I'm not going to lie; that was a great episode (and I'm a bit late to the party). However, you overlooked a few important details. First, in the ALO arc, Kirito's only goal is to save Asuna. Admittedly this can be taken as him trying to preserve the relationship, but it should be noted because this means that there is no way that he could spend intimate time with Asuna. Since he can't spend time with her, this entire arc cannot be used to qualify him as a love avoidant. In fact, before he found a way to return Asuna from the virtual world, it is shown he spends a lot of time in her hospital room. Therefore, at the very least, Kirito is emotionally invested, which, unless I am mistaken, is the opposite of what love avoidants do. Furthermore, in the GGO arc, before he was asked to inspect the murders that appear to be caused in game, it is shown that Kirito spends time with Asuna outside of ALO, specifically, to visit (if I remember correctly) the Imperial Palace. Here, Kirito explains what he believes to be the difference between the physical and virtual world, data. Simply put, because computers cannot generate the same amount of stimulation as the real world, it is possible to tell the difference. Using an example of his own hand, he asks Asuna if she can tell the difference if both worlds had the same amount of feedback. Asuna replies the she could if it was his hand. This line, in my opinion, isn't something a love avoidant would say as it is intimate. Sure, she could be trying to keep up the pretext of a relationship, but surely just being there would be enough for that. The same goes for Kirito. If he was trying to avoid intimacy, why would he use himself as an example? Surely, he could have used the bench they were sitting on instead and still get his point across. Therefore, while the times it is shown are few and far between, it seems likely that they do spend most of their time together. This is further supported elsewhere. For instance, Asuna, before she is even released from physical therapy, went to school to bring Kirito lunch. They talk a bit and Lizbeth comments that they're basically always together. Also, when they do spend time hunting with the party in ALO, Asuna and Kirito mostly just sit alone together while the rest of the party handles it. The other characters share their displeasure with this and how it always seems to happen. Clearly, they would have at least said something to Kirito and Asuna. So, why is it still a problem? I see only a couple possibilities. Either, they just don't care like the worst kind of "friend" imaginable, or they are still rather addicted to one another, so much so, that they can't help their other friends if they see a possibility to spend time alone together. Once again, not the conduct of a love avoidant couple in a relationship. This brings me to the final parts of the anime - (I'm ignoring the Excalibur arc for a reason explained in a bit) the Mother's Rosario arc. In this arc, Yuuki Asuna meets Konno Yuuki (because sharing a name is symbolism for what the arc is about, Asuna learning to use her strength from the virtual world). During this arc, no time between Asuna and Kirito is shown except when Asuna asks about Yuuki and where she can find her. She finds Yuuki to be in the opposite situation as her (because symbolism) and eventually relies on Kirito to allow Yuuki to spend time in the real world. The relevant part here is that no couple time is shown. (In fact, Asuna's mother is shown to be adverse to her relationship with Kirito and actively attempts to separate them.) This entire arc, like all the rest excluding the only one actually in SAO, only lasts for a couple days and rarely varies from the plot that it is focused on. This applies even to my previous point, the scene in the imperial castle, as later, its theme of technological advancement and kirito's field of study would be relevant to this arc. Also, my other examples were merely exposition at the beginning of the second season. Outside of plot essential events, nothing is shown in this anime. Therefore, the presumably many and constant times that Asuna and Kirito spend together isn't shown because its no longer relevant to the plot. Yes, romance is one of the shows genres, but it is really focused on virtual reality, its effects on the human brain and our sense of reality, and the possible separation between online and offline personas. Unfortunately, none of these relate to love, despite the vast amount of seeking/finding love that occurs in the show. This, however, won't stop me from giving another definition for love based off of these facts (I do like yours but its almost impossible to perfectly define love. Almost is used because I'm sure someone somewhere has a definition that works "perfectly" for them). Because they are not love avoidants I will treat this as the "actual" love circumstance. Ever since the beginning, one thing has remained constant in Kirito and Asuna's relationship: devotion. Specifically, they put the other before anything else that they are doing. In SAO, Asuna is who he pledges that he will release from the game. Asuna is who he asks to stay away from the floor 75 boss. And Asuna is who he literally dedicates his life to after Kuradeel almost kills him. Asuna, in turn, dedicates