Klumpke's palsy or a lower brachial plexus injury

The lower trunk of the brachial plexus can be injured, but this is rare. It would help us describe and remember some of the anatomy of the brachial plexus though, and better understand it too.
Let's have a look at the anatomy of the brachial plexus, the roots that form the inferior trunk, the medial cord and the major nerves that form from it. Then we'll have a think about what muscles are innervated by these nerves and how this leads to the way the hand is held in Klumpke's paralysis, the weakness in the hand, and the areas of sensory loss.

I’m not a medical/anatomy student, but I love your channel. I found one of your videos when I was searching for an explanation of the anatomy of an area I had injured to better understand my injury. I keep watching now because I love the depth of explanation and the explanation style - detailed yet approachable. I have learned more about anatomy than I ever thought I would thanks to this channel!

Until now I was confused about the claw hand. Because fingers are innervated by ulnar and median nerves, which are meant to be paralysed and thus the fingers should not be able to flex in case of Klumpke palsy. But when you mentioned lumbricals muscle, I gathered information about this muscle and now my doubt is clear. Thanks to you, now I precisely understand the mechanism of lower brachial plexus paralysis.

I was told by a vascular surgeon from an MRA 18 months ago that I don’t have TOS but I have all the signs of the symptoms you’ve mentioned and have trouble pronating the forearm. Maybe they didn’t look at the *whole* nerve pathway. They didn’t care about anything other than TOS and trying as quick as possible to rule it out then cut me loose, and only even considered TOS due to closed up supraclavicular fossas. I feel like the pathway to and from the armpit is really relevant for me but nobody will look at them even physios. There’s real bulkiness around and under the armpits and tightness and weakness at the back of the shoulders in opposing muscles. For me the traps, triceps and lats are also just not functioning properly either but I know the repetitive movement that caused it.

Why is the bent elbow in klumpke's palsy? Is there any problem in tricep muscle?
@kimberlyduckworth9011
@kimberlyduckworth9011 2 года назад
For me the elbow and forearm are twisted and the joint is not the same as the unaffected arm. Yes, my tricep has been affected bit bicep is worse. I can lift maybe a lb on a good day.
