Michael can pilot a helicopter amazingly well, is in no particular hurry, decides to jump off in KITT and just let the helicopter fly and randomly crash.

That's my favorite special effects cop out of the 80s. Have whatever you want to crash fly behind a ridge or a mountain and then detonate a explosive or blow some smoke with a exploding sound effect.

Despite some shots where it's obvious they're using stunt cars (like where you can see KITT with a round steering wheel), I just love how action sequences like these were done with real vehicles and helicopters and no miniatures. This is why I think Season 1 is my favourite season of the original Knight Rider series (even though there were a couple times where they did use miniatures). While Seasons 2-4 also did actual stunts, it felt like there were times where those seasons relied heavily on miniatures than real stunt vehicles. But at the end of the day, I still love the show.

I can only imagine all of the logistical complexities that were involved in filming all those stunt sequences, and the amount of safety precautions they had to take behind-the-scenes. And on a side note, apparently the helicopter used in this scene - registration N764CL - is still around as of today, according to a quick Google search, and has been using for filming in other movie productions as well.

Would've been neat to have a crossover with Airwolf for this one since the bad guy was using a chopper, with String perhaps helping out an old friend...the "old friend" in this case being either Michael or that lady or even Devon, with String taking out the chopper with a hellfire and being like "need a hand?"

I have to say that helicopter pilot was amazing ! Michael did a stupid thing to knock out the pilot but I guess that's how the director want it to be done . And then again the amazing pilot fly sideways like a crab . impressive indeed !!!!

I agree.Bring everyone back,the thing is everyone is older now,so i don't know if it'd workDavid has said he want to playbthe part of Devon with a son or daughter as the new driver for KITT. But as for Bonnie or April i don't know how they'd get round that.The same applies for KITT as there are only 5 of the original cars left so it could be a problem finding an original KITT.

Easily the best episode of the entire series, though S1E2 was almost as good. Both of these shows had an adult flavor that I loved as a teen and still watch at age 60 with just as much satisfaction.

Every time I start watching this clip, I think the same thing, "Why not just land the helicopter?" But then I realize that it's most likely, because of the overall series plot and what the show was ultimately about (bringing criminals who operate above the law to justice and taking them out of commission,) I realize that crashing the helicopter and, thus, destroying it is the best, if not only solution, in keeping the criminals from ever being able to use it again. That's my take.

Anyway, having been born in 1977, I grew up watching this show and loved every minute of it. So I was really sad when it ended. Several other commenters have said that there was a 2008 series. I didn't know that. I'm sad I missed it. I will have to see if I can find it and watch it to see if I would like it. I've been thinking of the original series for quite a while now, thinking how cool the technology would be if the series was rebooted in this day and age. But then I think of what the writing/scripting, acting, directing, producing, etc. would be like and determine it would all be crappy. Therefore, the series would be totally unwatchable. Oh well! A person can dream and hope...right?

Because it's a reused shot from another episode. They did that a lot during the series to save money. In the pilot episode the blew up a small private jet and then a season or two later they wrote a script so they could make use of the same footage.

I always wondered... there are two different options to open the roof. The one where the roof swings open (but then the top magically disappears) and the other one where the roof (glass) just slides over (I guess under the other roof).