herself to him and repeatedly tells him that she will protect him. She explains that Kirito gives her life meaning and that without him, she would commit suicide. In ALO, Kirito singlemindedly works to free her, going so far as to literally risk his life and probably suffer real world wounds. Despite her constant insistence to Nobuyuki that Kirito will save her, Asuna attempts to free herself and uses what she gained, not to attempt another escape, but to let Kirito know that she heard and to help him. Later, Asuna, in an attempt to keep Kirito safe, tells him not to worry about her; none of this world is real (virtual world plot thickens). In GGO, Kirito chooses to leave out the fact that he might die so as not to worry Asuna (which, you're right, still isn't cool) and, later, Asuna finds where Kirito is diving from to give him support instead of just geting angry like the average self-centered human being would. In the Mother's Rosario arc, Kirito protects the boss room from a raid so that Asuna and Yuuki could beat it. He also gives Asuna the information needed to find Yuuki in the real world. Asuna, in this arc, fought her mother to be able to spend time with Kirito. Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that complete devotion to another is what love is. At least, this is my belief, and it fits Kirito and Asuna's relationship through what we are shown throughout the show. Their relationship can't be a case of love avoidance based on the exposition of season 2 despite the appearance the rest of the season gives because of its fixation on the plot over established and settled relationships, so their situation can be used to define love. Unless there is a problem with this theory that I missed, then their relationship can be used to define love. Yes, their relationship isn't perfect but perhaps the reason we struggle to define love is that we all want it to be perfect when, in reality, it isn't. Love is the complete devotion of one's own self to another person.

You're whole argument implodes when you look at a few facts. After SAO, Asuna is still stuck in virtual reality, and Kirito takes the very first opportunity to get her out. After he does,they spend a LOT of time together in real life. And Kirito does indeed tell Asuna that he is leaving ALO for a while to take care of stuff in another game. He lets her know it's serious, but doesn't want to scare her by telling her exactly what's going on. If they weren't really in love, how do you explain all of this?

I was really looking forward to having something benign playing in the background while I played some video games, but I must say that I am generally disappointed with your review of the Kirito/Asuna relationship. Either you're research was lacking, or your interpretation of the activities was skewed, but I found many of your arguments either invalid or just blatantly wrong. 2:10 - You assume that Kirito and Asuna are not part of groups "because they're just not that good at making friends," which blatantly wrong. had you watched all of SAO2, you'd have known that Asuna speaks specifically on how alone and oppressed she was when you she joined SAO, a shadow of who she really was, because she still felt the oppressive effects from living with her mother. On the other hand, Kirito is either an ambivert, or an introvert. Again, your assumption that they have to work together because Kirito has problems making friends, is invalid. If I know anything from watching too many Pysch2go videos, it's that introverts and ambiverts aren't necessarily anti-social, they just don't feel inclined to make the first move in social situations, and feel uncomfortable socially interacting with people they are not already familiar with. Just in the first episode, we see that Kirito has no problems making friends by meeting and helping Klein, forging a friendship that survives the series. His initial interaction with Asuna being awkward and uncomfortable perfectly matches what we already know about how ambiverts act in new social interactions. Related: 3:30 - You mention a driving force to Kirito and asuna not wanting to make any friends before they met, but you never define it. The reasons for each, respectively, are because Kirito was a beta tester, and felt like an outsider from the rest of the player base that thought beta testers were in the wrong, from the start; And because Asuna, again, was still feeling the oppressive effects of her home life with her mother. 4:00 - You assume that most guilds live together, while I do not personally remember any evidence to support this throughout the series, you also neglected to consider that Asuna is a high ranking member of the KotBO, and has way more freedoms with how, and where, she can live. 6:20 - "We can see there are still some very intense feelings," Just, just no, wrong, so blatantly wrong, rewatch the episode. Asuna starts freaking out when she realizes that she had awoken in a public area without a body guard, because there is a new method of PK'ing where PK'ers force sleeping players in public area's to enter duels from whence they can kill their enemy from. Once she realizes that Kirito was there the whole time, and had no intentions of doing anything negative to Asuna, she cools down. I personally this is a moment where their relationship grows stronger because of a mutual trust that they realize. 