Kirin: The Sacred Creature of Japanese Folklore - Japanese Mythology - See U in History #Shorts Art: Marcus Aquino Color: Rod Fernandes #JapaneseMythology #Mythology #SeeUinHistory #History #MythologyExplained
In short: the kirin is an ancient Chinese mythical beast whose tales and legends went to Japan and all the stuff mentioned in this video about its attributes are from Chinese accounts that later found themselves in Japan. I'm not saying it's *not* Japanese, but whenever we learn about Roman deities, within the first few sentences we learn that they have a Greek origin/counterpart. I feel like this almost never happens when hearing about Japanese or Korean culture vs. Chinese culture.
Even more interesting facts: The Kirin actually originated from Chinese Mythology, but in China they are called "Qilin"(pronounced Chee-Lynn), in Japan & Korea they are called "Kirin" or "Girin"(though "Kirin" is the Modern Japanese Term & "Girin" is the Modern Korean term for Giraffe, this is due to the fact that ancient explorers who visited Africa would bring Giraffes to Asian Countries and claimed that they are Qilin[Kirin, etc] because of certain characteristics that people used to describe Kirin[Qilin, etc.] that were actually found in Giraffes), in Thailand they are called "Gilin", in Vietnam they are called "Ky-Lan"(pronounced Key-Lung), but despite being referred to as the "Chinese Unicorn", the Kirin(Qilin, etc.) is actually a chimerical hybrid of several different creatures, though for the most part it is pretty much some kind of "Dragon-Deer", mainly due to the Dragon-like Scales & association with Fire, and the Deer-like Body & Antlers, some even say that it is believed to somehow be a relative of the Sika Deer, besides the Chinese already have a mythological Dragon-Horse, it is known as the "Long-ma", often described as a Horse-like creature with hooved legs, a dragon-like head, scales, and even wings, and also breathes fire, so to help clarify, Longma = Dragon-Horse, Qilin(Kirin, etc.) = Dragon-Deer, either way you look at it, let's all just be "Chillin' like a Qilin".
According to legend, when the Chinese philosopher Confucius was born his mother said to have saw a Kirin outside the birthing house and told her that he will be a great sage.
It IS the Qilin. It is an imported Chinese mythological creature. Also appears in other East and SE Asian countries that experienced Chinese influence.
The Kirin Represents Law and Order legend has it that The Kirin will look into the Person's Eyes if your Found Guilty of a Crime you will be Gored by the Horns of the Kirin if Found not Guilty it will walk away and spared your life
