I appreciate that you had it for a year before reviewing it. "I just got it this week, rode 50 miles, seems great!" Is less than helpful. Your experience is more valuable.
My wife had it on in the store and said it feels wonderful. Padding super soft and locking mechanism ingenious. How is windflow in cold weather ea. 50 degrees and lower? Does it block wind too in setting? I am rocking ADV gear on my Touring Bike (Why? Superior and comfy gear for long riding. I am stunned that more people haven't figured this out. However, a lot of riders here in the south sport no gear ea. bandana, t-shirt and jeans only. Don't be one of these guys!) and replace my helmet soon. Beer recommendation is Schoefferhofer Hefeweizen from Germany. I get lucky and find it every so often in a store with a good selection. Good review.
I've got the same helmet and love it! I get no buffering with the visor, but I've installed the Swegotech forkshield deflector. I removed the chin guard and find it is much easier to take on and off. I'm most impressed with how well it vents! I would not hesitate to recommend this helmet!
@@Acontractuallife Sorry just saw this. For over a year. Just reach out to them and ask, they'll give you instruction. They'll want you to show proof.
@@infotechsailor Just reach out to them and ask, they'll give you instruction. They'll want you to show proof. It's usually a one-time-use code. I've gotten all my Klim gear that way, and I'll be using it for future gear (helmet probably this year too).
You do have to worry about the D-lock coming undone as I’ve seen the test and it gives way before the strap . But the double d ring the strap gives way before the double d.
Another Arai lover here. I'm a Klim fan since 2011 (It's wierder if you keep in mind I'm from Argentina). Thanks to Santa, who kindly brought me a nice pair of Outlanders GTX last year, I wear Klim gear from top to toe, ish... I'm still reluctant to switch to a Krios helmet. Indeed, last week I got a VIP discount, (Did I say I'm a Klim fan?) I was going to buy a helmet but due to covid, lots of gear is out of stock. I ended buying a stow away jacket and a couple of hats. Well, keep those beers running! And shooting great videos! Btw, following you on IG as @diega666
Uvex makes it for Klim. Build quality is good but not top tier. But ask top tier price because of the brand name. But it is super light. And a improvement over the orginal krios with ventilation.
Want to love this helmet. Safety ratings, check. Looks, check. Light weight, check. How about fit, fitment and materials quality compared with Arai and Shoei’s long history of quality?
I’d like to know who makes this helmet and where, for $700 price point I’d be more comfortable sticking with a known manufacturer such as Shoei or Arai
That is difficult to answer question. Because “made” is the Helmet in China. The brand behind it is a EU Gear manufacturing and sales company called Louis. They have a helmet sub company called Nishua, and that is the actual “maker”. But beside Peak, Visor and Shell it is also a Klim design. It is a bit the same with the Touratech Helmet which is made by NEXX but by any means way better then the NEXX Helmets.
I have one of these, but I haven’t had it that long. I don’t find the helmet very breathable but I haven’t owned a full face helmet for quite a few years. It doesn’t have good accommodation for speakers. There is also insufficient room for sunglasses. I love the fidlock. I get no vibration from the visor. It is quiet as long as the wind is coming straight at you. If you have a crosswind, it is fairly noisy.
I have the same helmet and I love it. I just added the same Cardo Bold com unit that you have on your helmet. I am having trouble with speaker placement. Do you have any trouble with yours? Great review!
This is a $800 helmet after taxes. You would expect perfection in all aspects and it's almost there BUT the visor will NOT stay where you place it. Open it up a few notches for extra air, first little dip or bump in the road and SLAM down it comes! I love everything about this helmet except the hinge plates. They are very cheaply made. It makes me wonder if anyone that actually rides tests them?? It is a $800 helmet WT Actual F?!
The highly engineered closed cell foam in motorcycle helmets is good for 2 years, or maybe 3 before it becomes so hard that the energy absorption is essentially useless. You can't tell that unless you crash in it. So helmet prices have gone totally insane UNLESS they provide foam liner renewal services. All the decent helmets say in the fine print that the life expectancy is not over 3 years. And how long the helmet sat on the store shelves matters too. Buyer beware. No matter how fancy or expensive the helmet is, the same rules apply. Also, NEVER keep your gloves in the helmet. Any hydrocarbon fumes (like if you gas up with gloves on) are an early death to the foam. It will harden way faster if exposed to fuel vapors. I received this information from a seminar put on by Arai for our Ducati club. Very curious why no Snell... probably the strap retention.
