In this video, Tucker from MACkite reviews the new 2024 Slingshot NXT V1 wing for wing foiling. He provides an in-depth look at the wing's performance and features after several sessions in varying conditions.
The NXT V1 boasts several key features: a rubberized front handle that doesn't soak up water, lightweight and stiff for better control in the surf, and a leash attachment included with the wing. The wing also has removable hard handles with an ergonomic triangular shape for better grip and control. It's compatible with a harness line, which Tucker suggests for experienced riders to manage the wing's significant power.
The frame is made from Alula material, offering lightweight and stiffness, allowing high pressure and reducing flutter. Windows are strategically placed for visibility without adding significant weight, and the wing uses an HP valve for independent inflation, ensuring faster and easier setup.
Tucker describes the NXT V1 as more than just another high-end wing. It's accessible to a wide range of riders, from beginners to advanced. The wing is well-balanced with a wide power band and isn't overly grunty, making it suitable for various wind conditions. It’s designed to be used powered up, performing best with a properly sized wing. The wing handles high power well, doesn’t deform easily in gusty winds, and provides a comfortable and intuitive ride.
The Slingshot NXT V1 is ideal for everyday riders, including free riders and wave riders, not just professional racers. While it’s expensive, Tucker believes the performance justifies the cost for those who can afford it. He compares it to the Duotone Slick DLAB, noting that the NXT V1 offers similar stiffness and lightness but with slightly more grunt.
Tucker highlights the wing's versatility, making it a valuable addition to any quiver for various riding styles and conditions. The main drawback is the price; however, the performance and materials justify it. For those on a budget, the Slingwing V4 is a good alternative, offering excellent performance without the premium price tag.
In conclusion, Tucker highly recommends the Slingshot NXT V1 for riders looking to enhance their performance and enjoy a versatile, high-quality wing.

Great review! How about the longevity of Alula? Is it still that bad over time especially when too much in direct sunlight? If so , this should get mentioned for any Alula wing.

Yes, the flaking gold outer layer issues seems to be resolved now. Not that it was a major problem except for looking ratty. As with any wing, avoid unnecessary UV exposure and pack it away dry. -Tucker

So upwind and speed is better with aluula?

Yeah less drag. With double canopy upwind and speed are even better.

Depends on the wing but typically, yes. The Aluula frame is stiffer which translates to a more consistent air foil and power transmission. Because it's so much stiffer you can also build it with narrower bladders for less drag through the wind and more effective canopy efficiency. -Tucker
