The Japanese Mario 2, regardless of its the version in All-Stars or the original release, has been officially called "The Lost Levels" overseas since it's re-release on Wii Virtual Console. Rather than having to constantly specify which Mario 2 I was talking about, I just call Mario 2 JP "The Lost Levels" since that's the title most of my audience would know it by. If that's not what you're referring to, then I have no idea what you're talking about here? Mario 2 JP (The Lost Levels) was released in 1986, whereas Mario 2 US was released in 1988?

Funnily enough I had mentioned it in an early script but ended up cutting it since I already mentioned it in my Zelda 1 & 2 videos. I guess I thought "ah well I don't need to mention it a third time" without realizing why that's dumb as hell, but by the time I realized it the video was like 70% edited so I didn't really have the means to add it in. I WILL mention it again in the future though, I find the differences between hardware to be super fascinating and I always thought the music comparisons between a base Famicom and a FDS to be a really neat way to illustrate it!
You should have mentioned the beta underground theme for the SMB2 half. It’s a remix of the SMB1 underground theme that gets some seriously kickass drums added in, and goes even harder after it loops a few times
While the sprite and tile animation in SMB2 is definitely a huge improvement I feel it's worth noting that the original NES game actually had an oversight in its code causing the game to skip the last frame of the animation circle, resulting in this weird stutter/jump. You can clearly see this in stuff like the waterfall where the animation does a sorta skip. The silly thing is that all it takes to actually fix this is changing one byte value in the game. Could probably be done easily with a game genie
I'd forgotten about that waterfall animation - it sure bugged me back in the day! I was probably making my own animations in SEUCK at that time so it reminded me of my own amateurish attempts... though I probably assumed it to be a dodgy PAL conversion... PS. It didn't bother me that much, I'd have been utterly entranced by having a new Mario game to play :) Even if it was a bit weird compared to SMB1.
Still kind of wish got a direct sequel to this game, something about the mechanics are just, really fun. I guess the e-reader levels in Mario Advance 4 come close. But does anyone find it weird how ShyGuys never appeared as an enemy in a mario game, only really being the Yoshi Enemies, strange!
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is as close to a "sequel" we've gotten, and as much as I adore that game, i don't really think it comes anywhere close to being a full-fledged successor to the mechanics established here. I'd kill to see Wart and Mouser come back!!
This video debunked the literal fetus theory, but the metaphorical version of the theory is still on the table. We have to consider that fetus final bosses are somewhat common and only a fraction of them are supposed to be true references to 'bortions, the fetus is used for a different metaphor and the act only happens because that's just the word for it.
anohter reason why, is maybe the baby was an mistake. if you turn around the grid giygas its his original form, since his mind has been destroyed, his ratonality i gone and he isnt actually concious hes an twisted shell of what he is.
I think the baby imagery in Gyigas is meant to repersent that all of humanity has some kind or at least potential of being evil. The whole "growing up" thing makes sense, but personally, I believe that "everyone has as equal potential to be evil, as they have potential to be good" is a better theme for EarthBound

There was an arcade called donkey Kong returns which is part two to the original game n more levels now it could be a lost game that’s a rom hack or a made up rom hack but I’ve played it it’s just as fun
@10:48 The smallest mountain is not labeled "No 3", it is labeled "No 1~3". The "1" mostly blends in with the thick grid line. So the first mountain is around 1 through 3, the second is 4, and the third is 5. EDIT: Also, the screen mock-up uses the middle "No 4" mountain, not the largest mountain. The mock-up mountain is 14 blocks wide at its base, which matches the "No 4" mountain. (The small mountain is 8 blocks wide, the large mountain is 20 blocks wide and extends all the way to the right edge of the screen.
Also, pardon the double comment. Since this one doesn't fit with the previous comment. But, what does Giygas say in the Japanese version? I'm curious, since the game was rather... localized. Though, to be fair. I don't really see why they'd localize the dialog to still be horrifying to kid players. So, I'm assuming this might be one of the few parts accurately translated.
After they released the history book about the lore they might drop all the design documents eventually but I don't think it'll be dropped like soon 😢 I hope I'm wrong
I think that they don't have the tools to localize it, they'd basically need to make a rom hack... but still, I don't think it's impossible, maybe it'll be tommorow.
