What a fantastic night this was, and how lucky I was to capture most of it from my most excellent seat in the center of the stage. During the competition, I sat in the second row, directly behind several of the judges, including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Elliot Easton, Jimmy Vivino, Hubert Sumlin and Steve Lukather. You will see that I panned back a few times in order to capture their VERY enthusiastic reactions to this year's winner of Guitar Center's 'King of the Blues' competition, Kirby Kelley. All of the competitors were supported on stage by Grammy award winner, Pete Anderson.

Wow!! What a nice thing to say!! I consider that high flattery, indeed since the GC had several very expensive professional camcorders on hand. Thanks so much for your kind words. I hope Kirby sees this one too. I wish him the very best. I've heard great things about him from several other successful guitarists who've known him for years. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it and that I was able to catch it from my great position. There is another video that was shot for the Guitar Center. It's professional - BEAUTIFUL - but, they didn't include the tearful moment at the end...... ;)

I've seen Kirby play in the Sherman, Texas area around 20 or more times. Every time, the venue was packed ! He played each 3 to 4 hour set without a break. What a masterful entertainer. My congratulations and hope he gets home soon. Having played with Kirby on the tailgate of my pickup, I consider him a friend. Just tell him Tim said HOWDY !!!! Oh... also tell him I said Hi to his rat... *grin**

I shot the judges faces for that reason specifically. I did that during several performances, as, if for no other reason, once the competition was over, I thought the contestants would enjoy seeing things from my perspective. There were big smiles of appreciation, heads bobbing, nodding and rockin' out. What a sight!! Hubert was just plain joyful. :)

@FLAGUITAR - I sat directly behind the judges - Steve Lukather, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Vivino, etc.... - they LOVED Kirby.

One thing I learnt long ago was never knock the competition, it will always bite you in the ass.

@arielista - Yes, the judges were seated directly in front of me. That is Steve and the gentleman on his left was none other than HUBERT SUMLIN, and to Hubert's left was Jimmy Vivino. Sitting behind them during the competition made it all the more interesting for me..... being able to see them react to everyone, and everything.... fascinating. They LOVED Kirby. :))

Ah, I'm not a hater, but I have to agree that he's OK but not great. I've been to many an open mic and half the player would blow him away. If you are in NJ, try Buzz's on Thursday. Go Charlie!
