There are 8 wires connecting the control box to the scanner bar. These 8 wires power one of the 8 light bulbs of the scanner bar. The additional yellow wire is ground, meaning going from the control box to the chassis of the car or a ground wire you can find, it's the same. The black wires as I mentioned were not not part of what KRW included in the package. They did include a harness for that but it was too short, that's why I made own, longer harness to connect the control box with the scanner bar.

Everyone has their own favorites. I like KRW for the authentic halogen trailing effect and the fact that I can hide the control box while still have the "surveillance mode" speed regulator close to the dash. But the finish of the control box and the scanner bar isn't the best. The paint of the scanner bar chipped off instantly as I touched it. Others love the ZA one that integrates in the dashboard electronics. It really depends on your taste and budget I think.

@@MotorScotti Advanced designs has the trailing effect with 8 55-watt halogen bulbs, remote, and a battery saving feature that cycles the scanner on and off for shows. Some of the stuff ZA makes looks nice, but is not accurate to the TV show.

Advance designs I think was the lectric enterprises... That guy was a pioneer on building scanners. He gave up business around 2010.

Very good question! Unfortunately it isn't legal in Switzerland. Just the fact that it is installed and functional is technically illegal, but that hasn't bothered any cop so far. I've only ever used it on empty country roads for the video footage shown in my videos, but I never use it in traffic.

I wouldn't know I've never let it run very long. Also the light bulbs generate a lot of heat. I've only ever let it run for a minute at a time.

@@MotorScotti a friend of mine is building kitt he said his bulbs are halogen bulbs within 30secs of being on they drain the battery

I think he will be changing the light to smd led

LED clearly uses a lot less energy. I just prefer the trailing effect of teh halogen ones, which is the only reason I haven't gone with LED, even if some of them are very good.

Yeah I saw your original comment this morning but it had disappeared as I wanted to respond. Don't know what happened there... Basically you can take any 1982 to 1992 third generation Pontiac Firebird to transform into KITT. If you get a later model year car it will usually be better equiped, but the 82-84 Trans Am are the ones that have all the correct body panels that KITT had. At the same time, these are quite rare and by now should be preserved original. Realiability? The V8's are very realiable (small block, they are bullet proof), avoid the V6. Get a car that's been serviced regularely if you don't want to break the bank. They are all old, so expect to have to change a lot of small a big things.

So far, I've been able to find two 3rd gen pontiac cars, the first one being a 1986 model and the second, a 1989 targa model. I would like to share some pictures with you. Where can I send you some photos of the vehicles? Why should I avoid the V6? It's interesting, because one of those cars (the 1989 model), runs on a v6 2800 cc engine. And one question: what do you mean when you say the engine is "bullet proof". I'm sure you don't mean that it is impervious to bullets :P. I just want to thank you for all of your videos, they've been tremendously helpful. It's hard to live in Europe and acquire all these parts for yourself and with you documenting all that work, you have made it easier for everyone who wants to do the same. You have earned yourself a new subscriber and I will definitely check regularly for any future ventures you have with your pontiac.

Once I get my hands on that car I will store it on me garage and do all the maintenance it needs. I expect to spend the next months working on it when i'm not away. I work as an engineer on the merchant navy so all the hard work doesn't "fright" me. Even if the engine is in a bad condition, I have a plan to disassemble it and take a good care of it. The only problem is that you can't find the spare parts that easy in Europe. :/
