Knee Arthroscopy - Partial medial menisectomy for a tear of the meniscus 

This video shows the knee arthroscopy performed on the left knee in an active basketball player. The patient has a tear of the medial meniscus involving the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus. This is treated with a partial medial meniscectomy. As stated in the video, the meniscus tear is in the white, or avascular, zone of the meniscus. As a result, an attempted repair of this medial meniscus tear is unlikely to heal and be unsuccessful. We preserve as much of the medial meniscus as we can, resecting only the torn tissue and debriding back the meniscal rim to a stable border. The patient will be weight-bearing as tolerated immediately postoperatively and will return to full exercise and activity by approximately 3 to 4 weeks postoperatively.
