I was amazed when KISS did Makin Love on the End Of The Road Tour. Killer track. You are definitely right about Baby Driver. It is Peter at his worst vocally. Thank God he got another shot with Hard Luck Woman. The drumming by Peter, on Love Em and Leave Em is amazing.
I would say this was the best of the KISS albums, as far as the overall quality of every song. they didn't feel rushed, or like filler. I'm not a fan of Ladies Room, but loved all the other songs. I think See You In Your Dreams is possibly Gene's best song with Kiss. Mr. Speed is one of my favorite all-time songs, even though it was an outside song brought in by Sean Delaney, and worked over by him and Paul. My main aggravation with this song, and I don't think most realize this, is that evidently they used the original demo track and over dubbed, and that track was not quite recorded at the same speed as the rest of the album. In order to play along with the album, and not sound out of tune, you have to de-tune your guitar about 10 cents. I've heard the Bob Kulick solo from the original demo, and though he is a better player than Ace, technique-wise, but Ace's solo FIT THE SONG better, I feel. This album and Love Gun were twins, I felt, and which one is my favorite trades off daily, lol, but I do absolutely feel that the RARO songs were more individual, each had its own personality.
@Danielraymilligan I'm with you 💯% except for one song. I love Ladies Room but could do without Take Me. That is my least favorite. Calling Dr. Love rocks to this day and Hard Luck Woman is a fantastic fit for Peter.
Baby Driver Rocks You're crazy.. awesome guitar fills throughout the whole song...unlike every kiss song made. Love em and Leave em Is my favorite though. The guitar lead is just incredible. I like see you in your dreams for the cool little guitar licks....but it could be better.
Rock n Roll Over was my Favorite Kiss Album for some time. And its still pretty high on my list. Hard Luck Woman ist one of my favorite Kiss Songs. But love Baby Driver too btw. :P
Aw man, Baby Driver is my favourite tune on Rock and Roll over. Peter's screaming with passion, the guitar riff in the choruses. But I get it, Kiss fans' tastes differ. Love and Leave 'em is ok. Ace's solo is the best thing about the song. The toggle switch effect at the end of the solo is Tits! But, I would give it only three stars. I hope one day we can still be friends.
@@jaysonnorman8955 there is a HARD ROCK reverie Facebook page, actually. In fact, that's how the channel started - as a Facebook page. But there's no one there now, so I can't remember the last time I posted anything. If anyone joins that page I would gladly start posting again, though!
I still need to watch your ranking video for all the albums. As for where you put the album I think it's a fair placement. I'm sure we've talked about this album before but you and I have pretty close rankings for the songs overall. I also agree that the second side is better than the first. I do disagree on one small point - after going back and listening to it, I get Baby Driver. It lends itself to a sleaze/sludge style, perhaps a lost Motorhead track. It might not be the best thing Kiss ever did but I do totally get the song and I have a hard time being down on it. It's still the "worst" song on the album but for me I guess that speaks to the strength of the rest more than anything. It might be a bit dirty production-wise for Kiss as compared to the cleaner tone of their other heavier songs but I can easily fit this in with other stuff I listen to. I'm sure we can discuss it over beers at some future point in time. Cheers.
Rock and Roll over is just ever so slightly my favorite of the first 6 studio albums, I don’t dislike any of the songs. I completely agree with Take Me, it’s a great song, I used to go to a campground in Cape May, NJ, they had an arcade with a jukebox, it had the single of Take Me, I played it a lot. I agree with your love for the Double Platinum version of Hard luck woman, I love the delayed drum intro so much better. The cover is excellent, totally iconic. Interesting fact is that the (Columbia, Rca ?) Record club version of the cover has a “Tear” on Paul’s eye, that’s kind of cool. Great video, thanks for your opinions.
Yes, I've seen photos of the "teardrop" cover, but sadly never seen it in person. It is a fun little detail, though, which gives people a reason to flip through the KISS vinyl in a used record store even if we already have a full collection. It's so hard to try to rank those first five albums. I could make arguments for any of them as #1, honestly. This is just where they felt right THIS time.
@@HARDROCKreverie I completely agree, and never fault anyone for their choices. If any of the first 6 (or some beyond) are their #1, they have great taste in music.
Many of the songs were demos for Destroyer that Bob Ezrin rejected. When listening to those HORRIBLE demo versions and knowing how great they turned out on RARO, I believe Eddie Kramer is to be credited for a lot of it.
