My experience with the Klipsch RP600M stand mount speaker. Not a review as everyone has reviewed it already.
I used the IOTAVX, PS audio Sprout 100 and Atoll IN30 to evaluate these speakers and eventually used the Modwright LS100+Moonw5.3 as well as the Classe CP800 MK2 and CA2100 combo.
Very dynamic speaker and originally I really like these speakers. I actually regret selling them but hopefully I can get my hands on the Klipsch RP8000F.

I've had these speakers for more than two years and decided to revisit this video. With the price of the Klipsch RP-600M going up, I've been considering selling these and using the money for something next level (thinking Wharfedale LINTON Heritage). But here is the deal, they just seem to get better over time. I'll listen to these with something new and the speakers catch me by surprise just how good they are. Other times I'm in the kitchen and just playing background music from my living room...and the RP-600M will will make me pay attention to the sound coming from them. I think the RP-600Ms are the type of speakers that once you own them, you will regret selling them because somewhere down the road you will want to listen to them again. They're just too unique that even if they no longer become a primary speakers, I'll have a nice place for them in my closet so I can revisit them from time to time.

Your comparison of the Klipsch with a big variety of gear is an amazing element of this review. It helps so much to learn how this speaker interacts with different front ends. This is a time-consuming process for you, and your effort and the results make for an impressive and informative review. Thank you.

i was never a klipsch person but after reviewing and listening to them on utube ,i brought them on sale on a 3 month payment plan(crutchfield). a lot of reviews complain about the bass which i don't understand because I'm running them off a 3 year old $130. Yamaha 2 channel receiver(100 wpc) and these speakers sound better and better each time i play them . they have adequate good natural bass which surprises me on some tracks. bottom line these speakers will play what you supply to them.they are awesome .so glad i got them -simply Love them ! p.s. for me its the mids that come in a little muffled on some tracks but I'm investing in an eq by schitts to fix that small issue.

Good review! I own a pair of Klipschorns (used: circa 1978), but I still listen to my little Klipsch RPs. They are just slightly sweeter sounding with their Tractrix horns - though less dynamic all other things being equal. Yet, with more power (Emotiva 150-watt amp) the RPs actually hold their own against the Khorns (which I push using an old Adcom 60-watt amp). But speaker placement matters a lot. I place the RPs right on top of the Klipschorns back into the corners of the room with a bass trap right behind each one. This creates midrange bloom without any bloat or lobing in the bass. Anyone who thinks the RPs sound small should try this.

The rp600m make good surround or height speakers, the rp280f make good room filling speakers. The two sets together have such a huge soundstage it's amazing. Explosions are believable, powerful, impactful and well controlled. Klipsch has done as amazing job with their copper woofers as they have with their horns.

I had a similar experience with the Klipsch RB-61 II's. I bought them new, and wasn't crazy about the way they sounded out of the box. After about 20-30 hours of break-in, they sounded much smoother and more natural, while keeping their dynamics. It's true that you can't have a speaker with everything, unless spending big money. That's why I run 2 sets of speakers together, in my 2 channel system. Get a set of dynamic, bright, energetic speakers, and combine them with a pair of more refined, laid-back speakers. They'll blow away speakers costing 5-6x as much as both pairs together. I've gotten great results with Klipsch combined with Phase Technology, driven by a good Class A or A/B amp. I use Adcom, because the bang for the buck is amazing.

Said you want to try the RP8000F, but get the RP-280F, second hand or something, got the same sound tbh, nothing really changed with the sound signature when I listened and compared them (looks change a little bit on the new model), but what I noticed is that the low end on the older RP-280F is a little bit better, with more control than the new RP-8000F, both pairs of speakers had a lot of break-in to them. Yeah...kind of strange... Good video. Subscribed to your channel ! 🥳

@@ThomasAndStereoyes, both sound very very similar. The older model wins by a very little margin in my case. The drawback I think with the towers vs RP600m , is that the 2x woofers dip down to 2.9 ohms - 80-100hz area ( 2 x 8ohm woofers in parallel) , so they would sound "thin" on cheaper and low power amplifiers/integrated...

Makes a lot of sense. I own a pair of bookshelves (about $850 a pair so good but not top tier) that sound OK with midfi integrateds. But, years ago I had the opportunity to audition this model with a HiEnd $20k high power integrated, WOW, didn't sound like the same speaker but like a pair four times their price. I had heard they liked power, but this was eye-opening. So, although I can't afford that, I do now power them with a used midfi power amp of 350 watts x 2 at 4 ohms. And they now do Bass much much better! Whereas before there was not much low end. Some speakers scale phenomenally well!

