play order is Kirby's Dreamland ->Kirby Super Star ->Kirby 64 ->End of Evangelion -> Kirby's Canvas Curse -> Kirby's Air Ride ->episodes 25 & 26 of Neon Genesis Evangelion -> Kirby's Epic Yarn
@@GBDupree I don't remember if it explodes out of him but he did have a giant eyeball in his stomach that also turned into a mouth with sharp teeth. Dedede basically got infected with the G-Virus at one point.
@@Bizarrejoe that ain't shit. That is the smell of salty southern Americans or Koreans when some asshole brought out a Omega Rugal. I know that well as a KoF player. It's like a 75% of that being blood.
Amazing Mirror is still my favorite Kirby game. It's also the first one I played, and when I played the others I was like "wait why isn't this a Kirbyvania like Amazing Mirror was?" Of course I still love all the other Kirby games, but man I would like to play another one like AM.
The first I played was Nightmare in Dreamland, but I totally agree that Amazing Mirror's set up was really cool and it always stuck with me. There were a few areas that I didn't like (mostly cave levels that I found pretty boring) but overall exploring the map and finding new areas was really exciting. I'd also like to see spray paint come back.
@@montengro234 I get that it's a bit more conceptually challenging than other, more conventional Kirby games, but I'm surprised that it hasn't come back. Plus, I think it had really cool multiplayer (I played it with my brother through a link cable frequently as a kid) as everyone playing could go explore on their own and join up at will.
Oh damn I’m not alone. I was heartbroken when I learned that I grew up with one of the only Kirby games nobody talks about. It’s so much fun. Even the four swords Kirby gimmick is fun, having three little AI’s running rampant in the world that you can just bump into
my older brother rly did me right in our childhood letting me play his kirby64 crystal, super star ultra, and squeak squad and eventually epic yarn, kirby is so beautiful :,)
Particularly relevant, since I was just mulling over how I should play more Kirby games. I've played a little of Super Star, and only completed Amazing Mirror and Triple Deluxe.
@@skunthundler I'd say it starts at Kirby's adventure because it introduces the Star Rod which gets brought back in Super Star to summon Nova. And Return to Dreamland states that those things were created by the Halcandran Ancients.
I was genuinely curious about it, having very little knowledge of the Kirby series beyond where the question asker is. I have literally no idea who Zero, Marx, and Adeline are, and I want to know what makes them so beloved to fans. There's also this worry that every game franchise is going to pull a Sonic the Hedgehog, and that there are games that are either amazing or abysmal, with no middle ground.
M. Wayne Start playing via chronological game release, then. If you have a Wii, find the Kirby Dream Collection, which has the first six games (DL1, Adventure, DL2, Super Star, DL3, 64) and go from there. Ultra isn’t a must, but for Galacta Knight’s origins and Masked Dedede, it’d be nice to have. In terms of lore, Squeak Squad for the DS isn’t as important, but Amazing Mirror for the GBA is for later down the line. Play Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot, in that order, since those games are the most lore heavy, and each builds on each other. Star Allies is great for getting used to the modern gameplay, and has a lot of lore to boot, but the Dream Friends confuse if you’re not aware of who they are, and the lore makes quite a few callbacks. The cool thing about Kirby games is that they are all rather easy. As such, there is a low bar for satisfaction to be found, which leads to all the games being very quality. Many believe that there are no bad Kirby games, and as far as the copy ability platformers go, I’m inclined to agree. Of course, this varies between each individual. Also the soundtrack. I always say to start with the older games because they introduce the amazing soundtrack, which is revamped and remixed throughout the series’ progression. That’s all I can say on that front.
No wonder I liked Amazing Mirror so much after playing SSU as a kid. I loved the exploration of both, finding treasures and freely roaming around as I please. I wish there were more Kirby games similar to Amazing Mirror though...
Fuck. Shit. I was about to say "you can start anywhere and bounce around in any direction and you'll get the gist of the lore no matter what", but when you brought up the chart that said "Always start with KSSU" I was floored. KSSU was what turned me into a hardcore Kirby fan despite having played some games in the franchise before. Other Kirby fans out here knowing me better than I know myself.
