This is how I remember Kmart, building design plus not big but the small just right size. I can see on the outside above the door where the current logo is I can tell where the previous Kmart logo was, see how the letters were bolt to the white background if this makes sense. Nice store inside & out. Thank you for sharing Wallie.

Those Pennsylvania shirts were a nightmare! They ordered WAY too much, I had my entire front wall set to them and then some. I think we ended up sending then all to a closing store before mine closed.

When I was a kid, that whole plaza was full of stores. This is where we all would shop until the super Wal Mart opened up the ways. There was a grocery store a Dunhams sports and a shoe store.

They also are selling their outlet stores to Liberty Tax services, an income tax preparation company.

I think it's cool that the M&V label scar is still there.

This has had 3 of the 4 signs. It was the original red/turquoise. Then, the sign it has now along with 3 red horizontal lines on either side (along with the curve as both were done in the early-90's), then the Big Kmart, and then back to the prior sign, sans the horizontal lines.

In the reading pa area the Kmart in shillington pa just came out and said there closing by December the shillington Kmart is the last remaining Kmart in Berks county

Wow being from New Castle, this Kmart is so sad..I remember shopping here when I was very young...my sister lost her shoes when she was a baby in this store, I spent lots of allowance money here and across the plaza was a grocery store (Rocky’s, then Giant Eagle-my first job and then Sparkle...)..so many memories at this store and plaza 😌🙁😢

That store had k cafe and 12 registers you can see on the floor the old register plug in

Ok, comment on appliances sign looking newer: they didn’t sell them until later after Sears and Kmart merged together. In both our Kmarts that are now gone and have been, our layaway Depts were always hidden back by bathrooms and baby area. It was always back there so that was nothing new.

I am guessing Tranform Holdco has not done much to tranform Kmart or Sears into a profitable retailer. I also read of massive layoffs in their corporate office as well.

PA has (had) a lot of Kmarts.

Boy the money I spent in that store over the yrs I'm really going to miss it loved way better than Wal-Mart.

It's strange how Kmart will remodel or update a small area of a store and then close the store. Like the pharmacy at this store. When the Kmart on Patton Ave in Asheville, NC remodeled the restrooms I thought great they are gonna start fixing up this old run down store. Closed up 6 months later during the Christmas holiday. It must be part of Evil Eddie's Evil plan to speed up bankruptcy. Probably stiffs the people who do the remodel work. What a POS

If you really wanna see a dead mall, head on over to the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, PA. And there is an abandoned Super K-Mart just up the road

I worked here not to long ago. I have great memories going here on Saturdays with my grandma as a kid. Believe it or not, that was one of the top Kmart's just a year ago. P.S. The door you asked Kayla to open just has shoes and store bags in there.

I so miss KMart Stores! You've encouraged my husband and me to see the closest ones nearest our home. We used to have four KMarts right near our home...all of them now closed. Some of these I shopped for as a kid in the 60's and the 70's. I also worked for KMart all through college. I stradled between KMart Stores in California and Illinois transferring between the two depending on school breaks.

So sad...Life as we knew it has ended.

I live one town away from here... I also remember the Big K facade... I’m quite sad as this used to be a wonderful place. That whole plaza you were in has had so many stores taken away and it’s a shame.

I can't believe they were even open with the floors that flooded. They should've closed so they could dry the store out. That was such a hazard given you could still walk where it was flooded because it wasn't blocked off.

I feel bad for the employees also. I have a friend whom put many many years into Sears and she is gonna get screwed out of her pension. Such a huge mistake for Sears to have purchased Kmart.....the begining of the swirling around the toilet bowl for both stores!

This K-Martin has gone downhill since Wal-Mart came around. The "updated" pharmacy is more a by product of New Castle than anything. If I remember correctly, the partition wall was NOT there because there used to be a fairly large Kmart cafe there before Little Ceaser's. Unfortunately, the entire plaza itself will probably be sold in a few years time. Also, where the hell did you put the button at!!!! Nice job on the vid though Wallie! Thanks.

I’ve been to every currently open Kmart in NE ohio, visited the old 1.4M SQ FT DC in Warren yesterday thats been vacant for a year. And been to a few in Michigan.

I'm really surprised that New Castle K-Mart stayed open longer than Hermitage and Warren did.

It's seriously depressing to see Kmart today compared to fourish years ago when mine was still open, or even 10 yrs ago. I went into the nonclosing BigK Loveland Colorado last weekend, and it was very limited in electronics. Fortunately not slated yet, but I worry that it will be; also, the layaway section there is also hidden in the back.

I truly miss Kmart the more and more I see videos like this. It was a bit archaic but still a nice Kmart. I think our Kmart in Manistee, MI must've been one of the only ones that didn't have those big round vents up in the ceiling, but instead we had square ones with those meshes covering it. I believe Ludington's was that way too before it closed in early 2000 when Meijer opened and it was converted into a Lowes. But our store was one of the best performing Kmarts in the company but I heard because the owners wanted so much for rent, they were forced to close. Too bad because it was still busy! Luckily, some of the awesome employees from there joined us over at our Meijer store so you can still enjoy the people you got to know and love. I really don't think Kmart as a company is going to last much longer at this rate. But you're absolutely right, Kmart was priced much higher than many other stores and therefor you generally only picked up what was really on sale or what you really needed. Sad sad sad.