6:30 - You're making a big deal about how a pair of people who are typically loners, work together to solve murders, but I feel like this another place to mention, that neither of them are loners, Kirito is an ambi/introvert, and at this point, Asuna has let go of her metaphorical shackles, and has starting realizing her own strengths, and has been climbing the ranks of KotBO. 8:00 - You assume that their relationship withers away; That they start seeing each other less often, and when we do see them together, it's among friends, which are all, abject failures of comprehension. Just because we do not see them together often, does not mean that they are not. The focus of the GGO arc was GGO, not Asuna and Kirito's relationship, so naturally, it features very little of it. All we get is enough exposition to see that the friends are all still together, they are attending school together, and in fact, there is a quote, I can't remember where from or specifically who said it, but someone else had said, while talking with some of the other SAO survivors and observing them, 'that they spend almost every moment of spare time together,' paraphrasing here, but I'm too lazy to go back and rewatch the GGO arc just to find it. Their relationship is healthy and happy through here, which is the important part. 9:00 - You assume that they are 'love avoidants', again, wrong. You have to remember, that Asuna and Kirito are teenagers, and when they first joined SAO, they were really young teenagers. Sex is still very much illegal in the real world, and awkward in the virtual world. Just as well, once both of them are out of permanent video game traps, Asuna has to go back to live with her mother again, and has to again recede into the her mothers oppression, which would help explain any perceived avoidance she has for Kazuto: She has to keep her relationship simple, and not to ambitious, just so her mother will continue to let her see him. 10:00 - No, just, why, "he's subconsciously looking for intimacy outside of his relationship." Why do you do this to me?! ;-; He doesn't go looking for any intimacy outside his relationship, in fact, during the ALO arc, the only thing he's doing, is thinking about Asuna. During the GGO arc, he experiences no intimate moments with Sinon, outside of saving her from a homicidal psychopath. 10:40 - I'm gunna act like you didn't just say that Kirito was out adventuring in another game without telling Asuna. He told her that he was spoken to by his government contact who wanted him to go into another game. Kirito didn't tell her all the details of course, but she knew that he was elsewhere, doing something important. positivePXL - *huffing and puffing*, okay, I think I'm done, that's enough for now, too much hyper-criticism for one night, just gunna go, get back to Overwatch. . .

I know what love is...love is feeling of respect,care,liking personality of other person Similar to friendship but on much much higher level that we actually aren’t able to tell. Also people that are in love feel that they want to get closer to the person that they love.The person that feels love feels like he/she is trying to find something/someone that fill the gap inside of them....love can be found on different places in different timelines.....there are different types of love for each person and diffrent types of love for an objects that are around you...love is something complicated that can only feel yourself to understand it your own way.
i think yall missed the mark Japanese people as you see in most animes are very conservative in their relationships like kirito subconsciously held asuna's hand and she had to remind him everyone was watching them causing both to blush. i think you overlooked some small but crucial points.
In my opinion, Kirito is just a girl magnet. He's the friendly guy that cares about everyone and is nice to everyone. That's why he draws soo many chicks to him, becasue they misinterpret his friendliness for him actually liking them romantically.
If you think about it, it makes sense that kirito and sinon would be friends and be drawn towards each other, they are both going through the same mental struggles and have no one to talk to about it. Also, the reason Kirito didn't tell Asuna about it was because he didn't want to trouble her or make her worry. If she had known that he was in danger she wouldn't have let him go.
You missed soo many little but not least details that show that Kirito really is only into Asuna and not into anyone else. He first kissed her, he holded her hand many times, he even cryed when they got separated and many other details

The term Japanese normally use for "friends" is "tomodachi". However, that was NOT the word Kirito used. He called Lisbeth and Asuna his "nakama", which roughly translates to "comrade(s)". The term is much closer than something like "friend", as he said they were his "comrades from SAO", or people who he shared experiences with from SAO. He wasn't simply saying Asuna and Lisbeth are nothing more than friends. To add to that, he didn't clarify about being in a relationship with Asuna because that's just something people don't just bluntly say in some asian cultures.
