Installing a Lazy Susan can be intimidating. Although it's a little fussy, it's not beyond your capabilities. In this video, i show you how to install the lazy susan hardware in our corner cabinet. It takes a little patience, but with a few tricks, and someone to show you how it's done, you can master it in no time.

Great self-made template idea!! Thanks for the inspiration... I used your idea but modified it slightly since I was installing my (full-round) lazy susan in an upper corner cabinet. Worked perfectly though, and the wife couldn't be happier. I'm happier too since I am sure your video saved me some aggravation. Cheers!

Very glad to hear! That makes these videos worth it when i hear a great story like that. There was one error I made, and it's that you don't have to reverse the template, you simply left it straight up and never flip it. I still get nervous doing these videos, so i wasn't thinking, and never corrected it. Thanks again David for posting! -Pat

i have a very old cabinet i'm wanting to update, including replacing one of the broken lazy susan shelves, do you have a video of removal? it has the doors on it still.
@HomeEvolutionShow

A video for the removal of the lazy susan? no, not specifically for that. However, most lazy susans should be the revers of the install shown here. Sometimes they are different, but same principles. Good Luck and thanks for watching. -Pat

U could have placed the template on top of the cabinet and drilled down for the top holes. Thanks for the advice.

Great video. My kitchen installers put in my wooden rev-a-shelf lazy susan which looks just like this one (except it is wood). The top shelf is rigid and swings fine. The bottom shelf is all wobbly. Any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it?
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 7 лет назад
Thank you for watching. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong. It's difficult sometimes to diagnose problems without actually seeing them. If the bottom shelf is wobbly because it's "loose" it may be that you have to tighten the set screw to keep it fixed better to the post. If it's wobbly in that it spins fine but just seems to not be level, it could be a couple of things. Perhaps the wooden shelf is warped? perhaps it was attached/tightened down at a slight angle, or perhaps the mechanical connection where the wheels spin is not aligned properly. Hope that helps some. -Pat

Could you please tell me what the metal piece that holds the top shelf up is called? We just moved into a home with a lazy Susan like this, and it was installed incorrectly, so I'm looking for a replacement part. Thank you in advance!

OK ... I was hoping this could show me something I'm doing wrong with my established lazy Susan (installed 9 yrs ago). My top shelf keeps sliding down the pole, despite how tight I set the screw. My hardware is the same as yours, the metal disk that goes under the shelf. My pole also turns ... not sure it's supposed to do that. What can I do? I even put the lightest items on the top and within the hour, it has slipped at least a inch. I have bottles on the bottom shelf to it from sliding all the way down. any suggestions? I've tried putting tape under the disk as well - didn't work.
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 9 лет назад
ou91bobcat Sorry it took me awhile to get back. I'm always hesitant to give advice over the net when i can't really see the issue for myself, however i can give you a couple of things to try. It's odd that tightening the screw down doesn't solve the problem. But if it is truly the issue, you can try to drive a self-tapping screw through the pole such that it penetrates. As long as it's the pole that moves (so both of your trays move simultaneously) it should not be a problem. This would probably be my first choice. An alternative would be to mount something else below the top tray on the pole, like a metal hose clamp. It's thicker than tape, and should catch the screw. You could also try a thicker cable tie also, wrapping it around the pole just below the upper tray. Let me know how it goes. Hope those help.

I have notice alot of base cabinet is constructed to sit flat on the ground itself with the a step in toe kick. My question to this method of cabinet building is what will happen to the cabinets if their was to be a water leak and the floor got all wet ...
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 3 года назад
all standard base cabinets are built this way. Yes, you can have "floating" base cabinets that don't touch the floor, but I've never seen them in a kitchen. Most of the time, if you catch the leak in time, it won't damage the plywood. If it's sitting in a puddle of water for days, then yes, they will start to delaminate. If you are truly concerned about water, then it's possible to build a base that's 3.5 to 4 inches high out of material that is water resistant, like PVC "boards". then don't add the toe kick, shorten up the cabinet height (by making the cabinet itself 31" tall, and set them on the platform. We do built-in cabinets that way.