Hello Thomas. I recently auditioned the Klipsch RP-8000F and I immediately fell in love. They are so dynamic it's crazy. Crisp clear highs. The vocals are very very good. Like the singer stood in front of me. Allan Taylor - Colour to the moon Lady Gaga - I'll Never Love Again I auditioned this two songs and it was so good I had them on repeat for like 5x each. Crazy speakers for the money. I will buy a 5.2 system from Klipsch. 8000F 504C 500M SPL 120 x2 I hope you can get your hands on the 8000F.

Heard these at RMAF. Take note that all the reviewers say they are a "fun" speaker -- whatever that means. I guess that's because of the dynamics. None of the reviewers saying anything about great detail and clarity. I found these to be disappointing in detail and clarity. I also listened to the Elac Debut Reference Monitor -- which will be released in November. They have great detail, clarity, midrange, and sound stage. I liked them much better, and they're essentially the same price. I must also say that I had a pair of the original Elac Debut B6s, and I IMHO the new Reference Monitors are a much better speaker than the original B6, and much better than the RP600M. Everyone has different tastes. I'm just saying you'd be wise to check out the new Elac before committing to the Klipsch. Try them both and then decide. It's worth the effort.
@ThomasAndStereo

I completely see where you are coming from. That is why in the video where I made what speaker to buy, I categorized speakers. What you are looking for is great detail and clarity. That is why I mentioned usually speakers like KEF LS50 stands out in details. If you are looking for that, go for speakers like B&W, focal (a lot more expensive) and so forth. What the RP600M is good at is dynamics and I think people will only really appreciate it when they can do an AB test. It's really easy to pick up detail as I mentioned in the video but not easy when it comes to dynamic. Having said that, I always encourage people to go listen. But don't go listen blind. Understand what excels in each speaker and go listen for that and see how important it is for them. We are all different and we value different things. That was also my message in my closing remark.

The music in the background! "You Say", by Lauren Daigle! I thought I was imagining it (or hearing Adele, wonder of wonders), but nope...that's what it was! Good song. Performed it many times, but haven't listened to it on my system. Guess I'll have to revisit it. Anyway, good song. Glad I'm not the only one who's heard it. Keep up the great work, my friend! I just finished an initial listening session with some RP-500Ms (which should be virtually identical to the 600s, since my system has a pair of SVS SB-2000s to fill out the low end), and I have to say that they are WAY better than I imagined. I'm thoroughly in love with my ELAC Uni-Fi UB5s (and my Debut B6.2s), but am shocked by how non-annoying, non-harsh, non-horn-y they sound. REALLY impressed. There juuuuuust might be something to all these rave reviews...

I bought a pair of RP600M's to see what's all the hype is about. I'm a headphones guy and I never considered spending more than $200 on speakers for music listening. But I was blown away. I've found the sound signature that I was chasing in these speakers. After 4 days, I returned them and bought a pair of RP8000F's ($960 open box a with a few scratches; nothing a black sharpie can't handle). The RP600M slice was soo good, that I got greedy and went for the whole cake! I also bought a Yamaha A-S501 which is more than enough to drive them. This purchase put a dent on my finances, but months later and still no remorse. I have a bunch of DACs, but I mainly the CMA400i.

A great review. Having owned a pair of these since they first came out, agree that a good amp, particularly a class AB that has a lot of band width, makes these come alive. I did however retask these to the rear channels of my surround system. I run the rp 280 fronts and rp 504 center. Together they make a great sound environment for live music and of course action movies. The rp 280 is a pretty good stereo tower with much more dynamic response and a lot more bass than the 600. They are also far less picky on the amp used that the bookshelf 600. Rarely do I use a subwoofer for that setup. Given that, still wasn't fully satisfied, so when for their top of line center RC 64 III and RF-7 fronts. If you are thinking about the rp 8000, I must encourage you to go for the RF-7 towers which have dual 10 inch drivers and a much larger horn driver (1.75" vs 1" in the 8000). The RF-7 cost a lot more, but a significant jump in performance. Keep in mind that the RP and RF series are designed primarily for superb theatrical playback, not dedicated stereo; however, based on the the sound quality that you explain you enjoy, I feel that you will absolutely love the RF-7. Get the series 2 or newer series 3. Slight difference, but both far better than the much older series 1. (Eventually you will be compelled to get the Cornwalls, but that is another episode) :)
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 года назад
Taz, good to hear from you again. So you find the RP280 better as you are using it for front. I don't know much about klipsch speakers so I will definitely pay attention to that model. Hmm... RF-7, ok, let me read up on it. I can get review samples from Klipsch and actually was debating what to ask for. For me the RP600M has the new klipsch sound. Is the RF7 an older design or newer? Maybe I should ask for the cornwalls instead !
@CUDAbuster
@CUDAbuster 4 года назад
@@ThomasAndStereo Thomas, the RF-7 are the Klipsch premier reference tower speakers. They have been made for several years and they are now on the version 3. I think Youthman did a comparison on the three generations. For me, I love those speakers, but I find them at their best in the movie soundtrack role and live music reproduction. If you can space them wide and run their top of the line center channel, the RC 64, then the 3 speaker stereo sound is absolutely incredible. The towers by themselves do a decent job yielding mid-range, but they are fantastic in dynamic highs and lows. The center channel brings out the vocals in a way that must be experienced to be appreciated. I used to be a L R channel only guy, but a three pieces setup with those is spectacular. Now, on the other hand, the Cornwalls are a true full range speaker very suitable for stereo listening and have excellent dynamics in the mid-range as well as highs and lows. They are pretty big, but tuck in nice against a wall and don't really take up much floor space. Cornwalls have been around for decades and are currently on the 4th edition. I have the Gen 3 version of them. If I had to live with on one pair of speaker and no subwoofer, I would choose the Cornwalls. The efficiency is very high also. They can easily fill a large room with great sound but I also listen them in a small room and are fun to there too. Hope you can try these out on some of your amps. I think you have higher end amps than I have owned, so I'm expecting that they will be even more impressive. Definitely a good candidate for a tube amp.

