I was born in 1990, and I remember basically not having many rights at all. In high school, I had a Spanish teacher quit in the middle of the second semester, and we had multiple substitute teachers. We were given A LOT of just regular assignments, and we were told that they would be graded upon completion, and the lowest two grades would be removed. Truthfully, the last two assignments I didn't do because I kinda tired... other than my regular school requirements, I was in the schools honor band, full orchestra, preparing for solo and ensemble competitions, and I was scouting out colleges. So we got this one sub teacher, and she only graded four assignments and the only test we took (I passed the test.... barely, but by God I passed it). Basically I asked where are the other grades were and the teacher claimed that she lost them. She just didn't want to go through them because they were later found in her desk after I cam forward and reported the incident. It didn't cost her job, but she was removed from the class and sent somewhere else. She almost cost me my spring band trip.... however, I should have just done the work and I did take responsibility for that. The incident taught me to work hard no matter what. Why am I sharing this? Because I attended the same school district.

As a kid I remember if we did not listen in school we got spanked at school then turned around and spanked to home. And that was right here in Pasadena and South Houston Texas. Parents has gotten to soft these days. And as a 80's and 90's kid we had no rights but the right to speak when spoken to by an adult.
I find it funny how big Texas is on American Freedom until it's Not the KIND of free speech they want to support 🤦 Requiring someone to say a pledge to ANYTHING while they attend a school that they are REQUIRED to attend is the complete opposite of freedom of speech. Especially when the words are drilled into the kids to be recited back before the children are even old enough to know what they are pledging to. Pretty clear that the teacher who felt it was okay to bully a child is the one in the wrong here. Students ABSOLUTELY have a right to not be bullied by staff. Especially for exercising their American freedoms.

Are we all entitled to money owed to us by the school district? I didn't stand for the pledge of allegiance and I got suspended from school back in the 90s. I should get way more than this kid.
Your school violated your rights. It's been settled law since 1943 that you can't compel students to perform the pledge. It took this girl 5 years to get her restitution, and it's likely too late for you now, but it's something to remember for if you ever have children and they too don't want to stand for the pledge for any particular reason.
She will whine and complain about her rights when you ask her to do her job, then play the race card so you cant get rid of her! She's learned the system.

Part of the freedoms you cite are not to take part in a bizarre fealty oath. This has been confirmed by the Supreme Court, students don't have to engage in this pledge.
