Bone on bone is very painful, just ask my knee. Mine was fixable, but this poor horse didn't have that luxury. Thank God for the Last Act Of Kindness. I know it isn't the desired outcome, but it's necessary sometimes. It's a blessing for those in chronic pain with no quality of life. There's no point in letting them suffer. Thank you, Dr. Nancy and HP. I love y'all.

I’m bone on bone in my spine too. I’m in horrible pain all day every day. So I understand how he feels. My doctor back in 1994 told me I couldn’t work anymore. I had 4 jobs at the time. Which included taking care of 150 acres of tobacco. I told him I had to work because we had just built a house. He said, and I quote, “If you were a horse they would’ve done shot you.”.

Bone broth and other foods (yogurt, fish, blueberries, plums and various anti-inflammatory foods) can help rebuild cartilage and reduce pain. Supplements like MSM, GSM (glucosamine), Turmeric (curcumin), Biosil are used by many (including myself) for chronic pain and collagen enhancement. I would recommend meeting with a naturopath or doing online research to help your back issues. (And some bone health and/or arthritis issues relate to parasites so a parasite cleanse could also help). May God bless you.

My former boss had an Arabian colt that slipped on concrete. He injured his spine. This happened before I worked for her. I took him out to groom him and let him relaxin the pasture. H tried to kick at e when I brushed him and bite me when I comb his mane. I went down his spine slowly watching his body language.I spoke to the owner about his behavior. She ,like me in the dark about the colt. She called the vet. The vet found out the bad news about the colt. He had to have the last act of kindness before he was 2.

I know that some people don't understand why you give last act of kindness, that they think there's things that can be done. But they don't understand the pain these horses are going through, that surgery is not really an option.

I have a pinched nerve or something going on in my lower spine and the day to day pain can sometimes be unbearable. Unless someone has dealt with it personally you can't understand what a mercy it is for these poor animals to stop their hurting when there is nothing that can be done medically to fix them.

@@sometimessiri.8559 I've got pain issues and chronic illness and life is torture. I certainly wish for a quick and painless departure. At least these animals leave this world loved. If they are going to slaughter ,what do people think they are destined for other that death plus torture on the way? I commend these organisations that try and give them better medical care and mercy and a chance more than many humans even get in this world.

This is so sad and upsetting to see a young 6 yo being so mistreated, all for the sake of mammon the money god. Now that the animal is injured, mistreated on a race track and no further any good for the owners she is getting kicked out and no longer being cared for. This world has become such a sick place where satan and his demons rule. Makes me want to puke. Racing is hell for thoroughbreds. 70% of the foal crop of any given year will eventually go to slaughter and the incidence of catastrophic breakdown at the track is heartbreaking. Being born a thoroughbred is too often a death sentence due to training to young and working them too hard and throwing them away when they're no longer bringing the money. I own an off track thoroughbred, and it took years to correct the problems that training and racing caused (she was retired at 3 due to osselets). She's fine now, retired, and safe for life. Please folks, don't support thoroughbred racing. And, KEEP YOUR HORSE!!!

Thank you for all you do! And yes, a horse that has behavior issues should have a thorough evaluation. As a first time horse owner of an Appaloosa, I was told he was misbehaving. Something in me denied that. I asked the vet to X-ray his spine after he kept focusing on his legs. Sure enough, KS. He had a ligament desmotomy done under standing sedation in 3 places. He was 8 years old. He is now 12, and other than the bump you mentioned, you would never know he has KS! I considered putting him down due to pain, but he was young with no other health issues.

Thank you for not letting sentimentality interfere with your duty to this poor boy. People underestimate horses' pain so often and think that where there's life, there's hope. That's not kindness, it's selfish. We need to stop riding horses young, stop racing and rodeoing them and never exceed the 20% weight carry limit. Then there will be far fewer poor cases like these.

A poor older mare at my boarding stable has kissing spine and was "rescued" from an obese male rider. I put rescued in quotes because she's now being underfed. I'm doing my best to educate her new and inexperienced owner. It's an uphill battle.
@Terry-lh8cn
@Terry-lh8cn Год назад
@@googlewhyforwardfaqforward4076 The horse doesn't need euthanasia. Because of circumstances at the barn, this inexperienced person wound up in charge of deciding who got fed what and when. (Not mine, she got fed properly.) I did the best I could to correct that. (I've rescued starved older horses.) Thankfully a person with 40 years of experience will be taking over this week, and she will straighten it out. Unfortunate that this occurred at the worst time of year. How is it none of her fault? It's absolutely her fault.

It is so sad the way thoroughbreds are just tossed aside if they make money or if they don't. This is the only part i hate about race horses there are a few who let the horse live out his remaining days where he lived and trained but for the most part there is no loyalty to the animal who makes you money one way or another. Kissing spine is calcification of the spine blades isn't it? Dr Nancy, where it has been rubbing causes calcification on the blades of the spine. It must feel the same as having degenerative bone or disc disease. in a human,, which is also extremely painful for humans, sometimes they can wire the bones together, so they are no longer rubbing together, is that similar the the kissing spine or would you grind back the bone to fix the problem? Dr Nancy. I know the kissing spine is able to reduce the likelihood of the bones touching. Dr Nancy you are such a great person your explanations make perfect sense. Poor Animay, give him a gentle hug from me sorry its goodbye. He knows you are saving him bless him. He will be in a better place soon. God bless Animay and take good care of him. run wild run free Animay.

That has to have been hurting for a long time. It sounded like had there not been other issues, it might have been possible to try to fix it, but back surgery in humans usually has a long and somewhat painful recovery even when the patient can follow the aftercare instructions. That's not something I'd want to put a horse through.

Thoroughbreds are broken and worked at to young a age , its a disgrace especially in the racing industry, its all about cash , inbred depending on the pedigree s , it's all about winning races, often these horses are only yearling when broken n raced , 2 year olds are regularly raced under different track conditions , horse arent mature until 4/5 year old , the majority of race horses have short lives before being slaughtered after being pampered !

This would be a good time to bring up that most disgusting and inhumane sport "big lick" I think that's what it's called, where they put these blocks , nailed to their front feet, and I believe they somehow cut the top of the tail . Living in a very caring country where cruelty is monitored and policed at all times makes me wonder how a country like America is allowed to getaway with this abhorrent cruelty. The horses are stuffed in a very short lifetime. The looks of pure pain and despair are evident to see. Unfortunately I live in Western Australia and cannot do anything but voice my disgust at this activity. The people who are true horse lovers should all be voicing their disapproval to the government of America to stop this.
