Unedited KISS band interview filmed for USA Network's Yesterday And Today special in 1983. I got this on a VHS tape in a trade with another KISS collector in the late 1980s. I transferred it to DVD in the early 2000s.
I'm a Canadian Recording Artist, and KISS had a huuge impact on my writing style. You probably couldn't overstate their impact on the music scene. One of rock's greatest acts.
I totally agree! 👍 Love them or hate them, no one puts on a more dazzling rock show than these legends! 🤘 Garth Brooks also credits them with being an influence on him
I don't know why, but I like seeing these dudes joking and messing around before the interview. Paul singing, Gene in the zone with his tongue, Eric smoking his drumsticks, and Vinnie cracking some jokes too, I just like seeing these dudes laid back with the makeup on.
@@brogan71 And I payed $ 6.85 to see ZZ TOP, REO SPEEDWAGON and a band named TROOPER in 1975 in Norfolk, Virginia . Now that would not even be close to buying a beer .
I paid $13.00 for a ticket to see Santana and was front row,Carlos was in front of me by six feet ,and that was back in 1997. Brian Howe and Jackyl were opening acts.
That's almost double what the tickets were just a few years earlier, so it's very understandable that people of the era, myself included, would complain about that...in the 70s, you could see the show for $7.50...so yeah, that was quite a jump in a time when minimum wage was under $5 an hour...
I respect that Paul Stanley wanted 100% every show. I heard he had a doctor freeze his vocal chords, when he blew it out touring, so he could still sing with laryngitis it's just crazy how much he spoke and sang for hours on end
A nice birthday present!! My favorite formation, because it was with her that I met Kiss. I love, love and love so much. Thank you for sharing this treasure❤️🥰😘😘😘
While the original lineup will always be the true KISS lineup, my favorite was when Ace was still there and Eric had just joined. Eric and Ace seemed to mesh well musically and personally plus I like Eric's drumming style over Peter's though Peter is a good musician in his own style. I give credit to Eric and Vinnie for revitalizing the band and molding them to the modern sound rock music was going towards. They were faster and heavier sounding. Plus I appreciate that they had their own personas too, the Ankh Warrior and Fox makeups and outfis were great additions as I never liked the idea how Tommy and Eric S use the Spaceman and Catman makeup when thats not who they are. Short-lived but great additions. Who the best guitarists and drummers are will always be debatable but this was a good lineup for its time.
Big gamble taking off the war paint not long after this. Eric Carrs thundering drums, and Vinnies talents really revived Kiss. Maybe not to the peaks of the 70s, but definitely kept them relevant.
Poor Paul and Gene have been telling this same old "Beginnings Of KISS Story" for over 50 years. I've known Paul since 1988. I asked him if it got old. He told me how Elvis was asked if he ever got tired of singing the same songs every time he performed. Elvis said, "Actually, I've been fortunate enough to still love singing That's All Right Mama + Heartbreak Hotel. Otherwise, this would be no fun." Paul said he learned from those who went before him. 👑
I agree. As far as originality, Vinnie and Eric's makeup is much cooler than Paul and Gene. Paul should have stuck with the Bandit. Gene's is OK, but not as scary as they want.
Portland Maine (on the barrier in front of Gene, so like 'front row'); and Worcester Spectrum, Worcester MA. The EricVinnie band was amazing! The lean-mean setlist was awesome, and the deeper-darker 'sound' for all the songs was THUNDEROUS. (Firehouse stayed, Hotter Than Hell gone. Calling Dr Love stayed, Christine Sixteen was gone, etc). Eric was a monster! Vinnie was a RABID scorpion! Got the signed Creatures photo at Strawberries Worcester.
(After that, I was the same line-up on the Lick It Up tour, five times: Stafford, England; Glazgo Scotland & front row at Ed-in-burra Scotland; Worcester Massachusetts; New Haven, Conneticut. Met, talked with, photos with, autographs with all at Stafford, all at Glazgo, Vinnie at Worcester).
I'm over both of you.! Missed Creatures. They were all over Upstate NY. So was I.!! But wanted sumthing closer. Under 2 hours. It was Wintertime and a bad one at that. That never happened.! 3 friends from school went. Saw their concert jerseys the next day. Thought Vinnie looked amazing.! Caught Lick It Up tour up there tho. 45 min away.!! Go figure..
Creatures the true return of KISS! I saw them in Glens Falls where I live ...we met Vinnie sans makeup at soundcheck! Great guy! The Wiz! Amazing show!
Even though the band took the make up off if they had put mark or bruce in makeup what would we see today had they never taken off they just gave every new guy a identity would they be around today
Anyone know if they had planned to take off the makeup by this time? This footage is interesting because it was such a transitional period. I think it's safe to say they were probably at a commercial low in the U.S., but Lick It Up was just around the corner!
gene is really boring , truthfully. compare this to the 79 tom snyder interview of how to actually interview for televsion. gene joked about preparation h, and it went over like a hemorroid.
Vinnie may be a good guitar player and songwriter but was a giant pain in the ass to Paul and Gene. so much so that they fire the S.O.B. twice. Bruce was the right replacement after Mark St. John tenue with KISS was cut real short. Vinnie looks kind of bored but his persona was a pretty cool. it a sad shame that P&G diecided to not give Eric S. and Tommy their own persona for familiarity reason. Paul resented and did really felt unconfortable with new members new personas in his autobiography. IMO ditching the make up I believe may have been an excuse to put an end to the continuous revamp of new characters. plus, when they band was starting to sound more heavier and due to Eric drumming style being different Peter's jazzy drumming style. Eric gave the band an extra added punch to the band. Vinnie, Mark, and Bruce brought more shredding compared to Ace who isn't exactly a shredder.
@@raymorrow170And Ace was constantly falling on his ass (luckily they figured out how to make it look cool), to which he himself has admitted. What’s your point? Bruce would run around stage and do various other things. You don’t see it much on recordings because they would only focus on him when he was soloing and standing still.
