Go and listen to Amira Willighagen and Corlea Botha sing this song. They are not in any shape or form recognized by the opera establishment as singers, yet they give these ladies a run for their money. I love Dame Kiri, but they sure seem stiff and uninspired in this version. I sure didn't go "wow" as I did hearing Amira and Corlea sing even though they are not as technically proficient as these ladies.
I listened and agree with that. Im no opera buff but it was much better. They seemed to listen to each other, held notes better and the song suited the young voices.
Julianne Heindorf - I agree that they both seem stiff and uninspired here. My personal favourite version is by Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca. Their voices are perfectly matched and their faces are animated because they’re acting the roles in a conversation. There’s even subtitles in French which I enjoyed. Bill Kinnaird - I think you’d like this version too as I agree with your comment about this aria suiting younger voices.
I'm also a New Zealander, and even I can tell that their French pronunciation is terrible (and I learned what little French I know in Belgium, so it's hardly "refined"). And I don't know what Malvina Major is doing with her voice, but she's all over the place and shouting.
@@januarygirl2630 Meaning that they wouldn't be any good performing on stage in an opera unless they had microphones. A story is always more shocking when it's missing things. lol