What size? A medium XD4 is only 4oz heavier. My biggest complaint about the Krios is only making 2 shell sizes. I get they did it to keep costs down, but if you aren't a medium or 3XL you look like a bobblehead. The fit is just never really there unless you happen to be their 'perfect' size. I have a few other complaints about the helmet (the d-lock being the biggest) but otherwise if you fit that head shape and you're a medium or 3XL it's probably a great choice. Also check out Chin Mounts, they make a 3D printed mount for the Krios, I have one on my XD4 and it works wonderfully.
You didnt mention when u take off the visor it is very painful attach again with true working position, setup is hard and other thing is it is loud helmet because it is so lightweight and thin material but it is not big deal with earplugs and speaker...generally ı like my helmet very much ı advise everbody such a lightweight helmet..and it is very comfy inside..if we compare other helmet like shoie and arai they are heavy like stone ,dont carry stone over your neck if you pay so much money....klim krios pro is perfect choise instead of some cons....
This is the second review that had a vibration appear from the peak. One thing I want to ask is it made in China. All the Klim gear I went to buy had tags on it made in China. There is no way I will buy a helmet made there. Can you let me know. I am happy to buy from the US Japan or Europe.
I think I will buy one when I can afford it. I would like to hear from anyone who has used this on the highway at night, are there any issues with light refracting or any distortion at all?
I recently found your page, you put together some really great stuff! Much appreciated. I've been researching the Krios Pro and would like to hear your take on the noise level for high speed use. Some say you MUST wear earplugs at speed, I've heard some say you can't hear the intercom at speed, some say it is fine without plugs. What are your thoughts? Is it really that loud? I wear earplugs regardless for long pavement pounding but would enjoy not feeling like I'll get head ringing if I don't wear plugs for shorter highway rides, are we talking a must or does if have decent noise suppression?
+ftwayneaustin So there is a trade off for breathablity and quiet. I feel like it’s plenty quiet for how well it breathes. Way more that the Arai xd4. I don’t wear earplugs on short trips around town or on the trail, but on pavement I do. I can hear my packtalk bold intercom VERY well, and if I’m not wearing earplugs I can’t even come close to turning it up all the way. All in all with a quality set of Moto earplugs like from www.earpeace.com/ you’ll be just fine
@@backcountryadvmoto Awesome, that pretty much answers it for me, looks like I'll be finally upgrading to a respectable helmet. I also use Earpeace plugs, perfect for what they offer. And they even think of you for when you lose one! How cool. I'll be ordering some gear from you for helping us out with honest answers. Much appreciated.
Thanks. Great review. As always, informative and helpful and honest! What speakers do you use inside the helmet? For comms only or for music as well? Are they loud enough? And how / where do you charge the speakers?
I got them Kim f3 carbon that I use with goggles for my supermoto but was looking at getting one of these for less wind noise for like a cardo, how well can you hear and how's the wind noise?
My plastic DOT O'Neil for 119.95 weighs 3lb 7oz. I have CKX Mission/Titan, Klim f5K, Bell M10, 509 Altitude Carb. Leatte 9.5 and Scorpion as well. Just sayin these things are ridiculously overpriced for "lightweight"
Im on my Second pair of Sidi AdV Boots. Owned the Sidi Adventures for 5 years and completely wore them out. Beat the snot out of them with now issues. Bought the Sidi Adventure 2s Last year and freaking love them. Very comfortable., lots of protection, and easy to walk in.
Backcountry Adventure Motorsports thanks. I took a low speed spill on my Super 10 last weekend and was lucky to walk away with just a sprained ankle. In a support boot for 2 weeks. Riding boots are getting order this week. Thank you again.
@@backcountryadvmoto And they don't squeak like the old one's used to until you sprayed them with WD 40!!! Love Sidi boots! I bought my first pair in 1974!! I must be getting old but still my #1 brand! Cheers
All great points. Major CON. The visor attachment engineering. The ratchet nubs wear down over mths of use. It fails and starts flopping in the wind. Mine lasted 1 summer. Warranty gave me a new visor. Failed in a mth. Sold it. Junk based on that and the price. Klim ...stick to the gear.
+Silvers Ss I know some have had that problem, but I have not had that issue. I’ve got 18mo on mine with thousands of miles and haven’t had that issue. My only con that I can think of that’s consistent is the visor will buzz sometimes depending on the wind buffering
Hey, I was trying to give this video a thumbs up, but missed and hit the dislike button… I got it right eventually, but RU-vid flashed a message that you’d get that thumbs-down feedback! I just wanted to say that feedback is bogus if it arrives! This is a really cool video and thanks for posting because it’s a big purchase and you’ve shared a lot that I was wanting to know. Thank you!