Yeah, giving the 'r' in Kirito a hard 'r' pronunciation like a pirate. Pronouncing the 'A' in Asuna as the same as the 'a' in 'apple' as well as fully pronouncing the 'u' when it's a whispered vowel. It's funny to hear.
Because Asuna is a fucking basic bitch in the harem past the SAO Arc and has no other character development. Take Alice, her character development has been going for 4 whole seasons now.

*WARNING SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT READ AT YOUR OWN RISK* The VR system they use (don't know how to spell it) prevents them from hiding their true feelings, this was mentioned in SAO II and it was either episode 22 or 23, I can't remember, so if they truly didn't love each other they would have known, if the Nerve Gear did the same it is unknown because it is unstated in the anime, but if it is like the other VR system then they would of been unable to hid their true feelings from each other. Another factor to take into account is their AI daughter Yui who was programmed to help the SAO players deal with the emotional problems, but wasn't able to. When she saw Kirito and Asuna together she saw happiness and hope. When it came to ALO why would Kirito go through all that trouble just to save Asuna when there was a chance that she wasn't even in the game? He didn't truly know she was there until he got to they Grand Tree and Yui said she found Asuna's player ID. Kirito's "sister" even states they Kirito is in love, not here exact words, with Asuna. Besides dating in the real life, for them anyways, for over a year, one would think that they would have gotten to know what the real Kirito and Asuna are like. When it came to GGO it was stated by I want to say Liz they the reason Kirito didn't tell Asuna was because he wanted to keep her safe from Death Gun sense he had no idea how he was actually killing people. When it came to the Yuki story line Kirito knew what was up and that's why he let Asuna help her because ever sense they got out of SAO Asuna was unable to help anyone in need and that's why he let her go off and help the Sleeping Knights, yes I know he did help towards the end, but only by fending off a large group of players and preparing a feast for them after the fight with the message "congratulations on your victory" showing that he knew they were going to win as well as giving Asuna Yuki's location and asking her if she really wanted to see her knowing that she would not like what she would find. Besides when Kirito and Asuna are together they are two different people. Kirito and Asuna are more open and joyful when they are together then they usually are. This is just my analysis with some examples from the anime and I apologize that it's kind of long. What do you think? Andrew Byrne ok so i have seen all of season 1 of Sao but i havent watched season 2 so i have just a question do they just like show very little of asuna in Season 2 and if so when they do show her is she with kirito and "happy"? or i guess i am saying should i watch it because in my head i have an idea that they got a great relationship but i am afraid in season 2 that disappears so should i watch it (last thing do you know if they plan on making season 3?)
First off to answer your first question they do show little of Asuna, but more then they did with the second half of season 1 (second half of season two she gets a lot of air time). Now about your question about season 3 nothing is confirmed, but there are rumors about there being a third season we will just have to wait and see. Now for the additional evidence from season 2. It is stated towards the end of season two: Asuna tells her mom that in the virtual world you can't hide your feelings. Asuna even calls Kirito at about 11:30pm just to check in on him. Before Kirito goes into GGO he informs Asuna that he is going to check in on what's going on, but towards the end Klien gets angry saying "why didn't he tell us I would of gone with him" then Liz says "We all would have. That's why he didn't tell us. If it was dangerous he wouldn't want us to be in danger" (some paraphrasing involved, this goes back to season 1 when Kirito tells Heathcliff that Asuna's safety is his priority). Something that i forgot to mention was that in episode 13 of season one Asuna mentions how because of Kirito she went from crying herself to sleep every night to sleeping soundly just by thinking of him. In the special Asuan, Slica, Liz and , Suguah (i think i spelled it correctly) all talk about Kirito and Liz ask Asuna who declared their feelings for each other first and she says that it was Kirito even though Asuna did fall for him first starting from the incident where she took a nap under a tree and Kirito kept and eye on her. To be clear there are incidents that we do not know about because they haven't been revealed yet and i'm sure the books have more information I just don't have access to them so I don't know. In the progressive manga of SAO (a reboot of the Aincrad arc) we see more of Asuna's and Kirito's relationship before the Kuradeel incident. Finally, the SAO movie has more information on their relationship I won't spoiler anything because for one thing that is a horrible thing to do, secondly no one likes spoilers, and thirdly I haven't even seen the movie so I couldn't even if I wanted to.Remember everyone has a biased opinion I am just giving my evidence on why I think Treesicle is wrong (watching the Anime for a third time helps when gathering information).

