After a look at an early 18th-century kitchen cupboard at Old Sturbridge Village, a "living history" museum in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Norm constructs his own version from pine featuring open shelves above a base cabinet whose door sports an antique-style hinge. He shows a pattern to draw the curved outline of the side pieces, then uses a hand-held saber saw to make the cut, saving the cut-out portions to make shelves. Using a molding head cutter on his table saw, Norm demonstrates how to add a decorative bead to the shelves.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ru-vid.comUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

By gluing in the shelves aren't you keeping the wood from being able to expand and contract?
@ElectricGears
@ElectricGears Год назад
Not in this case. The pieces it was glued to (the side panels) will be expanding in the same direction so it doesn't matter. It would matter if the grain orientation of the side panels was horizontal instead of vertical. In than case you would want a bit of glue right at the front of the shelf. This kind of cross orientation is inevitable on at least two sides of a table or raised panel door. That's where the need for not gluing parts comes in.

What happened to all the furniture he built?
@erikleorga

Some went home with him, others went to the show's creator Russel Morash, and some were built once for either a This Old House client, or someone known by the producers.
