@tannewton Kiwi is the nickname used internationally for people from New Zealand. The name derives from the kiwi, a flightless bird, which is native to, and the national symbol of, New Zealand. The usage is not offensive, being treated with pride and endearment as a uniquely recognisable term for the people of New Zealand. It is also used for other purposes eg for the kiwifruit or kiwi.
Kiwis love to tell pollsters who regularly ask them that they are not Christian and don't believe in God. I'm not too sure about it now. In any case, as a Roman Catholic, I am proud my cathedral was the place where they could express their sorrow.
