That's why he loved her, she was still innocent, she was just a normal teenager (vampire of course) she had normal high school problems, her problems were lightweight compared to his and the way she relied on him. This scene shows it, he was in a bad mood because if his typical family drama and she came in with her teenage dress drama and brought a smile to his face and helping her is able to lighten his mood. She is cheerful and he of course likes to spoil her. He always had a soft spot for blondes lol, obviously with cami and Caroline it was in a romantic way but I feel it also has to do with his sister who he is so attached to and how she is his little sister and he spoils her but never wants to lose her. I'm not saying he's into his sister of course lol but I mean a lot of people tend to fall for people who have similar characteristics to people they care for. Kind of like when a girl says she wants to find a husband who is like her father, usually they mean it in the way that they want their husband to be a good person, good father, good husband, a husband who will treat her like her father treats her mother
