IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE I HAVE HEARD SOMEONE SPEAK THE COLD, RAW FACTS!!! THANK YOU, GENE SIMMONS, FOR TELLING THIS COUNTRY THE TRUTH THAT IT NEEDS TO FACE & ACCEPT!!!!! I AGREE WITH HIM 100%!!!!!
I GUESS IT WAS ALSO THE TRUTH TO BUTCHER THE THOUSANDS OF LANGUAGES AND DIALOGUES THAT WERE ALREADY HERE WITH GODDAMN ENGLISH! LEARN TO SPEAK CORRECTLY! He says learn to speak correctly and thinks everyone’s going to listen to a dude that likes to dress up in heels and clown makeup.
@@poiewhfopiewhf Because it's English-speaking people in the United States who endlessly coddle immigrants and allow millions to enter the country illegally every year (since Biden took office, anyway). It's often done as a means to take advantage of them and groom them for a particular political party.
Once again, Gene Simmons is dead on target. He's pretty much echoing what the late U.S. Senator S.I. Hayakawa, from California said 30 years or so ago: "Bilingualism is o.k. for an individual, not for a country".
Move to Italy, learn Italian. Move to France, learn French. Move to Spain, learn Spanish. Move to Japan, learn Japanese. Move to Russia, learn Russian. Shall I continue or has this gotten too complicated?
He is right. what are you going to do if you can't even talk to anyone... I am an immigrant and learned english and it's not that hard once you're living here. So just fuckin do it
to add to your point, we have google translate now that helps fill in the gaps as we learn another language. God bless it, saved my ass when I was visiting Mexico. because I MUST learn spanish to communicate with Mexicans.
He is correct. My grandmother came from Mexico and only spoke Spanish, but learned English and spoke it without an accent. She still spoke beautiful Spanish though. Bottom line, she would have agreed with Gene 100 gawdamned percent.
I think a lot of old school Mexican immigrants would agree. My great grandmother who spoke Spanish didn't have the chance to learn much English. But she damn sure made sure her children could.
Gene is absolutely right. There are people living in this country who can't speak English at all. It makes communicating very difficult. I had someone show up in the drive thru at work the other night who couldn't understand that we were closed for the night. I told this guy FOUR TIMES and he still didn't understand. If you intend to live in a country where they speak a different language, then you should make an effort to speak that language. In some countries like Canada, you have to learn and understand the language spoken there in order to qualify to become a citizen.
@@DJ-bp2in Obama got in despite not having been born in the US. Gene would be voted in by a landslide. He wouldn't have to use any underhanded tactics.
I agree, I live in Miami and I feel like I am in another country. It should be a requirement to become an American citizen to speak fluent English. I don't care if anyone has an accent but they should speak our native language. When we visit other countries we either take a class to learn some of the language or we bring a dictionary. We don't expect people in countries we visit to speak any language but their own. I worry if I have an emergency when I am out working or shopping that nobody will understand what I am saying. I love diversity in our country and have friends of different nationalities. I lived in Boston most of my adult life, it is a very diverse population there and everyone spoke English. We have to require immigrants to assimilate. I am Jewish and I read Hebrew and primarily listen to Hebrew music but I wouldn't play it in the company of people who don't understand it.
The interviewer reminds me of Piers Morgan. When you go to LIVE in another country, just learn the language so you won't be lost. Gene makes complete sense. He's not saying ONLY LEARN ENGLISH, just have it stored with the other languages you know. If you're from France & only speak French, learn some English before coming to America. THIS APPLIES TO VACATIONS AS WELL. LEARN HOW TO SPEAK THE NATIVE LANGUAGE.
Gene......YOU are a GOOD MAN! I've been following your band since February 1974!!! I had the honor of catching you guys October of 1974 at the Riverside Theatre (Milwaukee). YOU EARNED AND DESERVE the absolute BEST in life. It was a very touching story YOU told about your MOTHER and the National Anthem. JUST Beautiful!!! Thank you Gene!!!!!...for the music and your attitude!!!
My mother was born in 54 in Monterrey down deep in Mexico. Her family then slowly immigrated to Nuevo Laredo, then Laredo Tx. Eventually to west Texas Pecos. Years later my mum made it to Odessa. My mother lived through prejudice and sexism during the 70s 80s and 90s. She had a son in the 70s and then had me in the 90s. No husbands. No welfare. She had to work 2 jobs before she became a registered beauty technician then barber after that. She learned and perfected her English through watching her favorite American soap operas, movies, and music, when she could she would read english all with the help of two huge books of Spanish to English & English to Spanish translations. My mother was a smart immigrant a dedicated Americana. To think Texas is home to so many Latinos who make so many excuses to not learn English after living in this country for decades a damned travesty. Gene is absolutely right.