Thomas, so thanks for your video. I have Klipsch Heresey and they are three way horn loaded with a 12" woofer. The horns will deafen you at 2 watts power but the woofers take a bit of power to drive they are therefore not that well balanced it seems. My Hereseys are not bi-wired which I can't figure out why Klipsch would not do this in a $3000 pair of speakers. When the caps eventually die I will have them b-wired so I can pump more power to the woofer. Anyway sorry for the digression but I really was not aware that a break in period could help. I just ordered a pair of RP600M to replace a pair of KG1.5. So I will let them break in for a while before passing judgment on them. I was concerned they would be too bright like the Heresey speakers but maybe not.

I had a pair of K Horns at one point and fed them with a 10 watt class A amp I designed using WE 300B's.. I liked them very much but just too much for our living room, 27' x 24'.. They would have been magnificent in a room about twice that size. Next were the LaScala's and pretty much the same but a lot less bass. Then the Hersey's and WOW !! I modded them to include an extra internal wall to stiffen them up, dampened the horns with a special epoxy and improved the crossovers and very nice now..I also have a pair of Lother speakers I designed and they are magical but don't do complex pieces like the Klipsch. Some people don't like Klipsch but there are so many factors to consider. Tube amps are particularly good with Klipsch but Class A solid state amps work very well too. As you said, no speaker is perfect and that is very true but you can spend a lot of time and money trying to find what you think you like, only to wonder, can I get something better. I am done with all of that now. I like to listen to vinyl, I do have a decent CD player which I plan to do some mods to. I also have a decent Nak Cassette player which is great when I just want to listen for a longer period of time and not be getting up every 20 minutes to deal with the disk. Especially when my wife and I are spending the evening listening to music and snuggling on the couch. LOL So, I have the Hersey's and Lowther cabinets a few feet apart from each other. If I am listening to something soft and not too complex, the LOwthers are great. Big orchestra or Rock, the Klipsch are super. I am new to your chanel and enjoying it as you experiment with so many different options. However, REMEMBER one thing I was told years ago. It's about Enjoying the Music first. Isn't it funny when most of us audiophiles are driving down the road listening to our stock car radio and really get into the music but when were home we are too critical to be still and enjoy the music..LOL.. I wish I had a dollar for every tweak I have done and plan to do, to squeeze just a little more out of our systems.

That was a very entertaining & direct review, Thomas. I do like your style. Now... here is a challenge for you ! What about testing the Stereo Performance of AVRs ? Maybe millions of people use AVRs as their Stereo AMPs and not aware of what they are losing. Tried on lot's of forums, facebook pages but... No, people simply seem not to understand. No High-End AVR can keep up with a decent Mid-Level Stereo AMP when it comes to 2ch Stereo Music, that's it. End of argument... but how about the ones that can keep up ? Are there any AVRs that can keep up or come close to the Stereo AMP in performance, detail, clarity, timing, imaging etc..? - The funny thing is No one, simply no one even tried to compare the Stereo performance of AVRs yet. And I wonder why...?
@ThomasAndStereo
@ThomasAndStereo 4 года назад
Well I heard a few AVR and they are meh. I remember even hearing high end ones driving very expensive speakers and it was just ok. It sounds ok, don't get me wrong, the higher end models, but to divide their power into 7 channels, the design has to be compromised. Now, there are the seperates one where the premap AVR is a separate unit. Now I had one at one point paired with an EMOTIVA XPA5, I remember it was pretty decent. I think it might be an ARCAM. I have tried driving my Canton reference 3.2DC with my AVR pioneer. Now that is a $10k speakers. My $100 sony speaker sounded better against it with a good stereo amp but that is a long story. I even recorded a sound clip wanting to show people. I just need to find some time to do it.
