it's glitch, it's microhouse, it's minimal techno, it's IDM. all of the above, none of the above. or maybe it's just Kit fuckin Clayton! that's what matters.
well the thing is when this was released we were all on the "wow check out how much these beats and rhythms are being fucking smashed" style, where as now there had been so much boring "idm" and shit the last 20 (yes 20, fuck) years its like now we are all like "wow check how dancy this shit actually was".
Some would even call that trip-hop, doesn't matter so much... It's got plenty of groove, nice textures and could be dropped on the dancefloor with great effect I reckon.
Quite unbelievable that MTV used this track for a commercial, I'm curious to know who was the man behind such decision... of course one with nice taste
Funny how terms and musical "cultures" change. This was considered "IDM" (I hate that term) And now there's music being produced very similar to this, referred to as microhouse, or sometimes being confused with minimal techno. It's not bad. No "masterpiece" though.
@hoptenon Electronica isn't a real genre. Since this track was released on the most famous Glitch compilation of all time, I'd say it falls firmly into that subgenre. Another couple of amazing artists are Kashiwa Daisuke and Ametsub, if you like this style of music.