Where did you get the metal lazy Susan hardware?
@HomeEvolutionShow

Sylvia Barclay Hi, here's a link: www.amazon.com/Rev-A-Shelf-5472-32-Premiere-Kidney-Shaped/dp/B00099H5YQ/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_cw?&linkCode=waf&tag=diyhomebuiltw-20 note that you can get 2 sizes, the 28 and the 32, the link is for the 32" which is the one i used. it will directly impact the size of the cabinet needed, unless you are building it oversize. Thanks for taking the time to watch and post.

it is great to offer the helpو but in min 2:00 you should not flip the templateو it should be at upper position as it is in lower positionو so you just move it from bottom to top keep the orientation as it isو no flip.
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 7 лет назад
Yes, that's true. I thought I had corrected that. Sometimes my mind is racing ahead, and i do something i don't intend. Thanks for pointing that out. I will add something to the video to correct it.

I'm having so much trouble; I've had to step away from my project. I just bought a new top shelf for my lazy susan and there are no instructions for disassembly and/or installation. I go tthe whole thing out and am having trouble putting it back in tthe cabinet.
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 8 лет назад
+MostestMeri Sometimes you gotta step away. I just spray painted something for the third time and there's still something that bubbles out. So i'm with ya. What's giving you the trouble? is it holding it in place while you tighten down the screws? I'm not sure how your lazy susan is put together but usually they rest in a base flange and are held up by a similar flange screwed into the top?
@MostestMeri
@MostestMeri 8 лет назад
+DIYHomeBuilt Thanks for corresponding with me. So I am trying to take the whole thing apart completely and put it back together again. Yesterday, I removed the the top shelf and the post, with the bottom shelf still attached. I was unable to remove the rotating gizmo on the bottom. I was so determined to get this done myself, (I am THE HOUSEHOLD MANAGER after all) but from a physics perspective this makes no sense to me how to fit the two shelves on the pole given the angle of the cabinet and the size of the shelves. Unless I can get the base off, it seems I am going to have to cut the pole, or, call a professional.

the lazy Susan is 1/4 inch off in a 6 inch span. we cannot get them level. any advice?
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 8 лет назад
+Sheila Plowman I might, but i'm still not 100% sure what's going on. First question: Is the floor 100% level? Second question: If I assume the floor is level, and the cabinet sits on the level floor, are you saying that if you throw a level across the top, the top is not level? is that where it fades 1/4" in 6"? in which direction? Third question: is the cabinet plumb? meaning if i place the level on the sides, vertically, is the bubble in teh middle of the vertical vial? If you want you can go to our website: www.diyhomebuilt.net and get my email/contact. and send me a picture of what is off.

I do like the chrome basket 'look' (etc.), but it won't really go with a mostly wood, or 'traditional' cabinet mileau &/or design (I.e., rich-warm colors of stained wood just doesn't 'jive' with the chrome [IMO]). I assume there will be numerous other such chrome pull-outs, etc., and maybe chrome shelves ('chrome/tech/industrial look') elsewhere in the kitchen? For those on a budget, and intrepid DIY-ers, or anyone not favoring the cold 'chrome/tech/industrial' look, there are many lazy susan mechanisms as alternatives, which also use ball bearing mechanics, which go under wooden or traditional-format/material platforms (e.g., that can easily be cut out by the DIY-er). Such under-shelf bearing mechanisms can handle hundreds of pounds, but are also much less expensive than the 'chrome/tech/industrial' kits, and & without the need for more than 1 per cabinet. I'll be using a (wood) closet rod and shelves with such a lazy susan base mechanism, already purchased on-the-cheap at A'Zon. I don't expect it to be very complicated, but we shall see (lol)... Thanks for posting this info / vid ;)