My grandparents left Europe because of World War 1 and Communism. My grandfather's native tongue was Czech. My grandmother's native tongue was Ukrainian. Yet, after immigrating legally, my grandparents settled in New Jersey, got jobs, and learned English. The Slavic languages are among the hardest languages to learn. The Slavic languages my grandparents spoke were far more dissimilar to English than Spanish was. Yet, despite often having to work up to 12 hours a day, and raising two children, my grandparents made time to learn English, and attended weekly English classes. They were proud of becoming Americans, and brought up their children to become responsible, productive citizens.
Gene should be listened to....... not because he's a famous rock singer, but because he's an immigrant and a college graduate and teacher. He's telling people hovv to succeed.
When I worked in Atlanta there were a lot of Vietnamese immigrants, I would always ask the younger ones that spoke english to translate for me to the older ones that didn't speak english. There was a young fella 17, 18 yr old and I asked him to help me and he said he couldn't when I asked him why he said because he didn't know the Vietnamese language as his father forbid anything but english in his new home.
Yes you do, it's basic courtesy. I won't assume anything about a tourist visiting America without much English knowledge, but if you're living here and can't bother to learn the language you are lazy
I don't think you have to go out of your way to lose your accent but learning the language if you're going to live here only makes it easier for you. I applaud anyone that has because most Americans only know one language and even that one we don't do too well on. You will know two and I find that an amazing undertaking.
Umm, I don't know where you live, but it's standard for kids to learn another language in school now. It has been for awhile as when I grew up it was that way and I learned another language starting in first grade, which I learned all the way through high school and then chose to continue it in college (which most colleges have language classes for kids to continue their language courses or start learning yet another language, meaning they would be starting on their 3rd language!!). Even my Mother had language courses in her schooling, which was during the 50's & 60's. However, I don't think it was as standard then as it is now. All the schools in my area, public and private, have language courses as standard. Some schools only have 1 language as an option (mainly public schools), whereas others they have options for the parents to chose which they want their child to learn. Not to mention a lot of families in the US speak the language of their family roots, we're all immigrants here.
Mariah Longest It's not standard where I am. That's South Carolina. I try to keep up through my nieces and nephews and while they introduce them to higher math a lot earlier than they did for my generation, a extra language isn't something they've been pounding into them. Around here it starts to become an elective somewhere around the 7th or 8th grade and you can continue to learn it your 9-12th grade years. Which I think is a huge step in the right direction. Back when I was going you had a extra language as a elective starting about 9th grade and could take a follow up class in the following years. More years to learn it and get it drilled into your skull where you don't forget it sounds like the right way to go so if your area is doing that great!
@@mariahlongest7465 I have never heard of this, and I grew up in Louisiana. We had language as an option beginning in High School (9th grade - 12th grade). In college, it's common to take two years of a language for a degree; however, many people opt to take ASL (American Sign Language) to fill that requirement, as it is fun, and much easier as a beginner (b/c it IS still English), but it is obviously not a spoken language, so wouldn't be counted as one in this context.
OMG I LOVE YOU GENE SIMMONS!!!! he was spot on!!!! Learn a language correctly, yes it's going to be difficult but it's worth it, I'm learning 2 languages at the same time no big deal
One of the few occasions Gene makes a good valid point. I spoke French when I lived in France as it was remote and very few people spoke English, even in the 90's.
'Assimilate' is the key word. If we are all on the same page, we can all work towards the same goals as a nation. When immigrants came from the old world, they all strove to assimilate...and America became the greatest nation in the world. Unification makes a nation strong.
Well, He is not wrong. I'm a mexican moving to the US LEGALLY, I am learning to use the imperial system, I speak the damn language and I will be singing the national anthem for the immigration interview. If I was moving to Japan I'd be learning freaking Japanese, Bowing and Learning to drive in the right seat. If you are moving outside of your home country, the country you are moving to has no obligation to acomodate you. Gene is giving away the keys to the kingdom here for free and he is a man that rarely does shit for free.
Gene, you speak 100% truth! My relatives came from Germany & Norway! LEGALLY! To get all that America has to offer, learn English and then you can speak YOUR language AND your language. Be respectful coming into the country you get to enter. I would do that IF I moved into ANY other country. You don'thave to CHANGE to speaking English, just to blend and get the most out your new country. Amen!
WOW! A reference to antithetical reasoning ("So you agree I'm right? You used a double negative: if something is 'not wrong,' then it must be right."); this dude is from another realm, VOTE GENE 2016.
I'd never thought I'd say this, but Gene Simmons is absolutely right! and what the hell's with tje moderator? he's putting in all the bad ideas into ppl! get rid of the liberal media, #MakeAmericaGreatAgain! #Trump2016
Gene is totally right! Again. Can we go to another country and not speak their language and get all benefits ahead of their citizens??? No!!! Here in the USA speak our language, learn our culture.
I'm brazillian...I think my english is pretty good, but there's a huge difference between learning english when you're young and when your're an adult...Je parle français aussi...
I agree with Gene on this subject. Has anyone ever had to handle business over the phone and had to speak with someone who has a strong accent? I hate it. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and say "Look, I cannot understand one word you are saying", but it is quite aggravating trying to handle business with someone who does not speak clear and proper English. You are right on the mark here Gene! I agree 100%!
