Cheers was brought to a different place when Kirstie joined the cast. It kept the show going for several more years and was very good

Shelly Long quit Cheers after 5 yrs. Then Kirstie took over her role in 1987, until it ended in 1993. It had an 11 yr run.

@@kevinmalone3210 Thanks I knew about Shelly. Kirstie came along and took it in a different direction and helped it survive that long. Thanks for the timeline though. I liked them both. My mother always liked Diane better though and felt the show was better with Diane.

@@lorraineb.4698 I preferred the Sam/Diane years because I loved their chemistry and romance. Ms. Long and the writers knew that storyline had run out of steam. By 1987, she had a young daughter, and was in her late 30's; the window of time for her being to play romantic leads was closing. Her departure was a blessing in disguise for the show and the cast. Kirstie Alley's personality was a great fit for the cast and crew. She was a brilliant comedic actress with a flair for physical comedy. We'll never know what would've happened had Ms. Long stayed, but my prediction is there would've been a couple of more entertaining years of Sam and Diane adjusting to marriage and parenthood. Rebecca gave the show "legs," and allowed the writers to run in a variety of directions with a cast already firing on all cylinders.

@@lnl3237 It sure did. I also felt with the Mary Tyler Moore show it moved in another direction with the Sue Ann Nivens character after Rhoda left. Sue Ann was an excellent character and it let her shine. It was like they were 2 different shows. Same with Cheers
@lnl3237
@lnl3237 Год назад
@@brookehanley3659 Brooke, we have similar tastes in television. The Rhoda/Sue Ann analogy was just perfect. So grateful that Cheers and the MTM shows are still part of my daily viewing. Just watched the Cheers Thanksgiving food fight episode the other night, and can never let too much time pass before I have to revisit "Chuckles the Clown" classic.

Still in shock. I always had hoped she'd go back to her gorgeous dark hair. It made her pretty eyes pop! Love how she talked about her buddy relationship with John Travolta. I bet they had a blast making the Look Who's Talking movies. Just eerie how George Segal(who played Mikey's biological Dad in the 1st movie)also died not too long ago this year. Weird, & sad. I enjoyed them both,& they were a part of my growing up, in movies,& sitcoms. I first saw Kirstie in a short lived series called Masquerade, & enjoyed her Gloria Steinham portrayal in made for tv movie: A Bunny's Tale. My favorite is still The Village of The Damned re-make, & Runaway w/Tom Selleck was a campy, but, good thriller. I have to get Veronica's Closet on dvd. She made me laugh so hard in that show. R.I.P.🙏🏻, Kirstie,,&...Cheers! 🍻
