I love this machine and I would say it's a very good deep cleaner. I love the classic design of this and the fact that I found it new in box 20 some years later was a once in a lifetime find.
I use to have a kirby heritage 2 it was a good vacuum for many years, aso got to use the shampooer on it worked like a charm, would get another one if i could or a newer kirby model.
This is a wonderful video and a great demonstration of your new Kirby! Congratulations on a great find! The Heritage II is one of the very best Kirbys in my opinion. It was tied for the top spot in Consumer Reports ratings in May 1986.
Thanks - yes it was a once in a lifetime find so I had to buy it. I don't use it too often as I prefer to use my Sentria but I still take it for a spin once in a while. :)
The generation series sounds different to me for idk why for whatever reasons for it sounds like a high pitched whine at loud volume for me so i get a headache when i attribute the sound for the ultimate g series diamond edition as well as the sentria
I'm a Bissell Person myself, but these Heritage models are nice. When my stepmother and dad got married, they had a Kirby Heritage 84, then when we moved, then got the Heritage 2. I have a Bissell Easy Vac and a Bissell Powergroom Pet and I use them both a lot.
@MieleTouchtronic Thanks for the reply. Wow it looks amazing! I'm the same way. I wear shoes when I want, vacuum frequently and shampoo as needed. My carpet while darker than yours looks good and I thank Kirby for it. My old vacuum just didn't keep it clean enough.
@NumaticVacuum LOL it's ok. I did replace the brushroll in it with a Kirby replacement that has ball bearing ends - makes a total difference on how easy it is to push, not the bearings but the new brushroll design somehow makes a night and day difference. Also I have new bearings for the motor but have not put them in. In this video you can pick up on the bearing whine which has gotten worse as I have put more hours on the motor. Just have not gotten around to putting them in yet.
so does that micro matic adjustment get worse and slip with the more use it gets? because i have heard that it was a defect on the heritage 2 and legend 2 models. it was just wondering because your heritage 2 is brand new and it didn't slip in this video. has it slipped at all for you recently.
@NumaticVacuum Thanks! It looks brand new because it literally is brand new - I got this new in box after 25+ years of being in storage. See my other videos, I have an hour long unboxing video and photo slideshow of opening this Heritage II after being in storage for all those years!
The Kirby is nothing special but I must comment on your Carpet, that is a lovely carpet! And, looking at the surroundings, it seems you have a very nice and well looked after home. You should be proud ;)
Greetings from England. WOW your heritage 2 certainly looks good against your white carpet. That was a really lucky find. I love kirbys and have everyone from the omega to the sentria. Just got my eye on a Dual Sanatronic 80.
@NumaticVacuum I have heard the same thing but I have not experienced it on mine. I don't use it very often though, it's more of a collector piece for me. If the mechanism is worn out, it will need a new ratchet lever and or fan case to fix it.
Great cleaner & carpeting! The Kirby Heritage II 2-HD was manufactured from Sep. 1984- Aug. 1987. You can determine the exact month and year by reading the serial #: the 2nd & 3rd digits represent the year, and the 4th & 5th represent the month. Happy Kirbying!
@billybassman21 Believe it or not I do wear shoes, and have a miniature schnauzer that often runs around like a madman with wet muddy paws :) I just clean the carpet about every 3 months or so, and vacuum regularly. I have 2 Kirbys, mostly use my Sentria but sometimes pull out my Heritage II.
@genmac1 I don't think it agitates the carpet as well as the Sentria does with it's improved brushroll, however I purchased this machine because I wanted to have this in my collection. Since it was new in box, I simply could not pass up this oppourtunity. It has great airflow and it cleans wonderfully.
the Kirby Heritage 2 Starship Care System cleaner machines is impressive. my people does have vintage Kirby Starship Care System cleaner machines or The Next Generation Series Kirby Starship Care System cleaner machines. I have The Next Generation Kirby Starship Care System cleaner machine it is Ultimate G Diamond Edition. I really like it alot.
Wow that is some white carpet! There is no way you allow shoes on that (or have any kids lol). Well you DO have a Kirby. I have the diamond edition and love it.
@megadarren2 I enjoy using mine from time to time, but I generally grab my Sentria as my day to day machine. The Heritage II is a bit more work for the back :) You can find cheap machines on eBay that are in decent condition - even if it has a few flaws, replacement parts are very affordable and easy to find on eBay as well.
Not really - it's what I consider "cheap" carpet that came with my house when it was built in 2007. It's wearing very well though, but I would prefer a whiter carpet and a denser, softer pile. When this stuff wears out I'll get something more high end.
I’ll have to do that. I actually just hand polished it after it’s been in my closet for a few years. I rarely use it since it was a new in box find and as mint as you can get.
I've found my Classic 3 is easier to push, only cause i have the suction release open full, due to the metal fan in it, the Heritage 2 however, with the plastic fan, is still a suction horse, it still lifts carpets and thats when it gets hard to push a kirby In my opinion
Close to a [ correction wouldnt say a nightmare but fwiw both the loudness and bringing of it to/from stairs is a diffuculty of it] for nearly weekly lifting to go from a downstairs to an up stairs and back again or vice versa
Beautiful machine! I like the way you set up your video. Did you purchase your Heritage II off of EBay a few years ago? I bought one from a seller on EBay who found like 20 of these brand new in the box in a storage unit.
I bought on new in 1985 for 1,400. Lasted 2 months after it sucked up a nickle and broke the plastic fan. Never got it fixed. It sat in the garage for years before It got tossed. G5 and up have unbreakable fans in them.
You can take out the old style fan and replace it with the new style white fan on the 80s models. The new fans are infused with some kind of kevlar material. I swapped it out on my '89 Legend II.

I was having a tough time getting the vacuum to glide smoothly over the carpet,,,I had to adjust the beater bar a bit,,,the Heritage has such strong suction I find it pushes down into the carpet on the forward stroke...is this normal? Thanks...
See what they did at the beginning of the video. Take the height selector all the way up then lower it till the motor noise changes. Your Kirby is now set to the proper height and will move smoothly
i just read some more of your posts,,,can you provide me the part number for the improved brush roll you installed on your heritage...thanks so much...
oh i dont think there's any of them around lol. i have never owned a kirby but i like the classic 3 upwards. im hoping to ask my gran for her kirby tradition soon