When you mentioned the "ALO Arc" I just thought: "WOAH, THERE" Man, how can you say Kirito is a love avoidant when he is CLEARLY playing ALO to save Asuna, who's mind is trapped in the game by the "villain" who is the game owner and wants to marry Asuna just to acquire her family's company and then just euthanize Asuna before someone goes to free her? Like, he's not avoiding her, he's all the time on the hospital visiting Asuna's inconcient body, trying to talk to her about how much he misses her and hopes he can finally fullfill his promise of freeing her from those virtual worlds. I mean, I was listening to your theory which is pretty good, but even then, still a theory, and even though I was liking it, when you mentioned ALO it just became invalid for me. You clearly didn't research properly for a theory of an anime which is really popular in several age groups
Villains in SAO don´t make much sense. I´ve seen this many times already - it´s just a manipulation. Let´s make the villain a psycho, so everybody will side with the MC, who´s clearly always in the right and it´s always also the more competent person, than anyone else. We don´t need more 1-dimensional superhuman MCs, instead we need more MCs, that are actual humans with personal growth.
That was a great video but as for me, I souly disagree about on wht your pointing out.. I am a SAO fan and Kirisuna Loveteam fan As we'll. For me, I wouldn't love this anime if it's not for those two MC..
really interesting interpretation which changed the way I looked at the relationships and the characters themselves (i know sao is trash but it's my type of trash). I will point out though that Kirito did visit Asuna at the hospital everyday, and that the reason he didn't tell asuna he was going into gun gale was so she wouldn't worry about him given he was looking into murders (still should have told her though) and he doesn;t go looking to have an adventure with a girl he just ends up working with whats her name since he was unfamiliar with gun gale and she approached him (mistaking him for a girl)
@@tsunderism the eastern relationship is more conservative and have its limit.for example,in western you could hold hand together even if you are not a couple but in the eastern you can only do that with your couple.no one else.
I don't really think their relationship is falling apart. - Kirito doesn't tell Asuna what he's doing because he doesn't want her to worry, he doesn't want her to try to help him because she might get hurt - They "avoid" each other because they were loners before they met. - But they do have cute moments with each other aswell.
Yeah you are right but to be honest I really hated how they were not together in season 2,They could have been an badass duo, But season 3 was amazing and i really love it And eugeo was amazing but I was really sad when he died, Because it shows when Kirito was again cut off from those he loved ( including Asuna) in the Underworld,Eugeo was his partner to compensate for those and for 2 years he was his partner,But again he died as if he didn't suffer earlier. But i love how Asuna Went in the Underworld as a goddess risking her life just for Kirito because for her he was her ultimate priority and it's her turn to save him now

The fact is even in SAO 2 there was shared intensity both with GGO and with Asuna's mother trying to separate them by having Asuna go to a different school and trying to set her up with potential suitors. However, it is not the time away or the intensity of the situations, it is the level of commitment and communication that determines the health of a relationship. Kirito and Asuna have demonstrated actually very good communication skills, unfortunately better then some my clients and Kirito showed more then his depth of commitment standing up to Asuna's mother. Professionally I would say for their age they have a very good relationship (in their IRL) The fact that they are not rushing into things or allowing themselves be forced one way or another actually also demonstrates wisdom on their part. Sorry for the length, but this is what happens when you have a pshrink, who is a long term geek and otaku sidelined by illness.
Really interesting... The couple has a renewal in their relationship in Ordinal Scale, and along with it another intense experience where a lot is on the line for both of them, seeming to confirm your theory here. ALSO ITS FLOOR 74 NOT FLOOR 76 WHERE HE ALMOST DIES.
... or Kirito is just an edgy douchbag that must continue forming his harem besides his relationship because Reki Kawahara doesn't have the balls to do his own show and instead trys to pander to every fanbase simultaneously at the expense of the plot. Somehow i doubt that a writer that couldn't even be bothered to research MMORPGs for his MMORPG based story would go out of his way to add long term consequences and psychological reasoning to the relationship he barely supported anymore after the aincrad arc.
