Thank you for your insight I like the way you explain and demonstrate the economy of motion. targeting non lethal body parts. But mostly your opening statements about trying to avoid the knife fight in the first place and walk away. Respect sir

Thank you for the kind words.We like to give the defender options of how far to take it. Not everyone has the mentality to prioritize lethal parts. But this same technique/concept shown has the capability to go lethal if need be. But again always try to avoid the physical by doing anything and everything possible.

Great instruction. Especially the message, “…run away…you never know how good the other person is, or how bad you’re gonna be that day.”

Always avoid any weapon confrontation if possible. But then again, why provoke the situation?

You also don't know who they are with. Just always safer to try and walk away

Love the idea of ensuring the person goes down before slicing and walking away as if it was a walk off home run. Always did irk me when I see people say cut here and done! Then they walk away like it is a guaranteed thing. Love the way he says to make sure and end with a push.

We all know sa baryo, “patay kung patay” is the name of the game. But since youtube mainly caters to the western audience where self defense laws when knives are involved includes some crazy regulation or way of proving justified cause, whatever that means, most defense instructors in the west (at least in youtube) focus on one hit then run tactics. Won’t happen in the Philippines, since usually people have resbak, always

I can see that the teacher and students at Legacy are well rounded. Not just focusing on one range, but training in all areas. Always learning and adapting, but also giving credit to where it came from. Kudos to you all.

Like Master Joseph said in his interview, they train all areas: Largo, Medio, Corto and the ground and all the different weapon configurations.

knowing your local self defense laws is an important aspect many neglect.

depends, i agree with tactical slahes to the fingers( to get rid of the Knife) but the human body can take an incredible amount of slashes before any effect is created, the thrust is more lethal, penetrating the knife wielding hand, vital organs and immediately more damaging to the motor functions of the body, and its even more worse when someone is under drug and willing to kill you, knife fights like this will almost never happen, but, if a crazy guy comes towards you slashing and willing to kill you, you either run ( best option always), or you do the most lethal options you can offer, which means be rdy to kill him, there is nothing in between, thats the biggest issue alot of knife enthusiasts will face when it comes to my life or his life...

You're adorable. this year makes 40 years FMA. And also security work. Walk away?? Person pulls a knife... They either know what it does to flesh or have no clue. Both are dangerous to your flesh suit. You turn to walk away they slash or stab you in the back. It happens. People are either vicious or stupid. You haven't lived till you've either been in a knife fight or almost been in one. Homeless person pulls out a rusty razor sharp linoleum knife. Starts yelling "I'm gonna cut your face!!!". Shuffling like maybe they've done this before. They run away when you dive in your car. Because they think you have a gun. You're covered in sweat. Heart in your throat. Your lady is just super pissed off that youre an hour late for dinner. Cops never showed when you called them because they honestly don't care. Or you're in a laundromat. Knife is in your face. You think it's a student doing something stupid. You snatch the knife out of their hand. Then realize your looking at a stranger not your student. Whose eyes just got real big as you started lecturing them holding their knife. Those are the stories I can tell. Walk away? You're adorable. If a knife is out then you magically got a drinking story with scars to show off or not

Appreciate your insights, did you have a traumatizing experiencing involving a knife altercation. If so, what happened?
@legacyfilipinomartialarts2872
@legacyfilipinomartialarts2872 2 года назад
Totally agree with your insights. We believe that everyone should train in situational awareness, verbal de-escalation and the physical aspect of self defense. Always try to use situational awareness and verbal de-escalation first and foremost. The physical is a last resort. Verbal de-escalation really is a skill set that many neglect and can take a long time for people to get good at.

I like to practice Taiji and Bagua swords out on my porch. If you want to be OG just practice double Taiji sword. Hardly anyone knows how to do it. Every time I practice Xingyi, I don't get the special Taiji electrical effect. Taiji increases the electrical conductivity of your body, which is what acupuncture aims to do.