What about how easy is it to remove the padding and wash it? I already have a pretty good idea since I run the klim f5 koroyd for dirt biking but might be nice for others. F5 is the best helmet I’ve ever owned and I’ve been wanting this Krios for road/dual sport. Maybe its time to move my Suomy to backup status.
@@gatisspetersonss indeed, the extra 2 oz would probably make you fall over the front of your bike.... Are you for real? And if you are talking about transition lenses in your glasses, they don't work if you have a clear shield down in front of you. Because the UVB rays are blocked.
+Bizzobb Foshizzle it works just fine, I just rather use the stick on than the clip on. I’m not a fan of separating the liner from the shell. I’m sure it’s fine, just like to use the other option instead
Good review! The vibration of the visor would irritate the crap out of me, to the point of anger. I’d probably take it off when getting on the freeway; especially where I live. If you’re not going at least 80 you’re going to get run over in this city.
This is an older video of mine. The klim is a great helmet, but I just picked up the Nexx x.WRL it’s a premium helmet that is even lighter thanks the klim and I think a better quality I’d I’m being honest
Thanks for sharing! What's your Krios size compared to the xd4? According to each size chart, I'd be an MD in xd4 and LG in Krios (58cm). However, I read that people have gone down a size from xd4 to Krios. Any thoughts? I need to replace my arai signet-x, MD size, which has a long oval shape...It gets too steamy when working off the pavement and the black electrical tape on the face shield isn't the best for blocking the sun and tree branches :-)
Great review of Klim Krios Pro. I have the same helmet and color scheme. Looks like a GoPro oval mount on the right side of helmet. No issues holding up your GoPro? Thanks for video.
Hey, this is a great review! Thanks a lot! I have one question: how does it fit compared with other helmets regarding its size? I have a larger head (about 62 cm/24,41 inch) and many other helmets with sizes of 3XL don't fit.
Have you ever owned the Arai XD4? This seems to be a major contender to the Arai XD4 and the shoei hornet. I bought the XD4 because I was actually able to try it on and liked it over the shoei. I couldn’t justify paying $700+ for something I couldn’t try on. I’m from a rural area with not many options for this kind of stuff. If you have had the Arai, which one did you like better?
Yes, I owned all three helmets when I first received this one. The Shoei is for sure quieter than the Klim, and the XD4 is a great helmet, but extremely loud on the highway. This helmet is lighter than both of them, and right in the middle of the two when it comes to noise. At least on my bike.
very interested in this helmet...many have said the visor causes strange shadows on transitions visor...did you notice this? Does the pinlock work well? Does the pinlock cause distortion at night?...do you leave it in? In your excellent utah bdr video you were in the low 30s and had something over your face inside this helmet???...was that really needed at that temp? I have ridden in low 30s and even 20s in bell and shoei and my face/head was always ok with just a balaclava up to my lower lip.
+Mo Re if you leave the visor up for a few minutes, it does get a shadow from the transition lens, but it only last a few seconds. The pin lock works great and I normally always leave it in, cleaned the helmet and pulled it out for the video. I don’t have any issues with it at night. As far as the thing over my face, it was just a very thin face cover. It’s actually for summer time dust but works well. The reason I wear that when it’s cold and rainy is mainly because I’m working hard on the bike and sweating my face/head gets sweaty then cold when I’m going faster after the technical sections.
I love mine . Did remove the visor as I haven't had a chance to go offroad yet and knowing me I would bonk it somehow before getting it dinged legitimately on the trail .
All the hard angles on the Klims are good for catching pavement and snapping your neck in a slide. I'll stick with my Arai XD4. More round and no hard edges. I enjoy Hamm's, PBR, Schlitz and Old M. All my designer beer buddies laugh at me...until they find out a dirty 30 is only $12 and they pay $10 for a 6 pack. I'm old though and have hit fuckit. Youth and exuberence has nothing over age and treachery.
Thanks for the review. I've been trying to find out whether this helmet can take intercom speakers. Yours is the first review that I've seen that addresses that point. Thanks.
Thanks. I ended up getting the same helmet. It’s great so far. I also got the packtalk bold. Couldn’t tell from your video if you used the clip or the adhesive. Kind of having trouble getting the clip up in there but I was kind of leaning towards using the adhesive anyway.
Most excellent and thorough review. May be I missed it but did you mention how it works with goggles? Can you still shut the windshield with goggles on? Thank you for your great vids.