I watched Sword Art Online one and two after seeing this video. I will say that while he makes good points, these points are out of context. All of SAO 2 was simply because Kirito didn't want to drag Asuna back into the s*** of another possibly life-threatening VRMMO. Kirito went into GGO in SAO 2 because he was asked to by some government(?) dude who wanted to see what was going with people mysteriously dying while playing GGO. SPOILER ALERT! There was a guy climbing he could murder people in the game and kill them in real life again. Also Kirito joined ALO because he saw a picture of who he believed was Asuna at the top of the world tree. He believed she was trapped there and he felt he needed to get to her. As far as Kirito and Asuna not being together very often in real life, Kirito said Asuna's parents brought her to a hospital pretty far from his own home, so they presumably pretty far from each other.
spoilers in this comment from SAO 1 and 2: sure u have some good points, BUT there are some things you overlooked... Once the two get out of SAO Kirito imediately tries to go get Asuna from her place in the hospital. Once he realizes that she is still stuck he can't calm himself down from getting her and at every moment with Leafa he wont stop making sure he gets there, and fast. Once she is out they spend a lot of time in game and out and you know that because somebody (I can't remember who) says they're like that (when they're together on that hill thing in ALO after Aincrad floated again) all the time. Also Kirito probably doesn't want to worry Asuna about stuff which is why he doesn't say anything and also wants to keep everyone safe from Death Gun because he is like that. Another fact is that once the new Aincrad came, they waited and hoped they would reach floor 22 so they could get the same beautiful log cabin. Once they beat the boss and got to floor 22 they separated from the others and went with Yui to the log cabin and bought it. And Kirito wasn't looking for more intensity in GGO he was just trying to save other people like he normally does. I know there are more reasons but I wont list them.

I actually really like Kirito as character because he is kinda like me .....trying to be strong...beeing strong...but actually sad inside because of it trying to find love and happiness in different things until he started spending time with Asuna who he started to grow feelings for :>
I know right, doesn't help I'm slightly paranoid and don't trust easy, but don't lose hope as long as you show that you want to be loved and so forth someone will be there. A tip, try to smile and be more open, and flirting doesn't hurt, just don't be deterred if it doesn't work out right away. Have some confidence

i somewhat agree with that - yes the show doesn't show them going on dates and stuff. but it's a show... AND this isn't highschool dxd... i mean i watched the first 2 seasons but had to quit why? i was annoyed that it had pretty good storyline and a fun idea for a plot, but 99.99% of the show is boobs and harem crap where issei can't control his screwed up fantasies... so ok... sure i guess you can kind of see kirito's situation as a harem but it's clear he only really feels affection towards asuna and this "harem" idea becomes obsolete because when it comes to romance, asuna is the only one he cares for. plus, by the other girls who had also fallen for kirito complain that he's always getting all PDA w/ asuna so yeah... as far as 'intimate' moments with leefa and shinon, they both had problems and he really was just trying to help them. i'm not sure if shinon actually feels any romantic tendencies toward kirito anyway, but if someone's been emotionally scarred all their life, giving them kind words and a hug doesn't necessarily mean romance. PLUS: (big one) IT'S %^&* ANIME :) When it comes to a genre with the most weird, impossible relationships, anime takes the frickin cake man
Agree with the DxD although I have high tolerance so I stuck with it. It would be far better if it wasn't so ecchi heavy. Regarding SAO the break down is; Suguha - Yes she crushed on him but he shot her down and she's working on getting over it. Pretty much has. Silica - Had some moments that got her embarrassed but I wouldn't call it crushing. Sinon - Has more admiration than anything because of what's he's been through and how he handled it. Liz - The one who really has a crush. Was in the middle of confessing and he did turn her down in a nice way.
