Blake, from MACkite here! This week we are going into the hooked-in raley. This trick is super fun, quite easy, and a staple for many more tricks to come. I've been doing this trick since I learned to pop, and it's been one of my favorite, easy go-to's.
Step 1: Keep the kite around 45 degrees. As you can see in this video, sometimes I will send it slightly up tighter to get some extra height, however, that is not necessary. The main idea is to keep the kite parked and rely on your load and pop.
Step 2: Let off your edge. Letting off your edge allows you to get tension in the lines to get the maximum height out of your pop.
Step 3: Edge hard into the wind and pop. After you have let off your edge, ride hard into the wind and pop to get as much height out of the jump as possible. This will allow for you to get the board behind your head and back in time for landing.
Step 4: Lean forward and kick your legs back. Leaning forward allows your legs to get up and behind you, which is essential for a raley. If you do not lean forward, your legs will go back, but your torso will hold you in an awkward position. It's all about the swing in this trick. Kicking your legs back initiates the raley.
Step 5: Spot your landing and swing back. Spotting your landing allows you to see how much time you have in the air until you need to swing your legs back in. This is important so that you don't wait too long to bring it back or swing too early and over-rotate the trick.
Hope you enjoy this video and trick. There are many variations to come!
Stay safe and have fun out there,
Blake

Great tutorial. Anyone who aspires to do an unhooked Raley should start doing pull-up crunches on a bar now. You should be able to do at least 3 sets of 5 on a static bar before hoping to do one unhooked Raley flying through the air with a powered up kite.

What's your view on sheeting in the bar when going downwind, then sheeting out the bar when going upwind, and then sheeting in the bar again when popping, as I've seen in other instructional videos?

Hey Philip, that works as well! A bit more technical but does helps get the most pop.
