I still have the Altec Lansing MX 5021 from 2006. Good sound for a small room and has been reliable all these years.

Klipsch changed parts, I bought a pair for a friend five years ago and his set never humed, the bass weights more and sound much better than the set I got a few months ago.

these speakers seem to get worse each time they change them. The originals were the best before the company was sold and took a turn for cheaper internals. They recommend to keep them on all the time so the amp gets hot and burns out. Their amps run hot. Thank you for this video it was my deciding factor after my second set woofer blow out. The previous versions are good for the money but will eventually blowout in the woofer. Both of mine failed same way.

The originals were the best computer speakers ever made. Unfortunately over time the control module degraded. I've bought many speakers since, nothing came close to the originals. Shook my house.

The pre-amp module can be moved from one side to the other. It pushes in without the need for tools. The satellite speakers are 18 wpc rms The sub is 65 watts rms. The power draw at idle is 10.1 watts. If you insist on turning the speakers off, get a smart strip. Then when the computer (or whatever source you use, TV etc) goes off then the speakers turn off. The hum could be in your system. Have you contacted Klipsch tech support? The Promedia 2.1 THX on my computer is dead silent.
@THEUrinalCake
@THEUrinalCake 2 года назад
I've gone through 3 sets over the years. Promedia's have always had the buzz/hum. I suspect the wire shielding is poop and if you run them on a desk anywhere near other power wires they do this. If you let the 3.5mm cable touch another wire you'll really hear it.
@carewser

I definitely understand about the "LEAVE IT ON" part, but I power all down at the surge protector / power strip because a lot of items use energy even when off. The hum / hiss. That's likely due to the light you have on or even the video monitor. It was odd when you plugged in the headphones and it went away. Perhaps, grounding issue / poor design is the cause. I could tell it did sound good. Perhaps could have had a little more low end. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU. You helped me make up my mind, AND OF ALL THESE VIDEOS, it seems you were being honest and the others were avoiding the truth. And in most cases didn't even give any sound to hear at all. And the sound IS the goal. That "leave it on" thing says a very resounding NO, for me. As does the hiss and the ALMOST THERE low end (which could be what I am listening through). What can ya expect at that price point? It still may be fine for some, but the older I get the pickier I am. I would be going back to the store too. I might even share a few "wrinkled forehead" expressions with Klipsch. It's bad enough (like most others) that their products are made in CHINA.

My subwoofer has like a noticeable 60hz drone all the time, even with audio playing over it... It does go away after about 3 seconds of no audio input... But then has a very faint "heartbeat" from the sub. Running Bluetooth only. I picked these up refurbished. I won't get them again, because even if the refurb is causing problems, no on/off switch and hearing people going through several pairs all the time is worrying.

you've got a defective pair, i've had the promedia's for years and there's no hum so you were unlucky as i've also got the Logitech Z623's because they both have extremely high ratings You should have returned these and then reviewed the replacement set

I've had the Logitech Z623 in the past but never owned the Klipsch 2.1's before. Which system do you think offers deeper bass? I know the logitechs subwoofer is rated for 130w RMS, and Klipsch is only 65 (so half of the logitechs) but which one do you prefer? I'm not necessarily asking which subwoofer is louder, but which is clearer/handles low frequencies better? Which do you recommend

abit late , i've had these pm 2.1 bt speakers since 2018 august. replace them 3 times on 1 to 1 exchange policies all within 7 days since purchase. ALL the sets i've changed had hums when plug into the 3.5mm jack from various devices like my imac , macbook pro , astell&kern with chord amplifier . the store doesnt do a refund policy so i am stucked with it till now and just relying on the bluetooth function and gave up on the 3.5mm audio connection. when using bt , sometimes there are intermittent loud distortion when i drag videos files or even youtube videos. its annoying. please do not buy it if anyone are still considering these set.

I've owned Klipsch La Scala, Klipschorns, RF-83, CF-4 and more recently the RP-600M and the Promedia 2.1 THX. Not bragging, just trying to make the point that I know what good quality music should sound like. The sound of these Promedia is phenomenal. The fact that they cost $130 is just icing on the cake. They won't fill an auditorium with sound but they will give you an amazing chest thump if that's what you dial in with the sub. The speakers are great but the 6.5" driver in that sub is no joke. It's matched perfectly with the satellites. They have a huge exciting sound, not thin and boring like the majority of computer speakers. Most audiophiles buy speakers because of the sound, they make us feel something. The PM does that which is unheard of in this price range. I suggest you pick up a set from Amazon (and I think Walmart dot com, Costco) and try them. Send them back within the 30 day window if you don't like them. See how they sound with YOUR ears on YOUR computer/or TV in YOUR listening environment. Don't take my word for it, decide for yourself.

Between the two versions, the THX original wired only version is the real winner. The new bluetooth version is not THX certified, has an annoying hum and does not have the same sound quality as the original. You can find the THX version used around 60-80. Sometimes they go on sale brand new retail for 80 or so. Just get those. Saving 20-30 dollars for the BT ones are a waste of time. Buyer beware has always been true since the days of old. The buyer needs to proceed with caution even more so in modern times because of complicated electronic market.

Years ago, Klipsch was a reputable product, you spent a little more because you were paying for better internal components. Because they are wanting to compete with other manufacturers, they had to drop their prices, to do that, they sacrificed quality. Sending the manufacturing to china didn't help either. The name doesn't really mean anything anymore, and in my opinion, it's just a matter of time before they close shop, it's just gonna take a little more time for the majority of consumers to agree to look elsewhere.

Great, so you spend the majority of this video praising the speaker system's audio quality only to trash the audio "hum" in the end. Not to mention ya tell the viewers NOT to buy this system but make no mention of what system is better. Seems a bit suspect. Moving on. The instructions say to plug the power directly into the wall outlet. You plugged into a what could be deemed as a just a standard power strip. Maybe the hum is coming from the power strip? Ya also used the "audio out" from the TV, which could have also caused the hum and beeping you mentioned. You tell us the hum is gone when the headphones are plugged in. So why not hold that mic up the the headphones so we can hear for ourselves if the hum is really gone? And who really cares if they didn't use the "Gold Look" material on the speaker cones? If they did, this would be a $400.00 package. And $300 for Pioneer DJ headphones? Sennheiser's at half the price might have served ya better. On credibility I give this review 1 Star.
