Great video. The Heritage II is one of my favorite model Kirbys ever made. I used to be a Kirby dealer and the reason Kirby went with that style of cord connector on the machine end is because people were using the older style machine cords as long extension cords, which the company did not recommend, but dealers told customers they could do. If you look at the female end of it, you will see that the prongs are also narrower to prevent use as an extension cord.

I used to repair Kirbys ( and many other brands) for about 6 years. For minimum wage. $3.35/hr. Long ago...far away. This brings back memories. I spent many hours in the basement of our store in a tiny room buffing refurbished Kirbys for resale. When I left there, we were selling the Heritage II

Got rid of our Kirby Heritage II years ago. I wish we hadn't now. We had multiple pets then and the old paper bags just didn't cut it. They stunk horribly. This was before the Kirby Micron Magic HEPA bags and I didn't know you could just change the fill tube top to make them work with it. Fantastic machine.

Nice video! I’m a custodian at a high school and I just found one of these old vacuum’s hiding in the back of a closet. It hasn’t been used in years, but I hope to clean it up and get it working again.

I'm revisiting this and love it. I have worked on many Heritage 2s and G4s of all Kirby vacuums I have worked on. I love my Diamond Edition, but I will always say the best Kirbys were the ones made just before the Generation 3.

I have the Heritage II purchased back in 1987

the s/n is actually on the front plate the number under the light on the head light cover is the date stamp for when the head light cover was manufactured there is several dif date stamps on dif pieces of the machine. one thing to note about replacing the bulb with an LED a good number of the led bulbs sold only work with 12v dc and if u put one of those in the vacuum the light will flash off and on. u have to make sure u find one that works with both 12v dc and ac as the vacuum runs the bulb at 12v ac power.

We used to have this vacuum cleaner back in the day; I wished we hadn't donated it. It was very reliable.

Happy Hanukkah Alex You should test this at the powerhead for airflow against your Generation 3. I suspect that despite the increase in power the graceful curve of the Legend’s powerhead results in better airflow at the head than the squared off powerheads of the self propelled series of Kirbys hence better deep cleaning.

The bag latch on my G4 Kirby broke in two. It was easy to put the top of the upper bag holder, but I am difficulty removing the broken half from the upper bracket on the bag itself.

How did you remove the light bulb ?

I'm trying to get to my Kirby to look that clean too but it's kind of hard.

I believe that's a 90s replacement brushroll but I could be wrong

Hi. Last night I was using my heritage II legend when I noticed a sound. Unplugged and now it won't turn on. Orange light comes on but machine doesn't turn on. What did I and/or do I do?

I cannot get the emptor part off from my Heritage II. I want to shampoo the carpet. I am spraying it with WD40 but it will not turn. I watched other RU-vid videos that said to turn it counterclockwise toward the vacuum. But it is just not working. I will probably use the entire can of WD40.