This just reminded me just how much variety Crystal Shards had in it's mechanic and it's never fully continued with a sequel (though I haven't played those Wii-U ones)
You know the funny thing is, as someone who played most to all kirby games and the likes that i honestly thought this was like a balls out video about what kirby had done for you and gave you why it's the best all that, so kinda had fun goof moment with that flowchart haha great video still and can't wait to see more :)
I grew up with the snes, n64, and gamecube, but never managed to get a physical copy of a Kirby game until Air Ride came along. But I also grew up with emulation so my first mainline Kirby game ended up being Kirby's Dreamland 3 and I think that ended up hooking me right at the start, the crayon drawn aesthetic is so cute! Of course, my first Kirby game as a whole was Kirby's Dream Course, which was soooo fun and chill (in single player at least. multiplayer seems way more chaotic and I'd love to play it with my gf some time). The third one I played was Kirby's Adventure for the nes and that game's music has been living in my head rent free for years. As for my actual introduction to Kirby before playing any of the games, that honor goes to the original Super Smash Bros for the n64. My brother and his buddies played it at our place one time and I thought it was so cool back then. Didn't fully get into the Kirby series as a whole until last year when my mental health went down the toilet. Kirby's basically serotonin in video game character form and I've been fully hooked ever since then. ^_^
Yoooooo, that neon Kirby! My gut would've gone with Kirby's Adventure or Nightmare in Dreamland just for the simplicity, but the argument for Super Star Ultra is strong. I never thought about it basically being a Kirby sampler.
I've only ever played the amazing mirror when I inherited my older brothers GBA and games. I remember really liking it...this was super helpful and made me want to reboot my DS and check some of the other titles out
Woolie, I would like to thank you for enriching my gaming library once again "as the super best friends have done very often". I have always had a fascination with Kirby as a character becouse Kirby super star was my first game ever, and I have very fond memories of it. I just never really bothered getting into the series after that. But your excitement for the series got me to try out most of the games. I am a big Kirby fan now.
I'd never thought of this before but your answer is absolutely correct! Super Star Ultra is the perfect Kirby game to start off with, it is the quintessential Kirby Game and a great representation of the franchise as a whole.
When I was a kid I started with 64 (most recent at the time) and just fell in love. Still one of my favorite games, but yes, START WITH SUPER STAR ULTRA!
Seems like a good grouping of games along how I would probably end up following the chart: Start: Kirby Super Star Ultra -> Squeak Squad -> Amazing Mirror Classic: Dream Land -> Adventure -> Dream Land 2 -> Dream Land 3 New: Crystal Shards -> Return to Dream Land -> Triple Deluxe -> Planet Robobot -> Star Allies
@@duneblythe Oh, well then. Although in that case, I wonder why, if it's "debateable", they just put Adventure instead of a split between the two to show that you can go with either one. Though now I'm just nitpicking.
it's just a remake of kirby's adventure, so while yes, it could've been side by side with the nes version on the chart, i think it's fine as a side note.
I personally find Nightmare in Dreamland inferior to the original NES version. The remake is waayyyyy too low in difficulty due to the fact that all the bosses were supersized in order to become far easier to hit (best examples of this are Dedede and both Nightmare forms). I am someone how enjoys a challenge though, so I can understand how that might not be a big factor for others.
My first Kirby game was Super Star Ultra because it was the most recent one out at the time. And I still hold it high because its just such a robust experience.
I remember playing kirby on my nes and being blown away, even as a 10 year old, by how much better looking and more advanced that game was than most other games in that system. To me that game would be a must at some point for anyone wanting to play kirby games, but I'm not sure if its just the nostalgia talking.
I was literally thinking I needed this kind of video today and whabam here it is! Other than playing Kirby games as a kid (but probably never beating them), I have also fully beaten Kirby Superstar (on Virtual Console), and I'm in the process of beating Kirby's Epic Yarn.
sorry woolz, I just cant keep up this subscription after the SBF blow out, the side channels you guys do were a nice bit of intrigue but the true joy came from all you guys together bringing out that interesting part of you. im sorry u.u
They forgot the other line from Kirby Super Star Ultra: "If you want more combat" ---> Smash Bros. Smash Bros is just spin-off Kirby, convince me otherwise.
Funny thing is that Super Star Ultra was the first Kirby game I've ever played. I had no idea it was the one to really start out with and now I can see why.
