A bonus video I slapped together to appease those who find Debug modes interesting! If this video appeals to you, might I just ask: What's wrong with you?
As a developer, I’ve gained an appreciation for dev rooms. Not only do most of them provide a sort of mystery wondering what the purpose was for each little detail added to the room, even if most are plainly obvious or boring, But it’s also fun just seeing something designed *solely* for the dev team. Kinda like going back stage of your favorite game and seeing what all they were testing/fixing just before the game was done
I think the ones in 3D games are super interesting, I guess for the fact that there are more variables to be considered when it comes to what was being tested and for what purpose. Like the Super Mario 64 DS ones are really cool, Mario Sunshine has a pretty infamous one, etc. And I didn't even consider the perspective of this being something designed exclusively for the developers, which, upon further thought, makes this dev room in particular a little bit more interesting. Does this mean that those 2 unused puzzle rooms were meant to test the mechanics being displayed rather than being designed for an actual course? The cannon one could've been testing the mechanics of the laser ability and its interactions with sloped surfaces, and the 2nd unused one could've been used to test physics on objects, perhaps? What about the way the World Select room is decorated? It seems like an awful lot of effort for something the player won't ever see, almost as if the devs got sick of looking at some bland room and decided to spruce it up? I think this one has a lot of personality for sure and is definitely one of the more interesting ones I've seen! (Also, thanks for watching this! I had no idea if anyone would even care about this kinda video, so seeing someone provide a thoughtful comment means a lot!!)