He`s absolutely right! I`m a legal immigrant from the same country, Hungary and I learned English on my own. You have to respect the country what giving you an opportunity to have a good Life.
HuffPo is very uncomfortable with the idea that people from other countries have any responsibilities when coming to the United States. Their view seems to be that anybody who comes to the US is entitled to... equity, I believe it's called now.
@@poiewhfopiewhf The youtube app has translation features. All gene is saying is that to truly assimilate and fit into the country you have to learn English. Otherwise, your ability to navigate and simply live in the States will be difficult. It’s fine to not know english when you start immigrating here. However, if you don’t learn English it’s very hard to manage yourself in society. Communication is very important
Gene Simmons has said it all and I am a Boricua. The man is absolutely right. The least that immigrants can do to show appreciation of America is to learn the language and culture. Simmons is a brilliant man.
I LOVE YOU GENE!!! I do have to say.....almost everyone around the world speaks English (Russians, Ukrainians, Syrians, AFRICANS, Asians, Europeans KNOW English) EXCEPT SOUTH AMERICANS!!! I work in retail and these hispanic women don't even understand if I ask them "do you have a return or purchase?' or "would you like to purchase a bag for your items?" In NJ, we have to purchase bags, no more free plastic bags.
I was born in America, my mother is now legal here and speaks English to people everyday. I gotta admit, I agree with gene here to an extent because English will help you so much in America much like French would in France right? Furthermore, Spanish tv like Univision is Catholicism crap that is very Herero dominant and has a show about the Virgin Mary that try's to be relevant in today's issues. Did I mention that a random rose comes out of nowhere in every episode as though the Virgin Mary left it there...
Well said ! Gene Simmons is 100% correct. You come to the US, you need to learn to speak English. When did it change ? This interviewer is as annoying as H.
He is not being politically correct, but I think he is right, my parents came as immigrants with out speaking a lick of English but both learned and they were Adults!!
I was born in Colombia, South America. I speak English and Spanish fluently. With better grammar than those native born. We are not feeble-minded nor fragile. Stop making me or others walk on eggshells. Assimilate. Go Gene Simmons!
I agree with you they don't wanna do that they want everything handed to them while my great grandfather who came from Russia had to fight for everything he got mean while my polish great grandmother almost lost her citizenship for marrying him
I think he's right. I think immigrants should learn to speak English, not for our sake, but for their sake. Since English is the primary language spoken in public in America, it would be really beneficial to learn the language. Don't get me wrong, I'm not of "Immigrants, speak English!" kind of person. This is America. You have the right to speak any language you want, especially in your own home. My grandpa's parents were from Slovakia. The only language my grandpa spoke until the age of 4 was Slovak. However, he and his siblings spoke English as their primary language when they got older. Also, with today's technology and resources, it's easier now to learn English than it was back then.
This was one of the best interviews Gene Simmons had done he really showed his intelligence. I never could get on board with the guy that interviewed him he just acted as if he didn't get it
it really makes me mad when immigrants don't speak English here. when I was stationed in Germany, I tried to learn the language and it definitely helped me ordering beers.
My parents came from Asia (different countries, both of them) to live a better life and prosper. Both had to 'Learn Goddamned English" because its what got them by. Thats how my dad became an RN, that's how i'm getting an education, in an English speaking environment. Certain things DO need to be multilingual though I will admit. Hospitals being one of them.
Agreed. I know it’s difficult, but if you’re gonna take the benefit of a country one should without doubt learn the language and the culture. All good to keep and be proud of your heritage, but if you’re gonna live in a country and take the benefits, say thank you by learning the language and be respectful to the customs.
Gene's coming at this from various perspectives and his argument has multiple layers, but one of them is definitely this: You can make more money in the United States if you learn to speak English fluently with a minimal accent. You can't argue with him; the man knows what he is talking about! He's just plain correct. He's trying to help peope maximize their wealth, plain and simple. He's your musical guide to financial success and he'll probably catch all kinds of shit for it.
Who gives a shit about what he's "implying" or the "tone"!? Sometimes people need tough love. And the truth stings sometimes. And that's ok. Love this guy, Gene.
I've always loved KISS. But I've generally been disgusted with Gene's political views (especially since he occasionally degenerates himself into a FOX "news" puppet). But for Christ's fucking sack, he makes a real good point here ! I've had a number of jobs where the majority of the workers primarily speak Spanish (which is fine as I'm half Hispanic myself). But everyone should at least be able to understand the same language for the meeting at the beginning of the shift (or there is chaos like the retarded biblical story about "the tower of babel").
Alot of people need to see this today. I don't care if people speak there own language. But if you live in America you have to know how to speak English! If myself or someone talks to you. You need to be able to know what we're saying. It makes life so much easier. I don't know how to speak French or Spanish but I have no intention on going to either country if I did I would try to actually learn the fucking language.
Even as a blue liberal, I believe he’s correct. We all need to assimilate to create a cohesive community. Then, you can practice your identity, culture, religion freely and privately.
