If you do not know the significance of Klaus Voorman in the story of "The Beatles" then you are not a true Beatles fan. He was there before they became famous and he was still there with them after they disbanded. He was a wonderful musician and a fantastic Bass player. He was the Bass player on many of the solo recordings released by all the members of The Beatles after the band broke up.
I like his bass playing! He’s excellent on Johns solo work. And he designed the Revolver cover. He was an early supporter and friend of the Beatles from Hamburg along with Astrid. A good guy! 👏🏻🎸😎
Klaus Voorman is a great artist and there is no arguing about that, but let's not forget his stellar career in the music business: as a bass player, he played with Manfred Mann, a couple of performances with the Hollies, then on the best solo albums by John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (basically all their legendary 1970s output, including "John Lennon\Plastic Ono Band", "Imagine", "All things must pass", "Concert for Bangladesh" , "Ringo", etc.), as a session man recorded with Carly Simon ( "You're so vain"), Harry Nillson, Lou Reed (Klaus played in "Transformer", Reed's most well-known album), and he produced Trio's "Da da da" a worldwide smash hit in 1981. Not bad, eh?
It's amazing how the stars align, this hugely talented artist/designer turning up with his girlfriend to see this strange band, become friends with them and design the front cover for one of their classic albums five or so years later, that sort of thing doesn't happen to us normal people.
@@robd1329 The three of them started to play together 1957 - and it was only 1963 when they go they first number 1 hit. So they worked for 6 years for it. And hundreds of people helped them to achieve their success.
What a wonderful gentleman I could listen to him reminiscing about his life and friendships for hours at a time. Thank you so much for posting this interview.
I still have my 1966 copy of Revolver I bought at age 9. The album was a little advanced for a 9 yo but I loved yellow submarine, I already had several 45s like Hard Days Night. The Beatles were fabulously famous back then, Ive seen no one reach their level of fame since. Kids at elementary school wore Beatle boots and had Beatle lunch boxes. I had a brown paper bag
What an amazing interview with an amazing artist (alsothank you to the interviewer), an amasing musician, beeing a unique part of the Rock`n`Roll story, an amazing & truely integrated part of the beatles story, priceless and treasured member of the beatles family, but above all such a great person......................We love you Klaus......
His sweet and kind manner reflects through his art and his music. In order to play real music, one must have an inert sensitivity and intuition for the connection to occur. he has all of that.
What were they, Astrid & Klaus, arguing about when he left and went down the street and discovered BEATLES! At 4:24 that for goodness sake song is almost certainly Hippy Hippy Shake.
I wonder if, had he lived, Stu would've eventually evolved to re-visit music as a side gig to his painting. Given the very avant-garde influences Astrid and Klaus would've continued to expose him to, it feels good to imagine Stu making artsy music that maybe would've been pre-cursors to early Bowie and Roxy Music . . .
Klaus could have easily been another Beatle. I respect his talent as a musician/artist so much that I purchased his 113/250 signed Revolver print that was actually very different from the actual Beatles Revolver release. Very much well worth it. Get it if you can.
I learned from Klaus Voormann two things - first during i read a contract i understand the half or nothing if i read it loud and talk to it i understand all what's written in the contract. second if you have this effect then you're a Dyslexic person. That i learned from him. Now i understand why i'm learning every time in school so bad maybe also a Dyslexic Person???
What was the argument about that he had with Astrid? then he was so excited that he ran back and....said what? that got her to follow him over and meet the Beatles(checkered jackets?)and he loses her AGAIN to Stuart? GEEZ this guy is EXTRA MELLOW!
What was the argument about that he had with Astrid? (unless this famous story is BS)Then he goes and sees the Beatles and gets so excited he runs back to her and says what? convinces her to go back that same night and loses her Again to Stuart! This is the first i heard of Stuart having bladder trouble! ANYONE HEAR OF THIS EVER?
How do you have a 50 minute video called, "THE BEATLES IN HAMBURG", and only talk about The Beatles Hamburg years for the first 15 minutes?? And in those 15 minutes, how is no mention of Pete Best was ever made???? Clearly, they deliberately avoided him altogether. Lame. Dislike.
