I would say to check out their 2 other singles. They purposely released 3 singles that show different sides of their music. “We Are Shadows”- A great showcase of cohesive songwriting from the Lander sisters. While consisting mostly of clean vocals, it still has that groovy metal music that has you banging your head. The chorus itself is beautiful and mesmerizing, showing how far Morgan’s progressed in her clean melodies. The bass lines during the chorus are also superb, proving Ivy to be the most solid and professional bassist Kittie has ever had. A great example of Morgan & Mercedes’ songwriting. Mercedes also adds perfect harmonies- just like how she added her badass death metal screams for the chorus of “Eyes Wide Open”. “Vultures”- almost a mixture of the 2 other songs, features Morgan’s scathing screams sounding their best, especially the way she enunciates the dark lyrics with such scorn and venom sends goosebumps up your arms, and the way she breaks into belting out the chorus is why so many love Kittie… That ability to go from screaming their heads off to singing melodies that sound akin to angels singing as they fall sounds so beautiful and hypnotic. One of the best things to happen to Kittie was Tara McLeod joining the band on guitar in 2005. The noodling and solos she creates adds elements to Kittie’s sound that helps them stand out even more so. She is a bluesy, classic rock guitarist, but after joining Kittie, bands like Pantera and one of her favorites Opeth, has helped expand her style. Everyone calls Kittie nu-metal, but really if I had a gun to my head, the best label I could give them would be a doomy groovy melodic thrash/death metal alternative dark rock band. Lol, no one sounds like them and aside from them being one of the most improved and underrated bands, that originality makes them one of a kind. Great review guys! Hope you do more Kittie- their new album ‘Fire’ is the best album they’ve created in their career.