There's Ordinal scale to prove that they really love each other, although you might be right at some points but Kirito would die for Asuna (for a guy who loves being solo so he can avoid emotional pain, he took that risk and trusted Asuna) And Asuna who was always there for Kirito during his good and bad times (In Ordinal scale she tired so hard to remember the memories she had with Kirtio during SAO, she never gave up on him) The most important part is that, they were there for each other all the time and they always trusted each other (You will hardly see people nowadays trusting and being there for each other)
As a writer I think your points are invalid. The character developement is actually pretty good. They both get along well. Me and my girlfriend got along the same. Starting hating each other, ended up loving each other. All your points have no real arguement behind them, some of them are just assumptions
Emiliano Ur right I mean like there are so many moments that prove that they do love each other for eternal. It all started when Kirito taught Asuna that a day in sao doesn't mean a day wasted in real life, but a day won in sao. That was just a spark already. Then with the murders in the safe zones where Asuna talks about the pros of getting married in the game and later on another spark when they saw Griselda's ghost. Later with their dinner at Asuna's place yet another spark and by that time from 'frenemies' to close friends. And then in against 'The gleam eyes' I saw Asuna actually really worried for the first time when Kirito is soloing the boss. In kuradeel's trap Asuna followed Kirito out of worry and saved his life, then Kirito saves her's by sacrificing his hand and a lot of sparks happen wich lead to a kiss. Then when they got married in the woods they spent all day together doing fun activities and even found Yui, who sadly got deleted by the system. Then when they head back to the front and say goodbye to the fisherman Asuna talks about how Kirito gave her a reason to live and how much she loves him. At the end of sao against the Skull Reaper Asuna sacrifices herself for Kirito wich causes him to go super saiyan on kayaba and kills him at the same time kayaba kills Kirito. They leave sao together in each other's arms saying once again they love each other. In Alo Kirito is 24/7 busy with saving her from Sugou with a lovely reunion at end with the two and Yui. When they finally meet in real life in Asuna's hospital room they kiss once again. Later at the school Silica and Liz are always mad cause they are together ALL THE TIME. In sao 2 in Agil's bar Asuna's tells him how much Kirito means to her life and later does everything to convince het mom to stay at the school she is now meaning staying with Kirito. And at the end of sao 2 Kirito builds a cam binded to the virtual world so Yui can be with them even in real life. This is also used for one of my favorite characters Zekken ( Yuuki Konno). Later at the picknick Asuna tells Kirito that she would follow him across the world to be with him. In ordinal scale their together all the time as well and Asuna is broken inside when she hears that her memories from sao are fading away. When Kirito finds out he goes rampage on the sao bosses in AR events and Eiji (rank number 2) to get as many points as possible to get stronger. At the end when they fight the floor 100 boss from sao entire Alo and Ggo help Kirito with the fight. Even Asuna jumps in while being told not to go and almost gets the killing blow using 'Mothers rosario' but Kirito gets it and becomes rank 1. After the bosses are defeated the former rank 1 (Yuna) gives Asuna's memories back. With a beautiful meteor shower at the end the two gaze to the stars arm in arm. (Keep in mind that at first Kirito was super bad at ordinal scale)
Honestly I love Kirito as a character, but I hate their relationship. I'm not that big of an Asuna fan anyway. The only big moment with her character is in SAO 2 in the Mother's Rosario arc. Other than that, she's pretty much been on the back burner (minus her in Ordinal Scale). I love Sinon much more as a character than Asuna because she has such a more impactful moment in the series and interacts with Kirito better.
I can relate to the whole love avoidant style. I've lost a lot of friends in my lifetime & it didn't leave a huge impact on me. But when I started dating my best & only friend that I had a connection with, I started to feel like I was truly happy. He shared some personal information because he trusted me but I didn't do the same because I was still scared to open up to someone other than a counseler or therapist. I grew more distant because If I asked if he wanted to hang out together, he would say no & I would feel rejected. We didn't even fight or anything, I was just too scared, of what you may ask, even I didn't know. Ever since I found out he was moving away, I decided to breakup with him, I even remember how I did it: "It's not Staryu, it's Starme". I even still remember the last thing I said to him: "I will never forget you". After he left & I realized it, It didn't actually hurt. But after a few days it hit me HARD & I sank into a deep depression, up to the point where it became suicidal. I'm much better now but I never truly got over him. If there's two things I learned in life it's that don't get too attached & nothing good lasts forever...