I was going to take this video to be a true test on how much Woolie really understands the series, but he immediately made the only correct answer as to where to start. Super Star Ultra is THE Kirby game to start with, because it just has everything you would need to play and need to understand about gameplay and story to use as a reference point.
Well, you follow the timeline: Super Star Ultra's Breeze/Dream Land 1 Nightmare in Dream Land Dream Land 2 Dream Land 3 Kirby 64 Super Star Ultra (the rest) Kirby's Return to Dream Land The Amazing Mirror Squeak Squad Triple Deluxe Planet Robobot Star Allies Kirby Has Fallen Timeline: Canvas Curse Canvas Curse 2...or whatever it's called.
I loved Forgotten Land, got bit by the Kirby bug, then found my way here. Super Star Ultra is now Super Star Expensive, but I have the original version on SNES Classic and (I believe) Switch Online. Just a big bag of fun stuff to see and do, with tons of great animations and music. Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are on the way in the mail.
As someone who has obsessively experienced Kirby games for the 20+ years I've lived on this earth, I can absolutely say that everything Woolie says here is accurate. If you want to get into Kirby, follow this chart.
As someone whose 30+ and started Kirby at Dramland I have some differing opinions on this chart and I think folks should also play original KSS. However chart is very useful and fine.
Game Queen Never heard of Kirby at DramLand is that a fangame? Also Superstar Ultra is just the original SNES game but infinitely superior. There’s reall no point to playing the original unless you just wanna play every Kirby release
Literally thought this was going to be a troll video 😂😂😂 all Kirby games are so alike. But no I’m glad he took it kind of seriously and talked about his experiences. My first was 64 and it is in my top 5 most loved games of my childhood.
From the moment I saw some older kid play her (original) gameboy with Kirby on it when I was around 10 I was completely sold on the mechanics and the character. To this day (17 years later) I haven't played a single Kirby game. Some day I'm gonna buy the next nintendo console and just dive right in with the then current Kirby game. I'm gonna love it and play all the previous games in order of what's recommend here. Really looking forward to that.
Coincidentally, My first game was Kirby Super star Ultra and I haven't bought more Kirby games ever since lol, played some others (the OG super star, Return to Dreamland but didn't play it all, a bit of star allies, a bit of the NES games but that's about it. Maybe some of the Spin offs as well but idk) and I can confidently say that it's one of my favourite games of all time, it's just amazing
My two cents on this topic: On a gameplay standpoint, yes, Super Star is probably the best to start with. It introduces many recurring characters that will be seen throughout the other games, with plenty of copy abilities, and gives a taste of many different ways the same formula can be toyed with for a new experience. From a lore perspective, I’d start from the beginning. Kirby games build off from each other, essentially meaning that chronology runs parallel with release dates. DL2, DL3, and 64 are a trilogy, as are RtDL, TD, PR, and SA being a quad. Super Star does have its own lore that connects to later games, such as Galacta Knight and NOVA, but with how lore theories work, going through the Dark Mater trilogy first may be better from a lore perspective, though it could go either way. There is one problem I have with Super Star, and its how it has multiple attacks for each ability and its health bar. Despite these things being seen in future Kirby games, this may turn off people from the older and earlier Kirby games, where copy abilities only had one attack and it was a hit point system rather than a health bar. Older games also establish the recurring music that appears in most Kirby games, and have more connected lore. That’s just what I think. I started with Kirby Adventure, and have an inclination for the games that provide the foundation for the future. While Super Star certainly did that, it wasn’t the first copy ability session, only evolving the copy ability into what the modern games use. Oh well, that’s just my two cents. My old ass thinks that Marx is real overrated and offers almost no help to the lore. Maybe Marx Soul was created through Dark Matter merging with the remains of NOVA? Only aids the Dark Matter story, really. Never appears again except as a Dream Friend in Star Allies. And we still have no history on GL other than “sealed away for his overwhelming power.” In the end, choose what you want to play first. Oh, and hands down, the best Kirby game is Return to Dreamland for the Wii. It’s got co-op, many fleshed out abilities, plenty of lore, the first in the “modern” timeline of games, a hard mode, and great, colorful, 60 FPS graphics and cutscenes with a high quality soundtrack.
I would add to this that, if you're interested in going in multiple directions, save the return to dreamland route for last. Those games are when they started hard-referencing older characters, which is way more meaningful/satisfying if you've played the older games.
