To get the chocolate I use a conditioner, then tried and true polymerized linseed oil, then shellac, then grain filler then finally spray with a 2k satin. It all goes pretty quick. It has the Rubio walnut (gold and deep chocolate) look which everyone loves but has a hard 2k on it.

Nice! We’re going for more of a natural walnut but need the shellac to pop the grain.

Interesting, Jeff. It's all about cost versus time management while still producing a quality product (which you always do). Thanks for giving us your perspective. Bill

I love what CNCs can do, but I don't like cabinets made on a CNC. Nothing beats good old fashioned custom built-ins. But, with tight time schedules, I get it.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
For all intents and purposes these cabinets are exactly the same. Actually I’d say superior because of the blind dado construction! But I understand the dislike of CNC vs doing it yourself.

@@TodaysCraftsmen Thats interesting. They just don't look as sturdy, especially without nailers behind the back. I also use 1/2 inch for backers on upper cabinets with 3/4 nailers. So, I tend to overbuild. When I'm doing a job for a client, I don't want a single wobble or any racking whatsoever. Sure wish I could find a good supplier of that walnut plywood. Best I can get around here is prefinished maple.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
Most CNC shops want to do full 3/4” backs because then you’re only dealing with 1 type of material.

@@TodaysCraftsmen That makes sense. I can barely spell CAD so I dang sure couldn't program it. LOL. I want to get one of the shaper origins just to add some different levels to my work. That seems a better starting point. You know us old dogs......new tricks and all.

Those shapers are pretty cool. We’d love to have one for certain situations.

Great video. Did you have to layout the dimensions for the cabinet installation, or was that done by the designer/architect?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
I designed the kitchen from my own measurements. No designer or architect involved!

Never liked useing those stickers to identify parts. It seems to take longer to peel them off than to assemble the cabinet . I didn't see any holes predrilled for screws , any reason ? How do you treat the underside of your uppers.? Lookin good pumping out the work.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
These stickers actually come off easy and clean. We’ve had ones that were a nightmare for sure. Upper sides have the bottom edges edgebanded and the bottom goes all the way back to the wall. We add a light rail so it’ll all be covered in the end anyway. The CNC guy didn’t drill the screw holes all the way through 😬 He’ll fix that for the next one 🤦‍♂️

@@TodaysCraftsmen Ah yes the CNC guy always gets the blame! I always blame it on the software or the machine. Do you happen to know what software he uses?
@TodaysCraftsmen

He’s getting the gcode right from Mozaik.

Another great informative video on cabinet builds and the various options. Are CNC cabinets less expensive than the custom cabinets that you would build in your shop? You mentioned project timelines as being a factor in going to CNC. Are there other pro's and con's of using CNC construction?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
Thank you! It may be marginally cheaper dollar for dollar doing it yourself vs having it cut. The beauty is that it frees me up to do other things.

So if the cabinet doors date or get damaged. Can u swap them out down the track?

Yup! That’s one of the advantages to euro frameless for sure.

Could you share a ballpark price per cabinet that the CNC shop charges?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
You can expect to pay around $100/sheet plus material for CNC parts cutting. That’s in the Northeast at least. Some are more, some are less!

How carefully do you "exact" color match the edge banding to the door color if youre painting sonetbing itber than white? Imagine youre using a PVC edge banding, so you go with a color thats close enough, or does your banding rep have a color match table for reference?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
Our edgebanding supplier only has matches to all of the big laminate companies. If it’s a very distinct color we’ll try and find a very close match. Worst case scenario we would have to paint the edge banding but that would definitely be a change order. We’re using Wilsonart Frosty White on this one and the door are Benjamin Moore Dove White.

Shop staff! Greene St is on the up! CNC cutting is such a crazy advantage in the right situation. You think might invest in one yourselves? Or are you feeling burned from your laser cutter experience? Yes. Pun intended.

Haha burned? More like charred to a crisp 😂 I don’t see a CNC in this shop but down the road, yes.
