Great video Deano, the legend 2 was the kirby my mum and dad bought new in the early 90’s i remember it being demonstrated at our home, he was there ages, they had it for 18 years then bought a dyson, mad decision lol. Keep up the videos i always enjoy watching them. I should buy a legend 2 for old times sake but my mrs won’t have any of it!
From 1979 to 1981, Kirby had the Tradition 3CB which was the first machine to have a disposable bag system and, for a short time, the speed switch that was mounted inside the headlight.
To add to what you said - the Heritage also introduced the Turbo Brush (later known as the Zipp brush), the Turbo Groomer (think air powered hair trimmer), the Handi Butler (a utility tool), the Turbo Sander, & the Rug Renovator. The Heritage II Legend introduced the Zipp Brush & the brush roll indicator (early models didn’t have this). Kirby tended to modify features frequently throughout the production run of models. Some changes also depended upon where you lived in the world. Here in the U.S. the Legend II accessory tools were the same as the Legend, only the color changed. The accessory tools you showed were held to coincide with the G3 release here in the U.S..
Much like you, the Kirby Heritage II has gotten me into vacuum cleaner collecting, the versatility and cleaning power of Kirby vacuums, and rebirthed my love of vacuum cleaners.
One of the nice things of the heritage ii mini emtor is that it can be used to convert older models (as old as some model 500s) to use paper bags (or hepa if desired). I converted a tradition model to use the twist style (hepa) bags back in the day.
Just rescued a legend 2 from the curb and scrap man. Needs a new power cable and some refurbishing... Your content will come in handy for that. Hopefully the wife doesn't start asking why do we need 2 Kirby's

Hi Dean. Nice video, but I felt the need to correct you on something. From the model 505 introduced in 1955 through the Heritage 84, the part on the bottom of the bag was called the Sani-Em-Tor, not the Mini-Em-Tor. The Mini-Em-Tor was released with the Heritage II. If someone opted for a shake out bag on the Heritage II, then they got that bag with the Sani-Em-Tor, like all models before. All Kirby shake out bags had a small zipper in the back which had small glove with a scraper attached to it called the Sani-Scraper, which allowed you to scrape down the dirt, hair, etc from the inside of the bag into the Sani-Em-Tor so you could get the dirt out of the permanent bag without having to reach up into it and pull it out.

@@KirbyEnthusiast Great videos! I used to be a Kirby dealer back in the late 70s - early 80s. When I came on board, they were starting to sell the Tradition. I always loved Kirby since I was a kid, and selling them was a lot of fun. I also ran the repair shop during the day and did demos in the evenings/weekends. Boy, could I tell you some stories. Nice to find someone who likes to talk Kirby.
Thanks for a great summary of the second gen machines! I have a classic iii with the tartan bag. Is there any way to retrofit to so it can use a paper bag? I don’t use it much because Shaking out the bag is a pain! A paper or hepa bag would make this machine perfect!
K.E., I was looking at a Heritage 2 and it has the big nozzle like the tradition and Heritage 1, not the smaller nozzle. Did they just use up the older stock of big heads until they were used up?
I think they must have , also the late legend II came with G3 tools and caddie as Kirby had shortage of G3s so continued selling the legend 2 in Australia and Uk using the G3 mould for tools and caddie in Legend 2 color scheme. 👍👍
Hay, what size snap ring goes on the white cog on the transmission...I took it apart as you advertised but the super small snap ring flew off to never Neverland. So I need to order another one but I need to know what size it it?!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I have several Kirby vacuums, but of all of them my favorite and the one I use daily is my legend 2. I also have a heritage 2 as well, but for some reason I like the legend 2 better. My legend 2 must be an early model because the sticker on the bottom of the machine still says heritage 2. I have seen some other ones like this as well, so it is not just like someone switched covers or something. If I am not mistaking, I believe they are the same model number as well. I do have one question though that I cannot find an answer to. What is the difference between the Kirby Heritage 2 Turbo and the Heritage 2 Legend? Mine is the one that says Turbo, I have not used one that says legend, but are they different in any ways, and why did they do this?
@@KirbyEnthusiast we owned the heritage II back in the 80s, and gave it to my grandma when we got the Ultimate G diamond edition, unfortunately my grandmother moved and couldn't take the vacuum with her and had to donate it to goodwill.
@@markvolpe2305 that’s a shame love the heritage 2 . First Kirby I ever saw demonstrated, from that day on I swore I wouldn’t use any other vacuum than a Kirby when I got my own place . 👌👌
