An exhaustive exploration of the ADSR features and behavior of Klavis Quadigy Quad Programmable Envelope Generator for Eurorack modular synthesizers.
Addenda:
• I didn’t realize until after the video was done that the PUNCH parameter is considered part of ATTACK for the purposes of the FULL ATTACK mode; so, with FULL ATTACK turned on, you’ll get at minimum the full attack and punch of the envelope; good to know
• I should have clarified that the time value of the HOLD parameter is relative to gate/trigger on, not relative to the end of DECAY
• I should have clarified that the HOLD parameter can be used in conjunction with gates as well as with triggers; with gates, the HOLD parameter effectively sets the minimum duration of the envelope (not including RELEASE)

This is how all modules should be reviewed/explained! I just got one and already feel familiar with it. Thanks a lot :-)

This is quite an envelope module. I think my favorite now, together with Zadar. But all the CV possibilities make it what Eurorack was invented for. Thanks for the demo.

Once people understand what it does and how, the answer is usually pretty clear, either way. Price certainly can’t be a factor.

Just got this on order after watching f your videos. I noted your comment about not favoring modules whose physical knobs dont reflect values and I also agree with that sentiment. However, my very first hardware synth was a minilogue xd and i was able to sort of tolerate that. I definitely think i’ll stay away from that concept in eurorack but i think the elements that allows the pass on this module are the LED faders. You immediately know if you’re at the value as opposed to having to slightly move the fader to get some visual feedback. At least then I know, “okay, what i’m seeing here is not what I’m hearing” right away.

Great overview, Martin. Can you tell me, when an envelope is set to Individual trigger mode, can Quadigy scale the total envelope length to an external clock? (Like the 4ms Pingable Envelope Generator.)

I don’t think so, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s not a feature I’ve looked for.

Hi martin. great review, since you own both the quadigy and zadar i have to ask you, which one do you think is more expressive and powerful? zadar seems more complex and have much more cv inputs. but the quadigy just seems to be more fun to play with. both have a ton of similarities and some differences... so i just find it hard to pick between them... i am looking for an expressive envelope that would be fun to play with in a "live" style way. what do you think
@MartinDoudoroffLLC
@MartinDoudoroffLLC 2 года назад
If you want expressive “East-coast” note shaping, it’s Quadigy all the way. No competition at all. If you want weird and wild fluctuating voltage for more experimental purposes, then Zadar offers a lot in a convenient and tidy package.

@@MartinDoudoroffLLC thank you so much, that is what i was thinking too, the quadigy is an adsr turnd surgical and zadar is just bonkers... so it's quadigy for me. thanks again and have fun wiggling

Thank you for this video! What an amazing module. Im new to modular, do you think this module can be used as an oscillator(in cycling mode)? Can it somehow through the cv input track pitch?

No, it’s not designed for audio rate use.

@@MartinDoudoroffLLC The main reason I want this module is for poly patches ,two of them for true 4 voice (in small package). So yes , I can live with some compromises and menu diving, if its possible to "link" all /selected env's . Other than that,its actually "sounds good" and come with nice features. This and CTG-VC & ADSR-VC2 that I have will make me happy for long time . Thanks again for the demo.
@MartinDoudoroffLLC
@MartinDoudoroffLLC 5 лет назад
You and I are on the same page: I got Quadigy for poly usage, too. I have a strong distaste for modules where the physical controls can get out of sync with their values. This is so far the first and only module of that sort I will tolerate in my rack-I think I can live with it.
@sharonsr
@sharonsr 5 лет назад
@@MartinDoudoroffLLC Exactly,especially with the assignable knob,where its possible to use it as "spread" to all 4 env segments , after initial settings.

Can you control length of each part, that is A,D,S and R with voltage control? If so how is it implemented as there only seem to be 2 CV ins? Thanks.
@MartinDoudoroffLLC
@MartinDoudoroffLLC 3 года назад
Yes, there are only two CV inputs. The CV matrix means you can apply either CV in any amount (positive or negative) to as many envelope parameters as you like. I’d prefer to see one or two additional CV inputs, but it’s pretty astonishing how far you can get with just the two plus the matrix. Very powerful.
