Over the years I have tried a variety of ways to shape and finish the handles of my knives. (If you can think of it I have probably tried it)
I have settled on hand finishing as you have more control over the amount of material you remove. It takes a little longer but the finished product is better.

You're incredibly generous with the amount you share, showing your processes. I have a nearly 16 yr old who wants to do this. He's put some wicked edges on old chefs carving knives but really wants to move into making bushcraft knives. We're looking enviously at the gear you have there, but one step at at time!

Hi Mike, I think it is a six inch wheel. Just right for the smaller knife. I have used a 10 inch wheel on the larger blades. It works ok but you have to be really careful. I think a 8 inch wheel diameter would be just ideal.
