Just got through unboxing my new KLUTCH MIG 140Si for Christmas that my wife bought me..I am one happy camper right now..... Thanks for the walk around of yours....
I am using argon/carbon dioxide gas and it gives a very clean weld. I haven't touched my HF flux core welder since I bought this, except to move it around in the shop. Great welder for the price!
Looks like a good unit at a good price. I like the fact that you can add a spool gun and the spot welding timer is a nice feature to have also. I bought a MIG welder from Northern Tool a few years ago and I have no complaints about it. I think the brand on mine is Northern Industrial, they don't sell them anymore, it's just good for light gauge stuff up to 3/16" but works perfect for body work applications which is what I bought it for and the price was right. Happy Welding!
Good job with the video, excellent selection on the machine. I researched for a while to purchase one and this was my selection, basically for all the reasons you mention plus the fact that being "inverter powered", it is much more lighter and manageable than the conventional powered units. The inverter allows this unit to utilized a very small transformer, which is the heavier part of all welding machines. Happy welding all of you!!!
The inverter was something I found in the process too, but didn't know enough about it to mention it in the video. Thanks for stopping by the shop and thank you for your name and the blessing it carries for all who read it.
I just got a Klutch 140i great price at Northern Tool after shopping around, just starting out and WOW mig gas makes a great weld 👨🏻🏭 I made a cart running 🏃 on flux core, welded flux like a Lincoln I had which was great but burned sheet metal (century fc90) I was amazed with gas how clean and easy the welds were and how you don’t burn through generally, after buying gas bottle, wire, tips and welder I’m under $500 💥👨🏻🏭💥
just got my second Klutch 140SI. the 1st one being a total defective bust. refused to weld longer than 3/4-1 inch bead. super slow wire feed. any way one phone call and the customer service shipped me another one the next day and a return label. i must say i am very impressed with this second unit. it lays down nice beads consistently. my flux core welds never looked so good. i'm sure if i ever use gas then the results be that much better. also i like the fact that ships with knurled feed rollers. and the spot welding feature is awesome.if this welder had the digital readout for wire speed and voltage it would be a hit. i hope it will last.
Thanks George I have a 110 volt Hobart Toolmate flux core welder I got for 250$ at TSC, it welds good I got it about 3/4 of a year ago and I've had no issue with it but I have been wanting a gas welder because I do body work on fenders and my Toolmate burns the thin steel so I needed a welder that can handle thinner steel and I saw they are on northern tool for 379$ with free shipping so I might pick my self up one!
You will never want to use flux core again after having a MIG welder. I dreamed of this for a long time and almost didn't get it because the price kept dropping on my Gadget Bike and deals kept falling through. It was worth the wait for sure. No splatter, no mess, just nice clean welds, even for me.
yes George great review I have two harbor freight welders the Mig 90 same as yours and an Arc 70 stick welder but I do have a 250 amp arc welder. That's what I hate about the harbor freight model everything is too cheap and you don't have a spot timer and no control other than the speed of the wire coming out. That's a really nice unit you have there in that Klutch Mig welder. Thanks for the review
Thanks for the kind words. I used to have an old "coffin" Lincoln arc welder, actually, I have had a couple of them over the years, but the last one I traded for my air compressor while we were in PA still. In that time I had little need for a welder. That is what I learned to weld on back in the 70s.
i was looking at that welder earlier today as i was walking around Northern Tool. If i had seen that a few years ago, i would have bought it instead of the Lincoln 125 cause i'm limited to just flux core. and you get more stuff for less $$. great review!
Glad you liked the review, I have the HF flux core, but except for outside jobs or just plain messy stuff, I wouldn't go back at all. Thanks for stopping by.
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man Super Dave was A character that was created by A man named Bob Einstein. He was A comedian and writer that appeared on the John Byner Comedy Hour back in 1972. Super Dave also made many appearances on Johnny Carson's Tonight show. His shtick was A stunt man who was supposed to be A master of his craft but usually ended up getting flattened by car's, truck's, motorcycles and other item's of mayhem! Your voice is very close to Einsteins. You could be brother's. There may be videos of his act RU-vid.I haven't looked but they are pretty funny! Good luck with your welder. I am considering their 220si or the 250s. I like the 220si as it comes with the spool gun but the 250 weld's much thicker metal but has less portability and the spool gun adds 200 bucks to the price. Decisions, decisions!! To all you subscribers, sign up for Northern Tool's catalog's! They put out A great wish book and once you place A few order's you will get monthly flyer's with coupon's for up to 20 buck's off your order. I have A store 10 mile's from my house and go there at least once A week just to kill time and play with the stuff!! like A kid in A candy store for an old retired guy!! Take care!!
