This video shows the knee arthroscopy performed on the left knee in an active basketball player. The patient has a tear of the medial meniscus involving the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus. This is treated with a partial medial meniscectomy. As stated in the video, the meniscus tear is in the white, or avascular, zone of the meniscus. As a result, an attempted repair of this medial meniscus tear is unlikely to heal and be unsuccessful. We preserve as much of the medial meniscus as we can, resecting only the torn tissue and debriding back the meniscal rim to a stable border. The patient will be weight-bearing as tolerated immediately postoperatively and will return to full exercise and activity by approximately 3 to 4 weeks postoperatively. The surgery is performed by Dr. Andrew Dold, MD.

Why not do the patial knee replacement? Seems like we.have not made much progress over the years with meniscus tears 😢

That because there’s barely any blood supply in the joint. People who have the means to pay cash can look into stem cell injections into the knees. It’s suppose to grow the matrix of the joint. The best thing one can do is secure the best, most qualified surgeon because there’s so many mediocre orthopedic doctors doing disgraceful work now. This surgeon did some really fine work here. He was not aggressive with the cleanup.

Hi. I'm male, 23. Was skiing, tore posterior horn of meniscus. Didn't feel much pain, forgot about it. Three months later couldn't bend the knee. Went for MRI. Showed the tear. Went to a good traumatologist from people I know. He said unfortunately, my tear is irreparable and without surgery the extent of tear will progress. Planned on surgery, got it 1 week before. Now I can walk and bend knee pain free!! Just in a week! Unfortunately, that tear itself greatly increases the risk of develop osteoarthritis in the cartilage :( I still try to read the literature to figure out how to delay or prevent it, because I love exercising in gym and walking, and both these things do add chance of the further damage. But no matter what, go get that surgery for better health

How long on average before this person begins developing arthritis?
@finalflash5152
@finalflash5152 7 месяцев назад
Depends upon the persons bone density and his/her lifestyle! Because Arthritis is s certain thing to worry about in the next 5 to 10 years post surgery where another surgery is required like total knee replacement.
