verteld veel over kate en haar interne belevings wereld. Gelukkig ook deels over het vrouwelijke en mannelijke plus de chemie en alle blunders. Xd mijn ego doet al pijn! Het verhaal over warnystein kan van alles zijn de feitelijke gebeurtenissen liggen in het verleden, en waar het plaats heeft gevonden. Maar deels ben ik het ook met je eens en klinkt het best aannemelijk wat zich afspeelde met warnstein en al die meisjes. En hoe dat verhaal uiteindelijk naar buiten is gekomen. (dierlijk). Dit geeft ook aan dat de lijnen tussen goed en kwaad dun kunnen zijn. En dat het verschikkelijk mis kan gaan in bepaalde situatie's. Plus dat we daar maar weining controle op kunnen hebben. knap geredeneerd en van een behoorlijk hoog niveau en zeer zeker gezond.

Wat is het nut van #metoo als de man in dit filmpje het verhaal van vrouw inkadert en duidt voor de kijker? Ook hier heeft de man het laatste woord.

Very sloppy thinking of a young woman who extrapolates her (limited) thoughts on the issue of sex or unwanted sex with an elderly male with power: their relation is highly unequal altogether. Sinha's thought that the woman is actually looking for the limits of a potential dangerous situation is biased fantasy without even checking facts. Unbelievably mainstream "thinking". Why she makes such a short meaningless interview is a riddle to me...
