In this video, we install the doors to our lazy susan cabinet. There is also some discussion as to what is important in making the doors, as well as some of the specialized hardware.
If you haven't done so already, post a comment below our free t-shirt video for your chance to win a free one. You can post here (you don't even need to watch it :)) • DIY Home Built FreeTsh...

Another very helpful video! I don't plan to install a lazy susan but I do plan to install bi-fold doors on an upper corner cabinet to give me access to much more space. I've been a little worried about how to, so I again very much appreciate the video.

Whippetfest Hope it can help some. These details can be a little tricky, but they are manageable. Thanks again for watching and posting!

Could I just use regular 105 degree soft close hinges @ the cabinet face frame? I'd like to have soft close, and I don't really think I ever open my lazy susan more than 100 degrees - it hits the neighboring cabinet if I do.

I’m struggling with a lazy Susan now. It’s an old style and I cannot find the part for sale anywhere. The door is actually connected to the 24” round metal shelves. So I removed it and I’m building it from scratch. It’s in a rental so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

I'm doing inset doors. How do you measure the width of the doors for a pie cut cabinet? Where can I find Inset hinges for a pie cut cabinet?
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 9 лет назад
+burton b Hi. you measure the same way you do for overlay EXCEPT you do it from the inside edge of the faceframe and you DON'T add the extra 1/2" or whatever for the overlay portion. so you measure from inside faceframe on left, to the outside of faceframe on right and vice versa. I would leave a 1/16" - 3/32" gap on each side for expansion if using solid stock for the doors. regarding the hinges, if you mean concealed hinges, they make them for inset doors as well as overlay doors. Just google "concealed hinges for inset doors" and you'll find a bunch of reputable sources. Just remember though, you'll have to make adjustments of there is a recess between the edge of the faceframe and the inside side-wall. Let me know if this is clear. If not, I can draw a picture. Thanks for watching and taking the time to post.

Hi, thanks for sharing. Quick question...how far off the edge of the stile is the bore for the bi-fold hinge?
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 3 года назад
sorry for late response. The bifold hinge cup is actually "off" the edge of the stile. Imagine a circle with a chord near one "side" (look up geometry of a circle). So if you were drilling the bifild hinge cups yourself, the drill bit would be slightly off the stile. Let me know if this helps!

I have the same problem as Deborah. HOW do I measure how far in do I drill the hinge holes for the centre hinge? Deborah Burbank 7 months ago A very good video, but it failed to answer the one question I have, so I'll ask you directly. You obviously had your hinge holes drilled before you made this video. I need the offset distance to drill the hole on the edge where the two doors meet. The hardware we purchased had NO installation instructions whatsoever. Any help here?

Are there any hinges for doors that do not have holes in them?

what kind of wood and stain makes that color and style of appearance? Awesome looking color and woodgrain
@HomeEvolutionShow

It's Cherry, with MinWax stain called Red Mahogany. For the Cherry wood purists, i'm committing a capital sin by using anything other than a clear coat :). But the customer is always right...

How do I remove internal Brevettata internal lazy susan hinge to replace it
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 3 года назад
to remove the lazy susan itself? it depends on what kind you have. For me, i would have to unscrew the top flange and adjust the height slightly and i can slip it out. Does that help?

Hi Pat, Thanks again for producing this video and the entire series. I check daily for more installments from your channel because I always end up learning something useful. Also, you never know - once I finish my own kitchen I might want to try my luck in the cabinet building market. In your upcoming pricing video, it would be great if you could include some advice about how to go about quoting people for a kitchen build.
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 10 лет назад
Harv Thanks Harv, for the kind words. I'm glad people are able to pick up a nugget or two now and then that they find useful. I think it would be totally awesome to start your own cabinet building. I don't do a lot of kitchens as a rule, but do more built-ins like book cases, etc, though the principles are the same. Regarding pricing, ugh, i could write a book. It's an art, more than a science. I price my work 2 or 3 different ways, and then generally average them. It's a longer process. Perhaps i'll do a pricing video too, because pricing your work applies to just about anything you do, whether it be woodworking, welding, boat-building, etc. It would be interesting to know what people thought the market would bear for these set of cabinets. What would you see them costing if your ordered them from a manufacturer? That way you'll test my pricing methods :) Thanks again for the support, kind words and taking the time to watch and post. Truly a great community here.

Is this Blum hardware and does the hardware make any noise when you close the doors?

where do i get the plywood? I have checked homedepot and Lowes and have had no luck at all
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 9 лет назад
Jeff Olsen HD and Lowes don't carry it where I live either (that I could find) though others have said they do. I get mine a a specialty hardwood store. I have to drive a bit for it, but worth it. You'll have to do some research for plywood distributors. It's unfortunate, but it's not as easy to find. If you live near Chicago let me know and i can send you the name of the place.

My wife and I are looking at new cabinets where in the corner base cabinets of 24" depth meet cabinets that will be around 20" deep. It seems like this would prevent use of a lazy susan, is there something else we could use to maximize the corner other than just leaving it open shelving?
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 10 лет назад
Steve M Yes, there are many options, though i've not personally used them all. First, you might not be totally out of luck with the lazy susan, as they come in various sizes. I used the largest possible size I could (32") which required a larger cabinet, but they do make smaller ones (24"). Those may very well fit within your constraints (but please check the specs to make absolutely sure). Second, there are alternative mechanical pullout hardware solutions for blind corner cabinets that might help. they tend to be on the expensive side, but they do exist. If you do a google search, you'll see images of what i mean. Third, there are alternative construction methods altogether, like blind corner drawers, but those tend to waste more space. Let me know how it goes, and thanks again for watching and posting a great question.

I can't get the door to snap onto hinge!
@HomeEvolutionShow
@HomeEvolutionShow 8 лет назад
do you mean that you have installed the hinge plate on one door and installed the hinge on the other one, and you can't get it to join? You have to either press really hard, or there should be a small tab at the end of the hinge arm that you can lift up. If neither of those work, you may have a defective hinge. Let me know if that works. -Pat

what do you mean almost? I know I'm verbose (and sometimes proud of it)...but we're ramping up to make future videos, so I'll try to cut the speech down a bit, and DEFINITELY overhead cam!!!! Thanks for the comment!