While 16.5 is just fanfic, they do have sex while within SAO. Both the anime and LN just skip over the details although the LN hints at it better. In the anime, he pokes her in the cheek while sitting on the edge of the bed but in the LN, he's in bed with her and he wakes her when he runs his finger down her back.
16.5 is not fanfic. It was written by Kawahara himself and had to be cut out from the official release of the light novel, so he released it online for people to read. Also, not only did the video obviously state that they didn't go over light novel content, chapter 16.5 took place rather far inside the Aincrad arc.
Chapter 16.5 _is_ indeed a fanfic...written by Reki Kawahara himself. I'm pretty sure it's been considered not entirely canon (they did have sex, but not as shown in Chapter 16.5)
I think that they actually spend alot more time together than you think :|, Again they have to make the series interesting and full of action so they wont show much of the time asuna and kirito spend alone together.
Exactly. Something people often overlook is that between events, days, weeks, occasionally months pass by. I've heard some people call SAO a 'slow burn'. I can only imagine how slow of a burn it would be if each episode was a 'day-in-the-life' episode. Not to mention how long it would be (SAO S10).
The stupid one here is you. Time jumps within series are quite common. Not just within anime series but live action series as well. It also happens in movies.
Three reasons. 1. He's a solo player. SAO is a game where xp is divided among the players. So he gets 100% of the xp per mob as well as 100% of the loot. He uses is beta knowledge to get a head start on others. 2. More than a solo player, he's a solo clearer. He's not the only one and it's pretty much seen by others as suicidal and crazy. The mobs in the dungeon are veteran class. Meant to be beaten by groups of 4-6 players. Solo isn't impossible, I myself in GW2 have completed a few dungeons on my own. Something that is critical is having multiple sets of gear with different stats. Kirito carries multiple set and in the anime he is shown switching gear a few times. 3. A lot of time has actually passed in just those few episodes.

I agree with many of the points you raised. They had a very strong foundation for their relationship, which I still believe should be the emotional core of SAO. However, the author decided to quickly move away from Aincrad, throwing Kirito into exciting and novel situations. Whether this was to subconsciously appeal to a younger or gamer audience or to help sell the series as more than just a romance, this terrible waste of a chance at creating something actually meaningful is why I would never recommend SAO.
Kirito is dying:"those are the intense experiences that make us feel alive" It's funny to think about the irony and agreeing with you at the very same time.
Ordinal Scale kinda disproves a lot of this and love works in many ways, just cause their relationship started from intense moments doesn’t mean they’ll need them to love each other. Plus he was told to go into GGO from the government to investigate legitimate murders...who’d want to tell their significant other that they’re putting themselves in danger, especially when involving life or death.
actually, I think it's worth analysis, but that the romance was just some kinda "popular concept" that was first introduced like every anime does but I just see that as fanservice. Their relationship is not different and doesn’t need the be analysed to understand. But that’s just my opinion
What is love? Well you can't say because you obviously don't have anyone that loves you (besides family) So you can't talk. Kirito and Asuna are obviously in love XD they have multiple things on it and ITS WHAT MOST OF THE SERIES IS ABOUT! Anyways have a nice day XD
Ayy, more anime Story You Never Knew's! *EDIT*: I think it's completely wrong to analyze only the anime, and not the light novels when determining their actual realtionship. In the "progressive" light novel series, they have much more interactions than what is actually assumed in both the light novels and the anime. But its not a bad video idea though. I don't expect you to read that many books.
There are no differences between the anime and the manga, only cut parts. This is why their relationship feels so forced. (I mean, its still rather forced in the novels, but the anime kind of just went overboard)
"Cut parts". The Anime is not the same universe as the light novel. Several events happen in the light novel that don't happen in the anime, that doesn't make them the same universe.
Except... no... that's not how it works? Previous events INFLUENCE future events. If you suddenly remove these previous events, the future events simply make no logical sense. He fucking married her after meeting her for like 3 weeks when they haven't seen each other for 2 years.
To be fair, aside from the fact that lots of people haven't read the LNs, I felt like he didn't want to cover it because of _that_ chapter. But considering how small a chapter it is, he coulda just said that "they did the diddly doo" and moved on.
