This breed will always be funny to me because of the time I was telling my Japanese friend about werewolf. I had been asked by someone else in my gaming group if there were other changing breeds, and I delightfully went through the breeds in the back of the W20 book. When we arrived at Kitsune, she began to laugh and asked “Why are they called Foxes?” She saw I was confused and elaborated, “Kitsune just means fox. The Weresnakes are named after a myth, the werespiders are named after a God, but theWerefoxes are just called Foxes?” Probably not that funny but her delivery was hilarious.
I like the idea that them looking for their place in the world is their purpose. With the world being different and Gaia being weakened to the point that she can't directly give orders to the Fera. Most of the Garu find themselves in a war where the old ways just don't work anymore. So once the Kitsune find their purpose they can teach the other Changing Breeds how to find their role in this new world. Also I really want to get into the roleplaying of the game [because I'm loving the lore] so what books do I need?
The best books i have found on the changing breeds and werewolfs are the CRB 20th anniversary edition. From there i would get the changing breeds book, and then the umbra velvet shadows. Thats a good start.
Well I've played a Kitsune Doshi that found his path which was maintaining the balance of Gaia and the Wyrm also he managed to reverse the corruption on enough black spirals to being back the lost pack though they are low in number.
The multiplication of the lifespan is a very useful feature, but the lack of regeneration balances it very tough. It is realy uncomfortable to be potentially immortal, but at the same time always realizing that in this world everyone can pierce you with there claws and each such time can be the last. Kitsunes are foxes that can TRANSFORM into humans. The way we do it is by putting a skull on our heads and holding a bone in our mouths then dancing around. We can possess humans too. Every 100 years we grow a new tail. (WE ARE NOT WERE-FOXES!)
imagine this: a group of hunters where the members are: -a Kitsune who found their purpose in hunting vampires and other "evil" supernaturals -an imbued -a mage that creates enchanted and cursed items for the others to use -2 or 3 normal humans
I had played a Kitsune once in a WoD game. Though it was short lived as the Ferra I was partied up with were very distrusting of me despite my honest efforts of being sincere. Sadly it became worst when one of our members, a Glasswalker, fell to the ways of the Weaver and slowly but surely began to corrupt the others despite my best efforts to lead them back to nature. Eventually, plus with a lot of bad rolls, I decided to make a break for it and warn another group of the possible dangers of my former allies being Weaver controlled... and that did not end well for me either.
It could have been a good story between characters but from what you say it sounds like things were not handled in a good way. was this session fun for everyone or were there frustrations?
@@TheMapleTable It was a mix. It was fun for the first half while we were doing our group missions together. Met a Rokea for the first time while working together as a group of five to take down a Wyrm controlled bomb testing rig at the ocean. Followed by dealing with a serial killer known as The Man Slayer. Then had to escape, me mostly, from a Hunter that wanted my skin... I don't know if he was a Skin Dancer or some deranged Hunter but he was an extremely hard and scary nemesis for us for majority of the story run. It was during our individual arcs that things begun to fall apart, since we each were having our own missions and objectives. Our party of five was compose of this: A Glasswalker, A Black Fury, A Nuwisha, A Corax, and A Kitsune. Roleplay wise, the Black Fury and Corax were the hardest to put up with. Player wise, we all knew what we were getting into. Honestly, it was handled roughly, we the players got along, but our characters slowly devolve into this sad mess. My Kitsune had to leave in shame and despite him returning to the Beast Courts. He just felt immense shame for not being able to help them through that 'trial'. It ran for about 70ish sessions of 3-4 hours. Good times, but it was many years ago.
I play alot of vtm and I've been dipping my toes into werewolf apocalypse some. I think after listening to this video and checking out some other kitsune stuff I'd totally want to play as a kitsune
"someone always dies when a Kitsune is born" ...sorry, that math doesn't add up. There's no way you can enforce this sort of curse and have that race survive in the long term. Explain how this doesn't end the whole race in a few generations?
I did not get a chance to play him but I did make a character that was a Kitsuna. He was the product of a Kitsuna mother and a wild silver fox and she did have a human husband. Being a true form fox he couldn't be normal and for the most part treated like a pet learning threw an iPad and observation and using toddler toys in ways no animal should. When I started changing my mother taught me what she could. He was one of the most masterful masters of paper magic. Using it an ninja like skills making paper Kanata throwing stars and even flirting by making paper roses 🌹real. He was a bit comic relief being a mix of Jim Carie the mask and stitch from lelo and stitch. It was a real twist for the group.
If I ran the math right, a 9 tailed Kitsune's life span would be roughly around 25,600 years. Even if you're not actually immortal, you may as well be at that point! For clarification, I went with the generous estimate that a 1 tailed fox would live 100 years like a human.
Im spiritually a kitsune I'm a ice one I lost my fire long time ago but somehow it was still alive I just couldn't see it at first that's how I did it 😊
Yes they do! As well as power manipulators of reality (Mages) both have their own game rules in the same world setting. Along with the dead, and spirits (wraith the oblivion)