Good fair review ! Ive found in general that Northern Tools usually has overall better quality products compared to Harbor Freight of course thats a general statement and every item can be different often that is reflected due to a higher price tags as well
George you may want to corn-sitter putting a small light bulb inside that for when your not using it ,the moisture will coat your wire with rust causing it to bind up in the liner, other than that nice machine, good luck with it.
I will keep that in mind. Right now is not much of an issue as our weather is quite dry during the Summer months and so far no signs of rust at all. Thanks
No, I don't always have the voltage cranked up, it depends on what I am welding. Today I had it down to around #4 for welding some small tubing. I am still learning the best settings for each application. Thanks for taking a look, Jay.
My purpose in selling the Gadget Bike was to raise enough funds to purchase a decent welder. My son's help along the way was invaluable as he paid for the wire, new gloves, the gas tank and having it filled. He has been very generous in his helping me with things like this.
I was comparing welders that were locally available in similar price ranges. I purchased this one less than 15 miles from where I lived and even looking at similar models of other brands this one seemed to be the best bang for my bucks at the time. It is still working great! Thanks Mogman. BTW who makes the Vulcan? Is that a Menards brand?
@@Mogman150 I'm not sure that Vulcan was available at the time I bought this, but at any rate it would have been above my budget of $350 at the time. This one is doing the job admirably for me. Thanks
@@TheShadeTreeFixitMan I wasn't putting you down at all, just thought the Vulcan would be a better apples to apples comparison. 😊 Thanks for the review!
Do you know if the 140i has the same performance of the 140si? If it welds equivalently, are the additional features on the 140si worth the extra money
If you are planning on doing any aluminum welding, I would suggest using the si and it is ready to plug a spool gun into it. It has more control than the less expensive unit and the ground clamp is much more substantial. I would say that the upgrade is better for the long haul. That's just my opinion. The 140i is more comparable to a Harbor Freight unit. Thanks for stopping by.
@@chriszbodula1894 The only experience I have with Harbor Freight welders is the flux core welder that I had before upgrading to the MIG welder you see here. From looking at Harbor Freight advertisement, I would say they are similar. If you have both stores nearby, I would suggest going and looking at them in person to see the differences in quality. The actual welding should be about the same, I would expect. Thanks again for stopping by
I don't use HF wire in this welder, and having bought a HUGE roll when we got the machine it hasn't needed to be replaced at all yet. Still enjoying it immensely. Thanks for taking a look.
If you are really careful you could. You have heard of plastic welding, right? When I was a kid, we used to do plastic welding for our customizing on the models, but we did it with soldering guns... I hope to get back to the model cars again when the weather begins to cool down again. Thanks Tom
Yes, and I just created a playlist for you so you can see it from start to finish. The first video in the list is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3JjTkSEOLEU.html Enjoy! Thanks for stopping by.
Does ANYONE know how to weld or does EVERYONE just talk about their welder? We all know what they look like, how the controls work and how to setup. I want to know how well a machine works with someone that actually can use it.
I am not a professional welder by any stretch of the idea, but I can tell you that this MIG welder works amazingly better than my old HF flux core welder. I am still learning how to weld, sorry. Maybe you should check out my video on "No more BBs" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OexJCF0SNvk.html Enjoy! Thanks for stopping by
You said that your subscribers wanted you to do a review on your welder. 80% of your review is your handiwork on your Kart and very little in my opinion on the welder. Pat yourself on the back still curious about the welder as I virtually got nothing from watching this video.
I told all I knew about it at the time. It wasn't so much a review as a revelation of what was then "new" for me. Thanks for stopping by and sorry it didn't meet your expectations.
I'm sorry buddy you're not a welder any welder that says the look of his welds doesn't have to matter is not a welder any man that puts on a shity weld is not a welder
